(2022·广东广州一模)Last night I was driving from Harrisburg to Leesburg, a distance of about eighty miles. It was 1 and I was in a hurry. However, if anyone asked me how fast I was driving, I'd say I was not over speeding. Several times I got just behind a slow moving truck on a narrow road, and I was holding my fists(拳头) tightly with impatience.
At one point along an open highway, I 2 a crossroads with a traffic light. I was 3 on the road by now, but as I drove close to the light, it turned red and I braked to a stop. I looked left, right and behind me. Nothing. No cars, no suggestion of headlights, but there I sat, waiting for the light to 4 , the only human being for at least a mile in any 5 .
I started wondering why I 6 to run the light. I was not afraid of being fined, because there was obviously no policeman around, and there 7 would have been no danger in going through it.
Much later that night, after I met with a group of friends in Leesburg and climbed into bed near midnight, the 8 of why I'd stopped for that light came back to me. I think I stopped because it's part of an agreement we all have with each other. It is not only the law, but also it is an arrangement we have, and we trust each other to 9 it: We don't go through red lights. Like most of us, I am more likely to be stopped from doing something bad by the social convention(惯例) that dislikes it than by any law against it.
It's amazing that we ever trust each other to do the right thing, isn't it? And we do, too. Trust is our first preference.
I was so 10 of myself for stopping for the red light that night.

(2023·原创)You may have seen a video from the Beijing Wildlife Zoo. It shows a dog playing with big cats four to five times its size! Many people might wonder if this dog has a death wish, but it seems that the dog and the big cats are good friends. The dog was raised with the lion and tiger cubs(幼崽) in the zoo. If you think this is a bit too wild, just remember that cross species friendship has been common for centuries. People live with cats and dogs. Perhaps you even have a pet yourself.
At an animal sanctuary(避难所) in Santiago, Chile, a cat named Marina and a pig named Laura started a friendship after they both came here. As neither animal had mother, they were together when they met immediately.
One possible reason for these friendships is the environment of the zoo. Animals don't need to worry about food or marking their territory(领地) or looking for mates in the way an animal in the wild would. “All those activities take time and energy, and if these needs are not needed, the animals get bored,” Gordon Burghardt, a scientist at the University of Tennessee, the US, told The Atlantic magazine. “In this special situation, the animals' social needs may be higher than eating.”
