第二节(满分25分)
Paragraph 1 :
When the bell for the end of the school day rang, Bruce started his plan. Cold and hungry, Bruce wandered around, searching for nail bags carefully. In order to collect more money, the determined boy also picked up the bottles along the way. All the tiredness disappeared magically as every coin went to a tin, his secret “bank”. Each time he passed by, the appealing handbag in the shop would remind him what he did was worthwhile. Day by day, three weeks passed with his saving tin becoming heavier.
Paragraph 2:
Finally came the day. Bruce slipped into his room, secretly took out the tin, poured all the coins and began to count. Six dollars and 20 cents. His constant efforts paid off. Holding the tin firmly, he rushed to the shop without a second’s delay. The shopkeeper couldn’t help thumbing up for Bruce. Back home excitedly, Bruce couldn’t wait to present the handbag to his mother, and announced proudly “Happy Women’ Day”. His mother got such a big surprise that he froze there for a minute. After knowing the story behind the gift, the mother threw her arms around Bruce , eyes sparkling with tears. The love from family was the warmest sunshine through hard times.

M: I finished my cooking course at the age of 21. I thought I was going to become a world-famous cook. I hoped people would travel from all over the world just to get a taste of my food. But three months later, I found out I was a nobody. Since nobody was traveling to taste my food, I decided I should travel to taste theirs.
During my travel, I visited many different countries, such as Japan and France, where different kinds of food opened my eyes. I especially loved the experiences in Italy and China.
When in Italy, I learned how to make pizzas and salads. We had long lazy lunches in the sun and evening meals where the conversation went on long into the night.
In China, I loved the hot Sichuan food and enjoyed the delicious Beijing snacks. I also discovered the joy of making dumplings with good friends.
My years of travel came to an end all too quickly, but I have decided what I should do for the rest of my life. I want to bring the fantastic food of the world into my kitchen in New York.班 级

Every autumn and winter, a large number of migratory birds look for shelter in the area around Fan Yunting’s home village of Daxinzhuang in Kaifeng, Henan province. It is always the busiest time of the year for the 66-year-old farmer.
Braving bitterly cold winds and occasional heavy snow, he often patrols(巡逻)more than 10 kilometers a day by bike along the banks of the Yellow River. Fan has been doing this unpaid work for more than 20 years. To date, he has helped over 500 wild birds that have been trapped, injured or even poisoned, and prevented illegal(非法的) hunting more than 200 times. His devotion has seen him wear out five bikes.
His love for birds dates back to his childhood. As a small boy, he often fed wild birds with whatever food he could get. In early adulthood, he not only kept the habit, but also sold crops for money to treat any injured or sick birds he came across. He even sometimes bought meat to feed wild eagles.
At then, when few people were aware of the need to protect birds, his actions won him the nickname “Idiot”. However, he just smiled when he was called the name and continued his protection work without complaint.
Later, the officials invited him to work as a volunteer for wildlife protection. He accepted it with pleasure. Since then, from October to March, when many migratory birds arrive to overwinter, Fan usually gets up at about 5 am to patrol the shores of the Yellow River near his village.
The freezing temperatures are not the only challenge he has had to face. In 2001, he even argued with hunters. “I tried to persuade a group to stop hunting. But they refused and together they started to beat me,” he recalled.
Fan’s strong will has brought him many honorary titles. He became a model worker of China in 2020. In 2021, he was selected as one of the country’s top 100 model volunteers in the field of environmental protection.

ChatGPT,a new chatbot model developed by US-based AI research laboratory OpenAl,has quickly become a hit globally due to its advanced conversational capabilities,
It can write emails, computer codes, even academic papers and poems, and has passed a number of tests within seconds.Academicians worldwide are discussing whether AI should be used in education. Some universities have banned it. As for professors, AL can free them from doing some dull tasks so they can concentrate on teaching and interacting with students.

Recently researchers are discovering that learning is easier, quicker and more long-lasting if it involves the body. To some extent, the discovery should come as no surprise. Consider that many of us probably began to understand basic arithmetic(算术)by counting on our fingers before learning to count in our head.
Conventional thinking had it that as we grew, we became more able to think abstractly(抽象地), which might suggest teachers should help wean children off body gestures to prepare them for the adult world. But in truth, the physical world never really leaves our thinking. For example, when we process verbs such as lick, kick and pick, medical scanners show that the parts of our brain that control the muscles in our face, legs and hands become more active.
This theory is called embodied cognition(体验认知),and it suggests that what goes on in our minds comes from our actions and interactions with the world around us. It means that encouraging children to think and learn in a completely abstract way might actually make lessons harder for them to understand and remember.
Science is beginning to support the idea that actions really might speak louder than words in the classroom. Spencer Kelly, a psychologist at Colgate University in New York, has found that people spend three times as much time making gestures when the message they convey is particularly important. Kelly has also found evidence that students like a teacher better when that teacher uses arm and hand movements to emphasize points. Meanwhile, Susan Wagner Cook, a psychologist at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, has found that children pick up new concepts more effectively if they are taught to mirror and repeat the gestures their teacher uses, and that lessons involving words and gestures live longer in a student's memory than lessons using words alone.
32. What does the underlined phrase “wean children off body gestures" in paragraph 2 mean
A.Let children be aware of body gestures. B.Make children stop using body gestures.
C.Give children an account of body gestures. D. Encourage children to use body gestures.
33.According to embodied cognition, which of the following statements can be inferred
A. Our minds can help shape reality.
B. It's not easy to understand abstract concepts.
C.The environment around is important for one's cognition.
D. Interacting with the world improves one's memory.
34.What can we learn from Spencer Kelly's study
A. Body movements can raise a teacher's popularity.
B. Young students like to mirror their teacher's gestures.
C.Using body gestures makes students love learning.
D. Body language is more powerful than spoken language.
35.What is the text mainly about
A. A study on classroom teaching. B. The dark side of thinking abstractly.
C. The function of body language. D.A new finding about learning.

A cool day evening during the Depression , Bruce, a boy of 12, saw a beautiful handbag in a shop . The price of it was 6 dollars, which was unaffordable for him. It could support his family for a week.
Bruce couldn’t ask his parents for the money, for there was no spare money they could save under the terrible economic situation.
Hesitantly, he opened the door of the shop and entered it. Standing in his shabby coat and worn-out shoes, he whispered to the shopkeeper what he wanted. In a flash, he added firmly, I don’t have enough money now, but can you hold it for three weeks I am sure to afford it then as a gift for my mother for the coming Women’ Day.
“I will try,” the shopkeeper smiled. “People here don’t usually have that kind of money to spend on things. I could keep it for you. Bruce bowed to the shopkeeper with a clear expression of gratitude and walked out confidently. He was bound to raise enough money and not tell anybody, for he thought Mom would get a surprise. On turning the corner, he heard the sound of hammering used nail bags. Then a good idea struck him that he could raise money by selling the used bags. People built their own houses, using nail bought in bags from a local factory. Sometimes the used bags were thrown away at the construction sites, and Bruce knew he could sell them back to the factory for ten cents a piece. That day he sold two nail bags.
