When I found out that my new friend Karina did not share my opinions about some stuff, I was very upset. It was hard to imagine disagreeing with her about anything because when we first met, we got along so well. It was as if we’d known each other forever.
“No way!” I said, as I sat next to her on the first day of karate (空手道) camp. “Are those banana chips in your lunchbox ”
“You like banana chips ” she said in a surprised voice. “They’re my favorite snack.”
“My aunt brought some the last time she visited, and I’ve been craving (渴望) them ever since,” I said.
“I guess today’s your lucky day,” she said, handing me the bag. “We have a big box that’s kind of taking up space in the cupboard. So, you’d actually be helping me out!”
Right then is when I knew that Karina and I were meant to be friends forever. Whenever we got to pick a partner at camp, we picked each other. Whenever we had a break, we hung out together. The more time we spent together, the more we realized how amazingly alike we were. We both had two adorable cats, we both had an awesome younger sister, and we both had the same favorite song.
But then something happened. Karate camp was next to a piece of beautiful land that had a bunch of large old trees on it. Whenever it was nice out, we’d get to eat our lunch at picnic tables that were right by some of those trees.
After we finished lunch, our coach, Miguel, reminded us to keep the forest as clean and perfect as it was when we got here.
And that’s when things got complicated.
Sam, one of our teammates, asked us, “Have you guys heard that shopping mall rumor They want to cut down a bunch of those trees to make room for a shopping center.” To my surprise, Karina said, “My parents told me the shopping center would make new jobs for people who really needed work and people’s jobs were more important than trees.”
Paragraph 1:
I completely disagreed with Karina about cutting down trees.

When Dylan was just seven years old, he moved to the United States with his mother, Khadine, and his twin younger brothers. The family hoped that their new home would allow them to start over and find success. However, their dream didn’t work out exactly as they imagined it would.
Life as a single mother supporting three kids is incredibly difficult, but Khadine had a particularly difficult time after her twin sons had been diagnosed with serious heart conditions. As a result, the boys suffered from dangerous symptoms and required 24-hour care. As Khadine had to work three jobs to support her family financially, it became Dylan’s responsibility to look after his young brothers. To relieve Mom’s stress, Dylan also found a part-time job at a recreation center.
While Dylan never considered his family to be a burden to him, seeing his mother and brothers become vulnerable (脆弱的) made him determined to plan his future out correctly. He believed education was the only way out of their struggle, so he made a promise to his mother that he would be the first one in the family to go to college.
For that promise, Dylan made use of each and every minute to study while taking care of his brothers. He soon became an honor student at Henry High School and took several advanced classes to keep his grades up. The College of New Jersey was his top choice. He was determined to put that admission letter in his mother’s hands.
However, weeks before Dylan’s college entrance exam, both his family and his determination were tested again when Khadine fell ill and was unable to work for a while. Soon, the bills became unmanageable and the landlord evicted (驱逐) Dylan’s family after Khadine couldn’t pay the rent. The family had no choice but to live in the shelter. The place wasn’t an ideal place to study. It was often noisy and crowded, and the lights would go out at a certain time after 11 p.m.

The Impolite Boy
James Selton was one of the most insolent boys in the village where he lived. He would rarely pass people in the street without being guilty of some sort of abuse.
One afternoon, just as the school was dismissed, a stranger passed through the village. His dress was plain and somewhat old, but neat and clean. He carried a cane in his hand, on the end of which was a bundle, and he wore a broad-brimmed hat.
No sooner did James see the stranger, than he winked to his playmates, and said, “Now for some fun!” He then silently went toward the stranger from behind, and, knocking off his hat, ran away.
The man turned and saw him, but James was out of hearing before he could speak. The stranger put on his hat, and went on his way. Again did James approach; but this time, the man caught him by the arm, and held him fast.
However, he contented himself with looking James a moment in the face, and then pushed him from him. No sooner did the naughty boy find himself free again, than he began to pelt the stranger with dirt and stones.
But he was much frightened when the “rowdy”, as he foolishly called the man, was struck on the head by a brick, and badly hurt. All the boys now ran away, and James skulked across the fields to his home.
As he drew near the house, his sister Caroline came out to meet him, holding up a beautiful gold chain and some new books for him to see.
She told James that their uncle was now in the house; that he had brought beautiful presents for the whole family. She said that while he was coming through the village, some wicked boys threw stones at him, and hit him just over the eye, and that mother had bound up the wound. “But what makes you look so pale ” asked Caroline.
The guilty boy told her that nothing was the matter with him; and running into the house, he went upstairs into his chamber. Soon after, he heard his father calling him to come down. Trembling from head to foot, he obeyed. When he reached the parlor door, he stood, fearing to enter. His mother said, “James, why do you not come in See this beautiful watch, which your uncle has brought for you.”
Paragraph 1:
What a sense of shame did James now feel!

I feared going into my room after school. Every day it was something different. The hours away at school were long enough to cause a terrible change to my private room. Today can be no different.
As I entered the house, Mom greeted me with a smile. It seemed like nothing was wrong. Still, I wouldn’t believe. Yesterday, I discovered a chocolate cookie spread around the mouth of my angel statue. Its pink lips were covered in chocolate. Obviously, Callie had shared her cookie with my angel.
I looked around for my little sister, Callie, who had just turned three. I didn’t see her. As I checked the sitting room, I noticed it was pretty messy. There were toys all around. There were a few headless dolls, some blocks, the remains of a grape stuck into the carpet. I searched around and there she was, sitting on the sofa with the TV remote in her sticky hands. She looked up and saw me. A huge smile broke out on her face, and she laughed, clapping her hands. I was surprised that they didn’t stick together.
“Sissy (sister)!” She jumped off the sofa and ran to me, hugging my knees and almost tipping me over. “Hi, Callie,” I said, with the slightest smile. I ruffled (抚弄) her long thick hair, and some white crumbs (残渣) fell to the carpet. “Cheese, sissy”, Callie said, pointing at the crumbs that had settled onto the carpet. I found a strong smell of cheese from them. Had Callie focused on destroying only the sitting room A voice raced across my mind. No way. Not my sister, the destroyer. Not my sister, the three-year-old terror. I turned around and started the scared climb to my room.

When seeing Josh, Gina asked him for help. “Sorry, Grandma. I have to leave for base-ball now, " Josh answered from the sofa, his eyes locked on his own phone. Then he stood up, took his baseball bag, and left. Over the next few days, Gina went to see Josh several times. However, Josh always had something to do, giving excuses such as going to the movies.
Gina finally understood Josh actually didn't want to help her. She stopped asking him. She turned to some friends for help. Before long, she learned how to use her phone to read stories, communicate with friends, etc.
Later, on a Monday evening, Gina visited her daughter, Oona. They happily talked when

2023届辽宁省鞍山市普通高中高三第二次质量监测英语试题
47.范文一:
I completely disagreed with Karina about cutting down trees.Since trees were home to hundreds of small animals, I couldn’t believe that Karina could be such a cruel person who wanted to replace the lively forest with a noisy shopping mall. Overwhelmed by anger and confusion, I shouted at Karina, “How dare you wish to destroy such a wonderful forest ” Shocked by my mean words, Karina stared at me in horror and failed to say a word. After a while, Karina broke the silence, telling me the story of her parents.
Later, I suddenly realized Karina had her reasons for believing what she did.Herparents had suffered from unemployment for a long time and could hardly support the family, so she understood the importance of jobs deeply. “But I just want to save our wonderful land,” I explained in a low voice, feeling sorry and guilty. Gently patting me on the shoulder, Karina comforted me, “That’s fine.” It suddenly dawned on me that a friend was not the same person as me, but a person who accepted me. I smiled at Karina, and invited her to hang out, after which our laughter soon lingered in the beautiful land again.
范文二:
I completely disagreed with Karina about cutting down trees.I said, “We have to stop that. Think of all the birds that would lose their homes! Can’t we figure out how to make jobs without destroying nature ” Hearing what I said, Karina told me super seriously, “Maybe we’re not quite as alike as we thought.” I felt very upset. Maybe two people with opposite points of view just aren’t meant to be friends, I was thinking.
Later, I suddenly realized Karina had her reasons for believing what she did.No matter what it was, the difference wasn’t worth losing a perfectly good friendship over. We ended up having lots more fun at karate camp. And even now, a couple of months later, we still send each other funny pictures of our cats or our baking creations. No two people are exactly alike, and even the best friends disagree sometimes. What’s important is that you respect each other and focus on the good stuff.
范文三:
I completely disagreed with Karina about cutting down trees. I poured out my feelings on the trees being home to all the birds as well as being able to absorb carbon dioxide, with much anger overwhelming me as I almost lost my coolness. “Don’t you think people’s livelihood is more important than a patch of wood ” Karina asked me directly. “But not at the cost of cutting down trees!” I said firmly. The argument between us made me feel powerless and there seemed to be a barrier growing between us.
Later, I suddenly realized Karina had her reasons for believing what she did.Karinatook my hand sincerely and said, “I never want to quarrel with you again. Maybe we shouldn’t hold on our own views so seriously, and instead, learn to respect each other.” I threw myself into her arms. All my feelings of horror, anger, guilt and grief were suddenly gone due to this comforting hug. During the following days we immersed ourselves in the fun of karate. There seemed to be delight in every heart, laughter in every face, and cheer in every step.

47.I pushed the door open and saw a complete mess again! My bed and desk were fully covered by white crumbs, and the walls were full of grape juice graffiti. What’s worse, I discovered cheese spread around the mouth of my angel statue whose pink lips were covered in cheese. I was completely shocked. Filled with anger, I was unable to utter a single word. So angry was I that I shook my fist at her. The moment she saw my reaction, she froze with fright, as if rooted on the ground. All of a sudden, she bursted into tears.
Seeing the tears in her eyes, I bent down and lifted her up gently. “It’s OK. Callie, no matter what you do, I will love you forever. You are such a good girl, for it is you creative imaginations that give me surprises everyday. Thank you!” I kissed her on her face, ruffling her long thick hair. On hearing that, her eyes widened with excitement and her mouth opened. “Sissy (sister)! I love you too.” She said heartily, and the smile on her face shone like a diamond.
