Amazing species previously unknown to the outside world are being discovered in the Amazon Rainforest at a rate of one every three days, according to World Wildlife Fund(WWF) in a report published in 2010.
A giant snake, a big catfish that eats monkeys and a blue spider are among the 1, 220 animals and plants to have been found from 1999 to 2009, according to the study.
The report was published during a United Nations (UN) meeting in Japan. The aim of the meeting was to try to stop the extinction of species around the world. WWF said it showed why protecting the Amazon was so important.
"This report clearly shows the amazing diversity of life in the Amazon," Francisco Ruiz, From WWF, told reporters. "(But) this incredible region is under pressure because of the human presence."
Logging and clearing for agriculture uses such as cattle farming have led to 17 percent of the Amazon Rainforest—an area twice the size of Spain—being destroyed over the past 50 years, according to WWF.
"The report serves as a reminder of how much we still have to learn about this unique region, and what we could lose if we don't change the way we think about development," Ruiz said.

②考查介词。take sth for granted“认为……是理所当然的”,为固定搭配,故填for。
③考查状语从句的省略。此处是一个省略句,brush与前面的They是逻辑主谓关系,强调动作正在进行,故填 brushing。
④考查时态。根据后面的具体时间状语可知,应填一般过去时。故填established。
⑤考查冠词。在年代前面使用the,故填 the。
⑥考查副词。应用副词修饰前面的动词move,作状语。
