23年高考英语外刊阅读理解训练——你有遗望清单吗?
——改编自Do you need a bucket list
Bucket lists have become a popular way for people to plan out the experiences they would like to have in their lives. It is often seen as a way to fulfill dreams and overcome anxiety that could prevent someone from pursuing their goals. Annette White, a blogger, made a promise to herself to continuously push her comfort zone and live out her bucket list.
Helen Fawkes, a BBC reporter who knew she had incurable ovarian cancer, found comfort in creating a bucket list which she called a "list for living". Unfortunately, she was not able to complete all of her 50 items before passing away at 45 years old. Despite this, creating a bucket list can provide hope and focus in one's life.
However, some have argued against using bucket lists as a coping strategy for controlling something uncontrollable, such as death. Clinical psychologist Linda Blair proposed that making a bucket list takes away the spontaneity of life and can encourage people to follow someone else's idea of a perfect life. Additionally, sticking to a fixed list of goals can hinder impulsivity, and people may change their aims and wishes over time.
Nevertheless, dream big but also be aware that life is unpredictable. It's best to enjoy each moment and find a healthy balance between planning for the future and living in the present. Whether you decide to make a bucket list or not, life is ultimately yours to explore and embrace, and it's important to make the most of what you have while you can.
