Stress is an everyday occurrence for most people, but it doesn’t have to dominate your life. By addressing your stress in a healthy way, you are doing all that you can to make the most of your high school education. 1 . Just as everyone experiences stress in their own way, we all have our preferred methods of coping with it.
Being organized.
Organization is very important in academic life for dealing with stress. By keeping academic notes organized, turning in assignments on time, and keeping track of all deadlines, stress can be reduced to a great extent. Getting organized means knowing where everything is, remembering deadlines and test dates, and clearing distractions. 2 .
Deal with the stressors.
Perhaps one of the best ways to manage your stress is to simply deal with the cause of it directly. 3 . If you’re taking an exam, and are finding that you haven’t made full preparations, consider turning to your teachers or classmates.

Between your classes, homework, and other obligations, you may find most of your days booked solid with plans, activities, and tasks that need to be done. If you feel over stressed by all that you need to do, schedule an afternoon where you don’t have to do anything but read your favourite book or watch a movie.
Spend time with loved ones.
5 . Being around someone who makes you feel comfortable can relieve a great deal of stress, even if you don’t talk about what’s troubling you. There was a time when I was very concerned about what other people thought of me, especially when I was misunderstood and labeled incorrectly. 6 Of course, you need to do something to let go of that mental suffering if you are stuck in such a similar situation.
7 What makes what other people think of you so important If other people’s opinions cause you to worry, chances are that you have a tendency to be pleased. Being favored might be a winning formula for you in the past. Certainly, there are advantages to having someone’s high regard. But if it doesn’t come as expected, ignore it.
·Understand you can’t control others. The reality is that you cannot control what another person thinks of you. What most people don’t understand is that we often form opinions of others based on associations we had in the past. 8 That’s his or her private views.
·Practice daily self-love and acceptance. Your situation may come from a concept that we are not as worthy as another person and our needs are not as important as theirs. 9 That’s to say, there is no one above or below you. We all have different roles but that does not make anyone more valuable as a human being.
·Live a life that pleases you. Constant worry about what others think of you must create considerable stress and will impact your relationships, your health, and your peace of mind.
·Stay true to your values and do your own thing. You will not need to be concerned with the few people who just don’t seem to understand you. 10
A.Be who you really are.
B.Identify and understand why you care.
C.Recognize you are equal to every other person.
D.They think of you in a way that might be out of date.

When you learn how to set intentions, you may tap into your inner drive and reach your dreams. Just remember that motivation is not a constant. Like the tide, it rises and it falls ,so be prepared for this. 11
Finish a small task early on.This can be as simple as making your bed. 12 When this becomes a habit, add something that can help you access your inner self and be sure to do it early on in the day. This could be a nature walk, yoga stretches or spiritual practices.
Write a journal. 13 It is also beneficial to make sure you write down three things you feel gratitude for every day. This can help you re-frame and see your situation in a more positive light. Just keeping a gratitude journal can help you think positively,
Be optimistic. 14 A positive attitude can really make dreams come true.Practice gratitude in the journaling tip. If you slip up,tell yourself you will work on this or treat it as an opportunity to learn and to grow. If you feel like you are losing your drive, optimism will get you back on track.
15 That negative voice is always there, ready to appear. Some call this voice the ego (自尊心). The ego is something that plays out in our head to convince us of our unworthiness. Tell your ego you appreciate it wanting to protect you and care for you.
A.Talk to your negative voice.

We clearly live in an era with little patience. Entire TV series are available at once on streaming services, and burning questions are solved in seconds via a search engine. This instant satisfaction, undoubtedly, is killing our ability to wait. 16 . Here are some strategies to pick up that magic mix if you weren’t born with it.
● Visualize success
There’s no need to set a real situation where you wait in a super long grocery checkout line to test yourself. Simply visualizing it helps a lot. See yourself smiling and breathing as you wait for the line to move. 17 . For example, you could say, “it’s not bad to enjoy this magazine while waiting”. Your mind will start to process the picture as a real experience and help to set you up for future successes.
● Slow down
Racing around is not necessarily the only way to get what you want. 18 . Most adults do not feel happy when they’re rushing, and children are even less capable of doing it with a good attitude. Instead of sweating through your routine, turn on some background music you like and move at a normal pace.
● 19
The ability to let your mind wander, whether daydreaming or actively applying your imagination, is a skill that improves patience. 20 . Take a break and do something that could free your brain from the work that takes tons of energy. This helps you build up your staying power, so next time you might be more patient and more likely to focus on your task.
A.Learn to distract yourself
B.Add some positive words if possible
C.Therefore, we are getting more and more impatient
D.You don’t have to get the whole paper done in one go
E.We get so caught up in hurrying that we get stuck in that mode
F.But sometimes, a fast pace does improve our working efficiency
G.Thus, the loss of this mixed quality of tolerance and calmness is unavoidable
B
Sports day! These two words can inspire both joy and fear in the hearts of students everywhere. 21 And it’s also the chance to bag a prize or two. For others, it might feel like having to take part in something they aren’t good at.
Today, more and more schools have recognized the importance of exercise. Many of them have non-competitive” sports days. They hope that by making sports days less competitive, children of all abilities will be encouraged to take part without fear of losing. Exercise and fitness is important for everyone, no matter how good at sport you are. 22
However, some people feel that it’s important that sport has winners and that learning to lose is just as important as learning how to win. 23 Particularly, on a sports day which is your chance to really prove yourself!
24 According to a 2017 survey by Families Online, 82% of parents say they prefer “traditional” competitive sports days. Many adults feel that children can learn valuable lessons in both winning and losing. It’s also an opportunity for some children to show off their physical and sporting skills.
People have different ideas about whether it is the winning or the taking part that counts when it comes to school sports days 25 We want to know your ideas.
A.What’s the point if no one wins
B.Should sport just be about winning
C.For many, sports day can be a great day of fun.
D.So, should School Sports Day be competitive or not
E.Everyone should be celebrated for trying and playing their part.
F.There are lots of people who agree with the idea—parents in particular!
G.Many parents are worried that their kids can get injured when doing sports.

As Plastic Chokes the Ocean, Technology Can Help
Some 8 million tons of non-recyclable (不可回收的) plastic end up in the ocean each year. At an alarming rate, the seas may have more plastic than fish by the middle of the century. 26
Require a global solution to a global problem. 27 The developed countries and most of developing countries show their leadership in this process by setting goals, encouraging other member states, and offering support for poor countries.
28 Although they are helpful to protect clean water and air, as it is known, non-recyclable plastic is widely used in the markets. Therefore, non-recyclable plastic still can be bought in our daily life. Its disappearance needs much more time and efforts.
Pay more attention to the new studies on plastic and technologies. Some of researchers are aiming to make replacements for plastic. 29 For example, “interceptors” can remove river pollution before it reaches the ocean.
Expect more responsibility from manufacturers. 30 As a start, they should be encouraged to simplify complex packaging. And their working with world governments will support poorer nations to improve waste collection and landfill (垃圾场) management.
The world doesn’t have enough time in trying to solve the problem. The sooner these efforts start, the better.
A.Strengthen the connection between countries.
B.Others are doing more research on new technologies.
C.Nearly 200 countries agreed to ban plastic pollution.
D.Establish production limits for non-recyclable plastic.
E.They should care about different laws on plastic in the poorer countries.
F.They are well aware of how to reduce the harms their products cause.
G.Thus it’s necessary to take immediate action to stop that.

Coral reefs are the rainforests of the ocean. They exist on vast scales and are equally important havens of biodiversity. Reefs occupy 0.1% of the oceans. 31
Corals are useful to people. Without the protection which reefs afford from crashing waves, low-lying islands such as the Maldives would have flooded long ago, and a billion people would lose food or income. However, reefs are under threat from rising sea temperatures. Heat causes the algae (海藻) with which corals are living together to generate toxins (毒素) that force those coral to leave. 32
Research groups around the world are coming up with plans of action to see if that will help, such as identifying naturally heat-resistant corals and cross-breeding such corals to create a new type. 33 Without carbon reduction and decline in local, coral-killing pollution, even resistant corals will not survive the century.
Doubters doubt humanity will get its act together in time to make much difference.
34 Carbon targets are being set and ocean pollution is being dealt with. Countries that share responsibilities for reefs are starting to act together. Scientific workarounds can also be found. Natural currents can be applied to facilitate mass breeding. Sites of the greatest ecological and economical importance can be identified to maximize bang for buck.
35 It could serve as a blueprint for other ecosystems. Hard-core greens — those who think that all habitats should be kept unspoiled — may not approve. But when entire ecosystems are facing destruction, the cost of doing nothing is too great to bear.
A.This can cause a coral’s death.
B.But there are grounds for optimism.
C.And they host a quarter of marine species.
D.Coral’s global ecosystem services are worth up to $10trn a year.
E.This mix of natural activity and human intervention is important.
F.This research can also be brought to bear on trying to save entire ecosystems.
G.However, the assisted evolution of corals does not meet with universal enthusiasm.
