The doorbell is ringing. Jenny goes to open the door.
Jenny：Hello Danny. Come in，please.
Danny：I ran all the way to your house. Would you and
Brian like to go to the zoo this Saturday？I hear
there are some new animals at the zoo.

Jenny：Good idea . Brian isn’t at home.He hasn’t been to the zoo
in Edmonton yet . I think he will be glad to go.
(Danny screams！)
Jenny：Danny，what happened？Why did you scream
Danny：I tried to sit down，but a tiny
tiger jumped off the sofa!
Jenny：That’s my new friend—Zoe. She is Aunt Jane’s cat. Her family
went on a vacation and she asked me to take care of Zoe. You
almost sat on her. She’s afraid of you now.
Danny：Sorry，Zoe. Don’t be afraid of e here！ I have some
donuts for you.
Jenny：Danny！Zoe likes to eat fish. She doesn’t like donuts.
Danny：She’s gentle and quiet. I’d love to have a pet，too.
Jenny：What pet would you like to have
Danny：I’d like to have a dog. Dogs are friendly and loyal.
Jenny：Yeah. They even help people sometimes.
Language point 1
I think he will be glad to go.
glad作形容词,意思是“高兴的;开心的”,不可以用在名词的后面。be glad to do sth 表示“很高兴做某事”。
She is glad to help others.她很高兴去帮助别人。
【拓展】glad还可以接由that 引导的从句,that 可以省略。
e.g. I’m very glad that you can come.你能来我很高兴。
Language point 2
Danny，what happened
happen是不及物动词,意思是“发生”,
表示事情发生有其偶然性,其后不能直接接宾语。
常用于以下结构:
(1)sth happen to sb/sth 某人/某物发生某事。
e.g. What happened to your watch
你的手表怎么了
(2)“sth happen +地点/时间”表示“某地/某时发生了某事”。
e.g. A car accident happened on Xingfu Road on Tuesday.
周二幸福路上发生了一起车祸。
Language point 3
I tried to sit down,but a tiny tiger jumped off the sofa!
try to do sth意思是“想方设法去做某事”,和try one’s best to do sth 是一个意思,它的否定形式是 try not to do sth,意思是“尽力不去做某事”。
e.g. You should try not to make mistakes.你应该尽力不去犯错。
e.g. She tried to finish homework.她尽力完成作业。
Language point 4
Her family went on a vacation and she asked me to take care of Zoe.
vacation为可数名词,意思是“假期”,复数形式为vacations。
e.g. She wants to take a vacation in Beijing.她想去北京度假。
【拓展】　holiday 也意为“假期”,与vacation 同义。
e.g. She wants to go to Beijing during the summer holiday.
暑假期间,她想去北京。

She’s afraid of you now.
be afraid of 意思是“害怕,担心”,表示害怕什么东西,害怕某事发生,内心有恐惧感,不愿意某事发生,后面常接名词、代词或者动名词形式。
e.g. Lucy is afraid of snakes.露西很怕蛇。
【拓展】be afraid to do sth意思是“害怕去做某事”,表示按照过去的经验或者常识,觉得做某事有危险而不敢去做。
e.g. The boy is afraid to swim.
这个男孩害怕游泳。
