第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分 50 分)
第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和 D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
Fairy Tale-Like Destinations You Can See in Real Life
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (China)
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is part of the larger protected Wulingyuan Scenic Area in
China’s Hunan province. The 3,000 towering sandstone pillars in this huge park are
breathtaking. Some are more than 600 feet tall, and most have vegetation growing on their
sides and summits.
The Chocolate Hills ( Philippines )
There are around 1,776 hills covering a 20-square-mile area in the towns of Carmen,
Batuan, and Sagbayan, each with a seemingly perfect conical shape. The hills range from 100
feet to almost 400 feet in height. The most widely accepted theory of their origin is that they
consist of coral deposits (珊瑚沉积物) that were forced upward due to rainwater and erosion.
Much of the year, the hills are covered with green grass, which increases their charming
appearance. However, during the dry season, the grass turns deep brown, giving them their
“chocolate” tag.
Deadvlei ( Namibia )
Deadvlei, also spelled Dead Vlei, is a plain surrounded by red sand dunes in the Namib
Desert. The site is so unique because trees once grew there, but shifting dunes and climate
change killed the vegetation over time. The air was so dry that the trees never rotted, thus
becoming skeletons. But they are not scary. These rare trees are estimated to be around 900
years old. The combination of tall red dunes, bright clay flats, and tree skeletons combine to
create a fantastic atmosphere that inspires tourists to visit.
Lake Hillier ( Australia )
Lake Hillier sits on Middle Island off the coast of Western Australia. Hillier is a small lake,
less than 2,000 feet in length, but it grabs people’s attention because of its incredible bright
pink color. It is especially noticeable because it contrasts with the neighboring blue ocean and
the surrounding green leaves.
高二英语 第 3 页 共 11 页
Why the lake is pink is not 100% clear, but the theory is that it’s caused by the interaction
between the salty water and a specific type of micro algae (微藻类) that grows well under these
specific conditions.
21. Of the following destinations, whose popularity is least related to color
A. Deadvlei. B. Lake Hillier.
C. The Chocolate Hills. D. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
22. What made tree skeletons in Deadvlei
A. The sand dunes. B. The dry air.
C. The clay flats. D. The salty soil.
23. What is the purpose of the text
A. To analyze the formation of some scenic spots.
B. To explain the roles of color in fairy tales.
C. To introduce some fascinating scenic areas.
D. To show the ways of visiting exceptional destinations.

Eight months after my father died, I saw some letters on top of my mother’s coffee table.
They were tied with a silk ribbon and addressed to her decades ago in my father’s neat
handwriting. I couldn’t imagine my serious father ever writing anything like love letters.
“Would you like me to read them to you ” Mom asked with a hint of a smile.
The letters were written in 1974 over the course of a month when my father traveled to
Italy to care for his beloved, sick mother, leaving his wife and me, their newborn daughter,
behind in Toronto, the city my parents called home after immigrating to Canada from Italy in
1956.
Growing up, my father was my hero and protector, but he was also a man of few words,
part of a generation of immigrant men who worked hard for a better life.
I sat back while my mother read his letters to me, and thought, “Who is this guy ” My
father used endearing terms I had never heard him say. He referred to my mother as “my
dearest” and “my companion” who was always in his thoughts. In each letter, he enclosed a
Canadian one-dollar bill for me and declared, “You and your mother are my life.”
As children, we assume we know everything about our parents. But, sometimes, we find
that they were and are people with various facets.
My father was proud and stubborn, and he married a woman who was his equal in that
regard. During their 58-year marriage, their stubbornness often led to conflict. So it was
bittersweet to hear my father’s youthful sentiments read aloud by my elderly mother with a
wistful (留恋的) tone. I knew she was thinking about what could have been and what had been
once upon a time. After she finished reading the letters, I held them in my hands and examined
them like they were fossils. Although a man I knew as economical with his thoughts, he had
高二英语 第 4 页 共 11 页
filled the front and back of several pages.
These letters are only part of their correspondence. My mother wrote back to my father.
One day she will read those letters to me, which she’s assured me. And just as with my father,
they might help me discover another dimension of a parent I never knew before.
24. What kind of person did the author think her father was
A. Violent. B. Optimistic. C. Sensitive. D. Reserved.
25. What can we know about the author’s parents according to the text
A. Her father worked in Italy.
B. They didn’t get on well with each other.
C. They were identical in terms of stubbornness.
D. Her mother didn’t reply to the letters from her father.
26. What does the underlined word “facets” in Paragraph 6 most probably mean
A. Divisions B. Dimensions. C. Goals. D. Interests.
27. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. A Different Father in Love Letters B. The Hidden Sides of My Parents
C. In Memory of My Late Father D. Love Stories of My Parents

Microsoft is investing $10 billion in OpenAI, whose artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT
has lit up the Internet since its introduction in November, accumulating more than 1 million
users within days and touching off a fresh debate over the role of AI in the workplace.
Its ability to provide in-depth answers to user questions has even drawn the attention of
distinguished technology companies. The intelligent robot understands what the user says or
types and then responds in a way that makes sense. Its vast body of knowledge has been
gathered from the Internet and archived(归档)books. This makes ChatGPT a useful tool for
researching almost any topic.
“We have a lot of information on the Internet, but you normally have to Google it, then
read it and then do something with it,” says Ricardo, chief science officer and co-founder of AI
company Erudit. “Now you’ll have this resource that can process the whole Internet and all of
the information it contains for you to answer your question.”
ChatGPT cannot think on its own. It depends on the information that it has been trained on.
As a result, the AI tool works well for things that have accurate data available. However, when
unsure, ChatGPT can get creative and flow out incorrect responses. OpenAI cautions users to
check the information no matter how logical it sounds. Also, ChatGPT has only been trained
with information till 2021. Hence, it cannot be relied on for anything that happened after that.
Experts believe ChatGPT has limitless potential to solve real-world problems. It can
translate long texts into different languages, create content on almost any topic, and even
summarize books.
高二英语 第 5 页 共 11 页
However, ChatGPT has received mixed reactions from educators. Some believe it could
serve as a valuable tool to help build literacy skills in the classroom. It could also be used to
teach students difficult science or math concepts. But other educators think ChatGPT will
encourage students to cheat. They fear this will prevent them from building critical thinking
and problem-solving skills. As a result, many districts are starting to ban its use in schools.
28. ChatGPT is special, because __________.
A. it can think on its own B. it can answer users’ questions
C. it gets involved in meaningful talks D. it has a large number of users
29.What makes ChatGPT helpful to research various topics
A. Its capability of information processing. B. Its accurate information.
C. Its availability of instant responses. D. Its vast body of questions.
30. What can be inferred about ChatGPT from Paragraph 4
A. It shouldn’t be relied on for lack of creativity.
B. Users have to be cautious when using it.
C. We can consult it about anything in the past.
D. All the responses it gives are logical.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards ChatGPT
A. Favorable. B. Disapproving. C. Objective. D. Intolerant.

Imagine cozying up in your bed after a long day. You scroll through your favorite social
media apps for what feels like ten minutes, but then you realize hours have passed. You
promise yourself just five more minutes — then it’s 3:00 am. You wake up tired the next
morning and go to work dizzy but do the same thing again that night. You know you need the
rest, but you still stay up and sacrifice sleep to scroll aimlessly on your smartphone.
You are not alone. This phenomenon is called revenge bedtime procrastination (RBP),
which is defined by the Sleep Foundation as “the decision to sacrifice sleep for leisure time that
is driven by a daily schedule lacking in free time.” In other words, it occurs when people stay
up late at night to do things they enjoy, such as scrolling the Internet or watching TV, because
they feel they lack the freedom to do these things during the daytime.
How do you know if you’re engaging in RBP Ask yourself these questions: Do you delay
going to sleep because you would rather do other things that you enjoy, such as watching TV or
YouTube videos or playing video games Do you stay up late to spend time with friends or
family Do you miss out on sleep even though you know it’s important and that there are
consequences to pay for feeling tired Do you feel deprived of your personal life and free time
to simply relax Does your day mostly seem out of your control Do you delay getting projects
done, exercising or completing chores
What puts someone at risk for engaging in RBP Being a “night owl” can make people
高二英语 第 6 页 共 11 页
more inclined to stay up late. Dealing with significant daytime stress, especially tied to work, is
a big risk factor. Working extended hours or having a long commute are other risks, since these
leave little or no time for entertainment or relaxation.
A lack of sleep is tied to many different physical and mental health problems. When
revenge bedtime procrastination leads to too little sleep, it can cause negative effects on your
well-being, such as: fatigue, reduced motivation and productivity, heightened risk of drowsy
driving and accidents, worsened anxiety symptoms, reduced self-regulation, metabolic (新陈代
谢) disorders, weight gain, obesity, and even some bacterial infections and viruses.
32. Why do people develop revenge bedtime procrastination
A. They want to find excuses for sleeping late.
B. They strive to fulfil what they ought to do.
C. They hope to effectively resist fatigue and obesity.
D. They seek to make up for what they can’t do during daytime.
33. Which of the following is an example of RBP
A. Eating the tasty chocolate at eight o’clock in the evening.
B. Drinking and chatting with your friends or family at weekends.
C. Delaying sleep time to watch your favourite TV series.
D. Working with colleagues to complete important projects at night.
34. Which of the following is NOT the cause of an increased risk of RBP
A. You are a person who enjoys staying up late at night.
B. You can scroll your phone during subway commuting hours.
C. You have to overcome great pressure associated with work.
D. You are continuously asked to work overtime by your boss.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. A brief introduction to RBP. B. Symptoms related to RBP.
C. Negative effects produced by RBP. D. The risks of engaging in RBP.

We clearly live in an era with little patience. Entire TV series are available at once on
streaming services, and burning questions are solved in seconds via a search engine. This
instant satisfaction, undoubtedly, is killing our ability to wait. __36__. Here are some strategies
to pick up that magic mix if you weren’t born with it.
Visualize success
There’s no need to set a real situation where you wait in a super long grocery checkout
line to test yourself. Simply visualizing it helps a lot. See yourself smiling and breathing as you
wait for the line to move. __37__. For example, you could say, “it’s not bad to enjoy this
高二英语 第 7 页 共 11 页
magazine while waiting”. Your mind will start to process the picture as a real experience and
help to set you up for future successes.
Slow down
Racing around is not necessarily the only way to get what you want. __38__. Most adults
do not feel happy when they’re rushing, and children are even less capable of doing it with a
good attitude. Instead of sweating through your routine, turn on some background music you
like and move at a normal pace.
__39__
The ability to let your mind wander, whether daydreaming or actively applying your
imagination, is a skill that improves patience. __40__. Take a break and do something that
could free your brain from the task that takes tons of energy. This helps you build up your
staying power, so next time you might be more patient and more likely to focus on your task.
A. Learn to distract yourself
B. Add some positive words if possible
C. You don’t have to get the task done in one go
D. Therefore, we are getting more and more impatient
E. But sometimes, a fast pace can improve our working efficiency
F. We get so caught up in hurrying that we get stuck in that mode
G. Thus, the loss of this mixed quality of tolerance and calmness is unavoidable

I had stopped at the Swindon services (服务区) while on my way back to London. As I
drove up the slip road, I spotted a man with a backpack and his thumb out. I pulled over and
lowered the window.
“Which way are you heading ” I asked. “I’m going back to London.”
“Ah, that would be grand,” came his immediate reply. He opened the door and lifted his
backpack on to the back seat. “I’m Brendan,” he said with an easy smile and a rich Irish
tongue. “I was getting a bit desperate. I’ve had my thumb out for a day and half. Nobody seems
to stop these days.”
“I haven’t eaten in days,” said Brendan. “I’m trying to get home.”
I’ve always enjoyed picking up hitchhikers. I used to be a motoring journalist and crossed
the country in various test cars. Picking up a hiker always made me feel a little less guilty about
all the miles I was doing.
As we headed east along the motorway, Brendan told me how he came to be waiting for a
lift on that particular evening, and also about the two recent family tragedies that had ruined
him and pushed him out of his old life and on to the road.
Brendan told me that he was 52. He laughed a lot and enjoyed his off-grid (离网的 )
lifestyle. Until last week, that is, when he’d been robbed.
“Three young men in Birmingham took my other pack and it had all my money in it. I’ve
been sleeping out since then. I haven’t eaten in days. I’m hoping to get some casual work in
London, so I can then get myself home to Ireland.”

第一节
Dear David,
I feel delighted that you are interested in the second-hand book fair held by the Student
Union last Wednesday and I’d love to share some details with you.
Aimed to enrich students’ after-school life and arouse their enthusiasm for reading, this
activity provided a platform for students to buy used books. Each class exhibited on the school
yard the second-hand books they collected and sold them at the price they set in advance.
I think the event was a great success, which motivated us to further develop our reading
habits and helped bring idle books back to life. Hopefully, you can join in the activity next year.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One Possible Version:
As we were approaching the Heathrow turn-off, I had an idea. “Why don’t I just drop you at
the airport now ” I said,“I’ll help you buy a ticket and you can fly home.” “That’s so kind of you,”
he replied. Then, after a pause, “and please don’t worry. I’ll definitely wire you the money when I
get home.” I pulled onto the airport avenue and soon dropped him off outside the terminal
building. I went to a cashpoint, got out 10 shiny new 20 notes and handed them over. He took the
money and thanked me again and again.
Before he left to buy his air ticket, he gave me a huge hug. He took my phone number and
said he’d call as soon as he could to arrange the transfer. I bid farewell to him without any real
idea whether I’d ever see the man or the money again. As I drove the final miles to my own house
in London, I felt happy thinking about Brendan. He asked for help and I gave him in good faith.
We are reaching out to others with kindness, for no reason other than to help.

W: Yes,of course, Mr. Stone. We have you on our records. Can you manage this
afternoon
M: I’m afraid not. I can manage tomorrow.
W: I’m afraid, Dr. Milton’s not on duty tomorrow. He’ll be here the day after tomorrow.
That’s Thursday, March 27th.
M: Fine.
W: Will 5:30 be all right
M: Well, yes. But what time is the clinic closed
W: We start from 9:00 am and close at 7:00 pm on weekdays. We don’t work at the
weekend.
M: I prefer a later time so that I can come along after work.
W: Then what about 6:15
M: Well, that’s fine.

M: Hi, Jeanie. Why have you come to school an hour earlier
W: I want to get a front row seat and review one more time before the test. Why are you
here so early, Jack
M: I get out of my car here this time every day. You seem to be nervous about your
lessons. Have you finished your review
W: I’ve only been studying night and day for the last week. If I don’t get an A in this class,
I won’t get the support of my country. Why do you seem so calm
M: This class is really just a review for me. I’ve been learning it for two years.
W: That’s lucky for you.
M: Jeanie, can you guess what the test will be like Will it be difficult
W: I hope not. But I’m still worried about it.
M: Well, cheer up. Hope for good luck.
W: Thanks for wishing me luck.

I am an animal lover. The other day, I went to a park in which there was a huge bird
nest, the size of a football field. The nest is as tall as a four-story building. It allows birds
of all kinds to live with much more freedom than the traditional small birdcage. Within
the nest, visitors can see different birds walk or fly freely everywhere without being afraid
of people. There is a lake in the middle of the bird nest. Wild ducks and white swans swim
on the lake, looking for food thrown down by visitors. Before I left the bird nest, I
attended a bird show, in which some birds were trained to speak, some to play basketball
and some to ride bikes. Of course, they are toy balls and bikes, very small. I liked the
show very much.
