[山东威海2022高一月考]Suddenly, you wake up in the middle of the night with stomachache. It starts off as a dull pain, but then quickly heightens and seems to move down your body. So, you immediately jump on your computer or phone to search for various conditions you could be suffering from. Could it be a stomach virus, or worse still, stomach cancer
If this sounds familiar, you may be suffering from cyberchondria. It’s a hybrid term for cyberspace (网络空间) and hypochondria (now called “illness anxiety”), which refers to a state in which people are fearful of having a serious illness. A cyberchondriac is someone who searches the Internet excessively (过度地) for health information and rather than finding relief, diagnoses (诊断) himself or herself with a serious disease, and feels more anxious as a result.
Part Ⅱ
People with low levels of illness anxiety can search for health information on the Internet and are more likely to discuss the information with their doctors and make a plan to address the problem. For cyberchondriacs, that’s not the case. Their excessive searches tend to fuel unnecessary fear and anxiety and they often accept what they find online as a fact without ever consulting a doctor.
Excessive online searching not only makes a person with high levels of illness anxiety more anxious, but also brings other risks. A person might choose to self treat an illness he/she doesn’t have, taking medicines that may have side effects. What’s more, much of the health information online is not complete. One search engine even warns its users that medical related data on the web is intended for informational purposes only and they should always consult a health care professional if they have a medical concern.
The bottom line is that the Internet is an invaluable resource for information, finding providers, making connections and more, but it should never replace the sound advice from a medically trained doctor.

2022]We journalists live in a new age of storytelling, with many new multimedia tools. Many young people don’t even realize it’s new. For them, it’s just normal.
This hit home for me as I was sitting with my 2 year old grandson on a sofa over the Spring Festival holiday. I had brought a children’s book to read. It had simple words and colorful pictures—a perfect match for his age.
Picture this: my grandson sitting on my lap as I hold the book in front so he can see the pictures. As I read, he reaches out and pokes (戳) the page with his finger.

There’s one notable gap in my new media experience, however. I’ve spent little time in front of a camera, since I have a face made for radio. But that didn’t stop China Daily from asking me last week to share a personal story for a video project about the integration of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province.

A survey of university students shows that those who place more online orders for food seem more likely to feel depressed. The Panel Study of Chinese University Students released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences surveyed students at 18 universities.
The survey found that time spent online in general had a significant impact on students’ mental health. The more time a student spent online each day, the worse the self evaluation was and the higher the likelihood of depression. For sleep quality, about 45 per cent of student respondents gave themselves a score of 6 points out of 10. Data showed that 6.4 per cent of university students order takeaway food online almost every day, followed by 16 per cent who place orders 3 to 5 times a week and 21 per cent who use the service once to twice weekly. Dr Zhang Zhenyu, who participated in the research, said students on average had a self assessment that rated their physical and mental health at 8.45 points. Over 36 per cent scored more than 10 points on the CESD 10 depression scale. Zhang also found that 29.9 per cent of students thought themselves “fat” or “very fat” and 54.3 per cent said their appearance scored 6 out of 10.

The survey also showed that 22.6 per cent of students were left behind children when they were kids, which research defines as children separated from their parents for six months in a row who had to be looked after by others. Zhang said the early experience of separation from parents had a negative impact on students’ mental health and self assessment scores. They also had higher depression scores than those who lived with parents.
The research team also found that students with good family economic conditions scored higher in all dimensions than students from poor families. Students with a good physical and mental status had strong time management and self management abilities.

No messy coins—and more importantly—no embarrassment. This is how young Chinese “go Dutch” these days—scan a QR code and pay their share via smartphones with one easy click.
It was the first time most of the 13 people at my dinner table last weekend had used the function on the social networking tool WeChat. “It has made going Dutch less embarrassing and so much more fun,” said Zhou Ye, a Beijing based journalist. “Young people think splitting bills in this way is fun, and older ones may find it fashionable to do so.” Most importantly, it saves people the embarrassment of figuring out who owes what.
Splitting the bill is a relatively new idea to most Chinese. It’s popular among the young people, but for many older folks, who fear “losing face”, it feels embarrassing. At dinner parties, families and friends often “fight” over who will cover the expense.

Used by 600 million Chinese, WeChat is similar to WhatsApp but has many more features. One of them, WeChat wallet, allows people to pay for almost any service by smartphones. The bill splitting function was launched last year. The smartphone apps that rely on these payment platforms have transformed the lives of many urban Chinese. Massages, haircuts, house cleaning, laundry services and personal trainers can be ordered in your own home. Zhao Mengsha, 28, an editor in a magazine, enjoys manicure (美甲) once every month, and pays half of the price charged in salons. “It’s just really convenient,” she said. “I wouldn’t have thought about getting a massage at work without the apps.” Like millions of others, Zhao uses Alipay and WeChat to pay for the services. “You can live without a wallet but can’t live without your smartphone when you go out these days,” Zhao said.

Have you ever made your life look a little more charming than it actually is by posting beautified things on social media If so, you may be damaging your mental health.
The posts we make on social media platforms allow us to look back and see what we did on a given day. But what happens when, in an effort to impress our online friends, photos and videos we post become beautified versions of the things we did
A young girl named Sophia went out to a romantic anniversary dinner with her boyfriend, had a near relationship ending fight during dessert, and then came home and posted, “Had the best time out with the love of my life!”—even with a photo of the meal. No surprise, but according to a new study, Sophia was by no means unique. Two thirds of users admit lying about their lives on social media with 20 per cent of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 stating that they edit their own stories by frequently lying about relationships and promotions.

By beautifying our online stories, we are harming our memories. We start believing the stories we tell rather than remembering what really happened. Soon, the real experiences are lost and all that remains is the beautified versions of history.
Scientists fear that these edited stories will end up changing our memories. It’s well confirmed through research that our own memories are often unreliable and can be easily controlled. Writing down one’s life in the form of a journal, or even on social media can help us keep our memories undamaged, but only if we tell the truth. So recording our experiences through whatever medium, to later recall lessons we learnt, is not only acceptable but desirable. In fact, looking back on our own past—however embarrassing or uncomfortable—is not just healthy but can be enjoyable.

But that initial excitement has probably waned because our obsession (痴迷) with our parcel represents much more than the item we purchased. “What we’re talking about here is hope and having something to look forward to, but not the item itself,” O’Kane explains.

Anticipating good things is a formula that has fuelled many helpful remarks through the years: Tomorrow is another day. However, anticipation isn’t always a good thing. In September, people went into a frenzy when it was announced that their mail delivery would become permanently slower. And now, many are worried about their items. This phenomenon is called pre parcel anxiety. A delayed package may seem insignificant to some people. But for others, getting your hopes up only for them to be thwarted (阻挠) is annoying and anxiety provoking.
O’Kane says these reactions are telling us about more deep rooted internal issues in our lives that go beyond a delayed package. Anxiety is intolerance of uncertainty. So it’s really symbolic of something bigger, of that need to control and needing everything to be perfect. It’s important to practise self care and treat ourselves with occasional gifts. However, O’Kane cautions comfort shopping is only a temporary fix. He adds many people often seek external solutions as a way of feeling better quickly, whereas a healthier long term coping mechanism is to look inward and appreciate our life with “mindfulness, gratitude and savouring (品味)”. “We will find placing an order and receiving an item is stimulating us on some level, but it is the most passive way to live.Challenge ourselves to take
action in our life instead of waiting for it to arrive.”
So the next time we feel the impulse to order and track something online, consider why.

When our package finally arrives, many of us are satisfied. 故选A项。

O’Kane cautions comfort shopping is only a temporary fix... appreciate our life with “mindfulness, gratitude and savouring”可知,奥凯恩认为舒适的购物只能暂时缓解内心焦虑,很多人在面对这些问题时,倾向于寻找一种快速的方式,而真正健康有效的应对措施应该是寻找内心的平静。

You just have to be ready to catch inspiration when it hits. strike意为“突然出现(在脑子里)”,符合语境,且when it might strike与when it hits相呼应。
You never know when it might ________可知,此处应指它有时会来自你最意想不到的(unexpected)地方。never know与unexpected相呼应。
This ________ woman inspired her and helped her forget her pain.

Astronauts travelling in space meet various forms of radiation that are uncommon on Earth. Some of the radiation has been shown to be harmful to human health. It is linked to cancers and heart problems. Yet a new American study suggests the radiation does not shorten astronauts’ lives.
Researchers studied nearly 60 years of health records and other data of male astronauts from the United States. They then compared the data with information about a group of men who are in good health, richer than most Americans and receive good health care—professional athletes. The study found that neither group has higher rates of dying at a young age. In fact, both groups generally live longer than other Americans.
