Teaching focus Listening: Catch the main idea of the conversation. Reading: Understand the main idea of the passage. Vocabulary: P.E., art, science, music, math, Chinese, geography, history.
Anticipated difficulties Students may feel it difficult to use the new sentence expressions to talk about their preferences.
Teaching procedure Step 1 Lead-in 1. Ask students to brainstorm different subjects. ——How many subjects do you know What are they in English 2. Show students pictures on PPT and ask them to tell the subjects in English ——What subjects is it in English It is… Then teacher leads students to read the words and use syllables to spell the words. And ask students to read those words by themselves. Step 2 Listening 1a 1. Ask students to read those word in 1a and translate them. Then ask students to match the pictures. Some students will be invited to check answers. 2. Ask students to look at the conversation in 1a picture and lead students to read it. Then Have students listen and circle the subjects they hear in 1a. Step 3 Speaking 1c 1. Ask students to practice the conversation with their partners in 1c. Students can also make new conversations based on their own ideas using the target language. Provided sentence patterns: ——What’ s your favorite subjects ——My favorite subjects is… Step 4 Listening 2a-2b 1. Ask students to review the subjects they have learned according to the pictures on PPT 2.Play the recording and ask students to listen and put the conversation in order. Then the teacher can invite some students to check their answers. 3.Teacher write down the following to show students some ways in which these words could be used together in a conversation. Step 5 Speaking 2c The activity is to give students the opportunity to use targe language in a controlled situation. Teacher will show those following sentences on screen: What’s your favorite…..(subject/sport/Tv program/movie) Why After students have finished activity 2c, teacher will ask them to do the same practice with the given sentence patters. Step 6 Reading 2d The teacher will ask students to read the conversation silently and explain the sentences that students can’t understand. Then the teacher can focus students’ attention on the target structure appeared in the conversation and other key word groups. Students can make sentences using the key structure and phrases.. Then the teacher ask students to read the conversation to check their pronunciation. Step7 summary Invite students to summarize what they have learnt in this lesson. And the teacher can make up for the missing points. Introductions Lead-in: Brainstorming can better stimulate students to summarize and remember known words, and enable them to quickly join into the class. Listening and speaking(1a-1c): The vocabulary and sentence pattern exercises in the listening section can help students better grasp new knowledge.
