After she didn’t get into UW Eau Claire’s nursing programme the first two times she applied for, Briunna began exploring potential careers. She took several business classes, but quickly realised that business wasn’t the right choice for her and her real passion was in nursing. She applied for nursing again, and finally started the nursing programme in the fall of 2019.

She was just months into her first semester as a nursing major when she hit the next bump in the road. In November 2019, Briunna became extremely ill, with symptoms ranging from breathing difficulty to a high fever and a cough. Eventually, breathing became so difficult that she had to go to the emergency room. Therefore, Briunna could not attend classes for the rest of the fall 2019 semester, focusing instead on regaining her mental and physical health.
While Briunna was still in hospital, she already had connected with her fellow nursing majors as well as professors, who worked closely with her to make sure she stayed on course. Those connections made all the difference when she was trying to stay on track for graduation despite her illness.
In the spring, COVID 19 added additional obstacles (障碍) to her college journey, forcing her to find new ways to manage her time and keep herself motivated. What’s worse, she was also laid off from her part time job when stores closed, making it more difficult for her to pay for college.

[山东烟台2021期中]SpaceX’s first ever passenger flight to the International Space Station (ISS) ended successfully on August 2, 2020, when Crew Dragon Endeavour landed into the Gulf of Mexico. After a series of safety checks, the recovery team unlocked the capsule’s hatch (舱门) and moved NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to shore. During their total 64 days in space, they completed 1,024 orbits around the Earth and travelled 27,147,284 miles.
In a press conference the astronauts described the crucial final minutes of the historic mission when Crew Dragon fired its rocket pusher to slow its descent for re entry into the outer atmosphere. “It came alive,” Behnken told of the 12 minute pusher burn. “It sounds like an animal coming through the atmosphere.”
Hurley told reporters that following the successful landing, the astronauts had to complete one final task—“making satellite phone calls to whoever we can get a hold of”. The scientists said the fun attempt had a serious purpose, which is to ensure that future crews could use the emergency phone to contact mission control in case the spacecraft landed in an unexpected part of the ocean.

Crew Dragon Endeavour was launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on May 30, 2020. After 19 hours, the spacecraft autonomously pulled up at the forward port of the ISS. Hurley and Behnken spent their 62 days aboard the station conducting scientific experiments alongside Expedition 63’s crew and participating in numerous public engagements. Behnken also accompanied ISS Commander Chris Cassidy on four spacewalks to upgrade two power channels.
The journey marked the first time astronauts have been launched to orbit aboard a privately built spacecraft. It was also the first crewed orbital launch from American soil since the US Space Shuttle programme ended in July 2011.
With the final test flight completed, NASA will spend the next few weeks analysing all performance data. If everything is satisfactory, SpaceX will become the first private company to be certified to transport astronauts to the ISS. In anticipation of the approval, SpaceX is already preparing for its first two operational missions.

[重庆市实验中学2022月考]I had just delivered a memorable speech, and I was about to learn how the judges decided my performance. The audience leant forward and a period of silence fell across the room. I felt the drum rolled in my heart.
The third place winner was announced. The name was not mine. Then the second place winner, still not me. At last, the moment of truth came. I was about to either enjoy the warmth of victory or regret the months' preparation. My heart felt closer to the latter.
Losing is a part of life, and I have dealt with it on more than one occasion. However, it was an indescribable feeling to drive a 200 mile round trip, get up very early on a freezing Saturday morning, and yet still finish fourth out of four competitors in my group. After Lincoln lost the 1858 Illinois Senate race, he said, “I felt like the 12 year old boy who kicked his toe. I was too big to cry and it hurt too bad to laugh.” Oh yeah, I could relate.

[北京西城区2022高二期末]We often work to save the most charismatic (有超凡魅力的) species in the world. Is it time to think beyond pandas and tigers
Take a good look at the American burying beetle. Today it is assessed as critically endangered. Like the tiger, the beetle is decreasing in number. The tiger is an instantly recognisable symbol of species conservation, but most people aren't familiar with the beetle.
This phenomenon is called the domination of flagship species—charismatic creatures such as tigers organisations use to increase support and funding for conservation. That's largely because humans are attracted to large bodied animals with forward facing eyes and human like traits that make such species more relatable. As a result, many less well known organisms fail to get the support and funding to ensure their survival even though they play an important role in the ecosystem.

Which species could be saved They may not charm us with fuzzy paws and puppy dog eyes, but many ignored species deserve some love. The world needs to better recognise the contributions of these underdogs rather than “only spending money on cool species,” says University of Kent conservationist Bob Smith.
I suspect that most of us who care about creatures could agree on this: Charisma is in the eye of the beholder. In that case, can’t we broaden the list of species considered popular and even beautiful Smith says we can—and there’s a name for them: Cinderella species. These are mostly threatened species that are still very popular with the public yet are typically overlooked as flagships. Smith is convinced that “less well known and less popular species can still be good flagships with more marketing effort”.

In a recent study, Smith settled another myth about poster animals that they don’t help publicise the world’s most species rich and threatened places. A prioritisation (优先次序) model Smith created showed that hot spots of the most important conservation worldwide also are home to more than 500 flagship and Cinderella species, and that drawing more attention to Cinderella species could boost funding and public campaigns for habitat protection.
Let’s be clear, though: It’s still OK to root for pandas and tigers. “The reason I got into conservation is that I liked these species,” Smith says. “That is fair enough. But it's our job as conservationists to try to inspire people to love other species too.”

故填What。

故填a。

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a fantasy film, which is adapted from the novel written by the English writer J. K. Rowling and directed by Chris Columbus.
In the movie, Harry, whose parents were dead, was badly treated at his aunt's home. But fortunately, on his 11th birthday, he was invited to go to Hogwarts, a magic school where he could learn magic. It was a world full of magic and wonders. After Harry had experienced many adventurous and wonderful things there, he gained true friendship and learned to be brave.
The movie is a great success and it’s popular with people all over the world. Through it, we can learn to believe in ourselves and help others. So I highly recommend it.
