Chinese traditional painting and dance are two vital parts of the art world. But what about when they meet each other
In 2022, a dance drama titled “Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting” was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and went viral.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance show was inspired by the 910 year old Chinese painting “A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains”. Created by the Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich colouration and the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue green landscape: mountains and groupings of infinite rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling water.
When the dancers moved elegantly, the audience seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an ‘exhibition’. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” an Internet user wrote in a review. “About a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still wow people as they did long ago.”
Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theatres later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows highlight Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome. As for
why, it is due to people’s great love for traditional culture.
“The younger generations have grown up with a more open mindset. They embrace Chinese culture and
are proud of it,” Yao Wei, associate director of Henan TV Station, told China Daily.

Goodall ran out of acting offers. He ran out of money and was evicted (赶走), ending up on the streets of London. His home was a cardboard box, surviving on what little money people gave him. He took on many jobs like polishing and shining people’s shoes. And he never asked anyone for help.
He purchased a brush and a tin of polish using what little he had from begging, and he began his trade in London’s financial district. Goodall didn’t have a licence to trade so he was cautious about the authorities. But after six months, one of his regular customers made Goodall an offer that would turn his life around.

Goodall was allowed to set up in the hall of his customer’s office, which gave him a more stable income. He was now off the streets. The business grew as he moved into other establishments, inspiring Goodall to start his own shoeshine business Sunshine Shoeshine. He began hiring the homeless and those with special needs to help with his trade.
Goodall soon began earning around £250,000 a year in profit as he set up and expanded in various places around London. Sunshine Shoeshine employs mostly former homeless people like him. Goodall’s story and his way of giving back boosted his employees’ confidence as well, since he gave them a new chance in life.
Goodall remembers where he came from, and now he is able to transform lives through his efforts. This is what Sunshine Shoeshine is all about. He gives others the ability to take control of their lives once more. He thinks he just gives them a little push in the right direction.

[湖南邵阳2022高二期中]Aspirin was developed in 1897, and an explanation of how it works followed in 1995. That, in turn, has encouraged some research on making better pain relievers through something other than trial and error. This kind of discovery—answers first, explanations later—is called “intellectual debt”. We gain an understanding of what works without knowing why it works. We can put that understanding to use immediately, and then tell ourselves we’ll figure out the details later. Sometimes we pay off the debt quickly; sometimes, as with aspirin, it takes a century; and sometimes we never pay it off at all.
In the Age of Intelligence, while machine learning presents lots of problems and gets things wrong, at least we know enough to be wary of the predictions produced by the system and to argue that they shouldn’t be blindly followed: But if a system performs perfectly (and we don’t know why), then we come to rely on it and forget about it and suffer consequences when it goes wrong.

It’s the difference between knowing your car has faulty brakes and not knowing: Both are bad, but if you know there is a problem with your brakes, you can increase your following distance, drive slowly and get to a mechanic as soon as possible. If you don’t know, you’re likely to find out the hard way, at 80 mph on the highway when the car in front of you comes to a sudden stop and your brakes give out.
We don’t have much by way of solutions. Most importantly, we shouldn’t trick ourselves into thinking that machine learning alone is all that matters. Indeed, without life value, machine learning may not be meaningful answers at all.

1.What is the purpose of mentioning aspirin in the first paragraph
A.To present the research process of aspirin.
B.To introduce a similar situation machine learning faces.
C.To show the difficulty in explaining how aspirin works.
D.To prove we can use something even when we don’t understand.
2.What does the underlined word “wary” in the second paragraph probably mean
A.Negative. B.Doubtful.
C.Anxious. D.Cautious.
We gain an understanding of what works without knowing why it works. We can put that understanding to use immediately, and then tell ourselves we’ll figure out the details later.
In the Age of Intelligence, while machine learning presents lots of problems and gets things wrong和画线词后的argue that they shouldn’t be blindly followed可知,我们不应该盲目地遵循系统的预测,这说明我们要对系统作出的预测保持谨慎。

“Five Reasons to Thank Your Workout Partner.” One reason was: “You’ll actually show up if you know someone is waiting for you at the gym,”可知,此处阐述了感谢健身搭档的理由。
由此段第一句中的decide what you want from that person可知,此段主要讲要根据自己的需求寻找健身搭档。
If you plan on working out in a gym, that person must belong to the same gym.

Exercise 1
5.F 根据设空处前的have different skills和此段段末的to help each other可知,虽然你和健身搭档之间可能有差异,但仍可以互相帮助。F项(接受你们的差异并学会相互合作)承接上文,符合语境,本段中的different skills和help each other与F项中的accept your differences和work with each other为同义复现。故选F项。

A tradesman was leading a motorcade (车队) to another country to sell his goods. Along the way they came to the edge of a sand desert. They learnt that during the daytime the sun heated up the fine sand until it was as hot as charcoal (木炭), so no one could walk on it—even camels! Then the motorcade leader hired a desert guide, the one who could follow the stars, so they could travel only at night when the sand cooled down. The guide sat on the first cart. And they began the dangerous night time journey across the desert. During a couple of nights, after eating their evening meal and waiting for the sand to cool, they started out again and again.
Later one night, the desert guide, who was driving the first cart, learnt from the stars that they were getting close to the other side of the desert. He had been very tired, so when he relaxed, he fell asleep. Then the camels which, of course, couldn’t tell directions by reading the stars, gradually turned to the side and went in a big wide circle until they ended up at the same place that they started from! By then it was morning, and the people woke up and realised they were back at the same spot where they started. They lost heart and began to cry about their condition.
