A holiday on a mountain bike can be really exciting. As you ride along, problems are forgotten, and you can get healthy at the same time! It’s a great way to see the country and you can stop whenever to walk along the way. You’d be surprised how far you can travel in two weeks. When you go by bike you can take routes (线路) a car couldn’t, so you’ll find that your journey goes up and down hills, through forests and across valleys…much more interesting than a motorway! Like most sports, mountain biking isn’t dangerous but you should have the right equipment (装备). It’s important to wear a helmet and suitable clothing, and to choose a route that’s up to your health conditions. It’s also quite cheap, because once you’ve bought the bike (you can find good bargains in second-hand markets and on the Internet), very little extra money is needed, except for regular maintenance of the bike. Anyway, it’s always worth it!
Some technical (技术的) knowledge is useful, however, if you are thinking of doing a long journey. You should be prepared to make minor repairs. For example, you might have to change a tyre, or repair the brakes and there will be other small problems during a trip. Most of this knowledge can be found in a good bike repair book. Of course, if you don’t have these skills, it doesn’t mean you can’t go on any long trips. Perhaps you could go with someone who is good at mending things!
One other important piece of equipment is a First Aid kit. It’s more possible for you to get small cuts and bruises than major injuries, but even the best bike-riders fall off sometimes. It’s all part of the experience!

Please sit down and enjoy your meal.Just don't talk about it.
These are the requirements at a popular dining party that is known as "silent dinners".It encourages people who take part in the dining party not to speak for one to two hours and not to use electronic devices.Instead, the idea is to just on the food.
"Silent dinner parties are fast growing," said Honi Ryan, who has hosted 32 silent dinner parties in 11 cities across eight countries, including Germany,Australia and the United States."The way we communicate is changing so fast that we need to stop and think about it."
According to a 2013 nationwide survey, restaurant noise came in second only to poor service among customer(顾客) complaints. And 19 percent of diners who took part in the survey said noise and crowds disturbed them most while eating out.
Though silent dinners may seem curious, the idea is not a new one.Yogis(瑜伽信徒) have long enjoyed silent meals as part of a deepened practice. In fact,it was a trip to a temple(寺庙) in India by a man that encouraged one Brooklyn restaurant recently to add a silent dinner to its event programming.
"We'll make a small speech at the beginning of the meal to make sure everyone understands what is happening and ask them not to speak or use their mobile phones for at least an hour," said EAT Greenpoint owner Jordan Colon. And background music will be turned off, too.
"It's funny;when I first opened EAT,I didn't play music for some time and people had very different reactions(反映) to that," said Colon."Some people who come out to eat are ready to party, but it was so quiet without music. But I wanted to create an environment that makes you relaxed."
Although personal reactions to a silent dinner may be various,in general they are more likely to get into a lot of talk afterwards, said Ryan."At the end of the night people always have a lot to say about silence. But the most reaction is that there is always a good laugh."

I’ve been interested in languages for as long as I can remember. My dad was a language genius(天才). My family traveled widely when I was a child, and my dad would talk to everyone we met easily. His abilities greatly impressed me. I hoped that I would someday be able to speak as many languages as he could.
I wasn’t a natural language learner. When I was 11 years old, I made little progress in French at school and almost gave it up. After I entered college, I read many German writers in translation. I loved them so much that I wanted to read them in their mother language. This drove me to pick up German. After I mastered German, I found myself in love with languages. Since then, I have never stopped learning new languages. By my late twenties, I was able to speak French, Latin and Greek.
I’m often asked what my secret is. The answer is endless hours of reading and studying. Before I got married, I would spend 16 hours every day studying languages. I used to like walking fast outdoors while listening to a recording of language and repeating it out loud.
Now, I can read about 40 languages and speak most of them well. Asian languages are more difficult to master. It took me almost ten years to get my Korean skills close to native(母语的)level. I live in Singapore now. At home, I speak French with my sons. If my Korean wife is there, we’ll use English. When we don’t want the kids to understand our conversations, we use Korean.
I’ve studied Esperanto(世界语). I think the world will be a less interesting place if there is only one language. It is like visiting a garden where there is only one type of plant!

The next generation of barcodes, such as QR codes, can hold more information. “ They can tell consumers if a product contains allergens (过敏原) or if it is organic (有机的) .
