第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
In the spring of my career, I found myself questioning the choice of my life’s work. The students did not appear to be motivated; the paperwork was overwhelming (巨大的) and the constant changes of educational direction were discouraging. But I just could not bring myself to do anything else. “Next year,” I would say, “next year I will switch jobs, make more money and have far less stress.” Next year just never came. I am now in my forties. And while I am no longer in the classroom or at the schoolhouse, I remain an educator. It finally dawns on me that there is no other profession that will let me change children’s minds and have an impact on their future. For every student that finally “got it”, for every new teacher that said, “You inspired me to stay,” I get the raise that has never quite made it to my paycheck.
I was on a plane recently and the flight attendant asked my name. When I told him, he said, “I knew that was you! You taught at my elementary school. You made me take my cap off in the building and told me I was handsome.” He then paused and said, “I think I kept my hat on until you saw me, just so I could get that compliment (赞美). Thank you for making me feel special.”
We have now entered an age where nothing is private and secrets are hard to keep. Your “friends” are counted by simply clicking a button. Face-to-face interactions are seen by many as unnecessary and time-consuming. Of course, we can do anything online, including teaching and learning. But I guess I am just old school. I want to look into your eyes when the answer finally dawns on you.

49. What could be the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To make a summary of her teaching career.
B. To express her views on the Internet.

It is now known that babies are beginning to learn even before they are born. Parents all expect their children to be the best that they can be. Now we’d like to provide some experiences to help them reach their potential.
Take an active role in your children’s development by using our easy skill-building activities. Click on the following links to find dozens of ways for you to help them develop well.
When they discuss children’s development, educators usually talk about physical, mental, social, and emotional development. How Children Develop is a quick lesson about how children develop and the stages they go through. Learning it will help you understand what stage they are in and what comes next. There are different learning styles. By recognizing children’s learning styles, we make it easier for them to learn.
For a greater understanding of stages in the development, read Ready to Learn. You can use that information to help your child do the activities which will enable him/her to progress smoothly to the next stage. Always remember that some children progress faster than others and that the time spent in stages does not reflect their intelligence. They may have a personality which needs to move slower in order to enjoy life and really internalize (内化) their learning.
The two most important things you can do for your children are to love them and to read to them every day. Buy books. Borrow from the library. Read newspaper or magazine articles. Let them see and hear what you read. For suggestions, see our Recommended Books. For families with two or more children near the same age, here is an idea that has worked well in Jindrich’s home. Try the Big Cheese Program. You will be surprised how well it works.
50. If you want to understand what stage your kids are in, you’d better go to _____.
A. How Children Develop B. Ready to Learn
C. Recommended Books D. the Big Cheese Program
51. Some children progress not so fast as others probably because _____.
A. they don’t have a good personality
B. they are not as clever as others
C. they don’t spend much time in learning
D. they need more time to take in what they’ve learned
52. The Big Cheese Program _____.
A. is fit for all kinds of children B. has proved to be very good
C. recommends us many kinds of books
D. is about early education at school

All of the time 20-year-old Mike Musso is running on the beach. He grew up at the Jersey Shore and now works there as a lifeguard, aiming to run his first marathon this fall in Philadelphia. He considers running on the water’s edge a necessary part of his training. He has good reasons to use the sand to make him run faster. But beach running isn’t easy.
“It’s like running with weights on your ankles,” said Dr. Lejeune of St. Luke’s University. “With or without shoes, it’s harder to get your feet planted into the sand, and it’s harder to get your feet up off the sand. Running on sand requires 1.6 times the energy that running on a hard surface requires and your body has to work harder.”
“Our muscles perform more mechanical work when we run or walk on sand than on a hard surface,” Dr. Lejeune said. Your feet have to work harder and the muscles can’t work efficiently. However, he said, while sand running can cause extra aches and pains for those who aren’t used to it, these side effects aren’t necessarily a bad thing and can translate into higher speeds. Indeed, beach running can be a form of speed training, especially in areas where hills — a typical speed training choice — are scarce (稀少的).
Early this year, Mike won the two-mile North Wildwood Sandblast Beach Run. He’ll soon run his longest race — the Wild Half. It’ll be a test to see if his training has worked and will allow him to make adjustments leading into the Philadelphia Marathon.
“I’ve been getting faster year by year. I like using a lot of really good resources around here, including that free one, the sand,” he said.
53.What’s the reason why Mike Musso keeps running on the beach?
A. Because he is required to do it by his employer.
B. Because he thinks it is an effective way to keep healthy.
C. Because he has to go to work by running on the beach.
D. Because he wants to train for the Philadelphia marathon.
54. Why is running on sand not easy according to Paragraphs 2 and 3?
A. Because it’s difficult for us to breathe easily when we run on sand.
B. Because running on sand often brings us pains and aches.
C. Because people usually run on sand without wearing shoes.
D. Because it’s difficult for our muscles to fun_ction well enough.
55. Which of the following is true in the view of Dr. Lejeune?
A. Beach running does great harm to our health.
B. Few people can get used to running on sand.
C. Running on sand is easier than running on a mountain.
D. Running on sand can help you run faster on hard land.
56. What does the underlined word “here” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. A hill. B. Philadelphia.
C. The Jersey Shore. D. North Wildwood.
D
At the Boatkhali Kadambini Primary School on the Sagar Island in Sunderbans, classes stopped for five or six days each, twice a month, during June to August. Sea water invaded the classrooms to a height of one and a half feet, making teaching impossible.
“It recedes (退潮) after two—three hours, but it happens twice a day for a few days, so no classes are possible,” a teacher said.
There’s no doubt that the finger of global warming is beginning to press harder. Studies suggest that sea level rise, which was little over 3mm a year between 1985 and 2000, increased during the first decade of this century to a surprising 12mm a year.
The combined effects of these factors, human and natural, have meant for tens of thousands, the abandonment of agricultural land and forced migration. All along the coast in G-Plot, Sagar, Ghoramara and other islands of Sunderbans, many families are being forced to set up homes elsewhere.
It is an ongoing process as people leave for more inland parts of the Sagar Island or migrate to join the labouring poor in Kolkata to do construction work. Others prefer to stay there and change occupations to fishing so as to avoid having to migrate. Many farmers end up as labourers.
Sunderbans confirms one of the tragic ironies (讽刺) of global warming: those least responsible for it end up as its greatest victims.
Climate scientist James has been writing for years that in the 21st century sea level rise will occur at an accelerating pace. We are talking about sea level rise this century that would be somewhere between 5 to 15 times the rise we’ve had thus far.
57. Why did classes at the Boatkhali Kadambini Primary School stop?
A. To give students more holidays. B. To avoid the bad weather.
C. To make repairs to the classrooms.
D. To avoid invading sea water.
58. What do we know about the people who choose to stay on the Sagar Island?
A. They still live on farming. B. They have to change their jobs.
C. They are forced to migrate. D. They have been out of work.
59. What attitude does the author have towards the people on the Sagar Island?
A. Uncaring. B. Sympathetic. C. Optimistic. D. Appreciative.
60. Which of the following could be the best title for the text?
A. Several factors that contribute to sea level rise
B. What resulted in global warming and climate change
C. The effects of climate change on people on the Sagar Island
D. Humans will pay a high price for their actions sooner or later
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从下框的A-F选项中选出能概括每一段主题的最佳选项,选项中有一项为多余项。
A. Improve your life.
B. Be willing to learn.
C. Record your progress.
D. Choose a life of growth.
E. Start your growth today.
F. Focus on self-development.
Five steps to develop your personal growth
How or what can you do to develop yourself into a better person? The answer is your personal growth. It may sound hard, but you can make it simple if you follow the following steps.
61.
Why do you want to do this? You want to do this because only you can make the decision that you want to be a better one. You have the choice to choose the path of growth that you want. Do you want to grow a little or do you want to grow a lot? That is the question. To improve your life and the quality of it you have to make the decision that this is something that you want to do and then go for it.
62.
Why put off what you can do today till tomorrow? It’s time to get started for your personal success. Start the process today. There is no better time than the present to make something happen for your success. As Napoleon Hill stated, “It’s not what you are going to do, but it’s what you are doing now that counts.”
63.
There is one thing that really annoys me and that is a person who claims he want to learn and he don’t allow the teacher to teach. If you were going to be so negative and have a negative response to everything that is being taught to you, then why even attend the class? Stop, take a deep breath and empty your negative mind. Let the natural learning of today be a teachable one to you. Allow your teacher to teach you.
64.
As time goes on, we tend to turn to other things without finishing some of the things that we have started. This is not good. You have to focus on your self-development first. You keep running, trying to fulfill a void (空虚感) and not even knowing what the void is in your life. Develop your inner being first and then you can continue fulfilling your desires.
65.
Evolution (发展) happens every time you pass a test. Keeping a diary or a journal is a helpful strategy to monitor your self-growth. Not only does record keeping give you something to look back on, it also gives you a sense of achievement. Every time you write about overcoming a specific difficulty on your list, you are also affirming (肯定) your own strength.

书面表达
One possible version:
From the picture we can see that the man wants to catch the two rabbits at the same time. However, he’ll catch neither in the end. The picture shows that we should try to set one specific goal, otherwise we’ll fail in the end.
There’s no denying that setting goals is important. By setting goals you have a map to guide you to the destination you want to head for. Besides, when you set your goals, be sure that your goals are attainable. If your goal is big, you can divide it into smaller ones. You can achieve them one after another, which makes sense. Two goals will easily distract your attention, which can ruin your true goal eventually.
