在复合句中,用来修饰动词,形容词,或副词的从句---- 叫状语从句。
状语从句的种类----有九种。

1.??指“时间段”方面,三者大体可以通用。例如:

2.??指“时间点”方面,as,when可通用,但与while不通用。例如:

raining.

3.??when有时指时间先后,其意义相当于before或after。此时,与while或as不通用。例如:

总的说来,3者的功能区别大体可作如下描述:
while为主句动作的发生划定一个时间的范围;
as为主句动作的发生提供一个伴随的动作;
when为主句动作的发生规定一个特定的时间。
1)when还可用作并列连词使用,其意义是“那时、这时”,相当于and this/that time suddenly. 常用于下列句式:
① Sb. was doing … when…
② Sb. was about to do…when….
Sb. on the point of doing…when…
Sb. was going to do…when…
③ Sb. had just done …when…
④ Sb. was doing sth. when sb. was doing
