Interviewer: Thank you for coming today, Richard. Firstly, would you mind telling me why you applied for this position
Richard: Thank you for seeing me. The reason is I’ve always been interested in dealing with people and I think this job will allow me to meet lots of people.
Interviewer: Yes, in this job you will meet plenty of people. Could you tell me a bit about yourself and your previous work experience
Richard: I’m in my last year of senior high. In my previous winter and summer holidays, I travelled around Asia and did a few part-time jobs along the way.
Interviewer: I’d be interested to hear more about those jobs, if you wouldn’t mind.
Richard: Of course. In Vietnam I worked for a couple of weeks in a youth hostel, guiding visitors to local sites, and in Bali I acted as a lifeguard on the beach. Then in Thailand I worked selling food at a street stall. That was great fun.
Interviewer: I see. So, may I ask why you think you are qualified for this job
Listening material
Richard: Sure. Firstly, it’s because I am a friendly and outgoing person, eager to talk to people. What makes me happy is working hard to satisfy people. Secondly, I’d say it’s due to my travel experiences. I am a very flexible individual. Also, my previous work experience is relevant to this one.
Interviewer: I see. Now, would you explain why you chose to apply for a part-time job during holiday time
Richard: Certainly. It’s a result of my desire to make the best use of my holiday time to develop my skills. Besides, I’ve made up my mind to major in social studies in college, and the experiences would prepare me for my future college application.
Interviewer: I see. The job requires five hours a day, four days a week. Are you available to work that number of hours
Richard: Definitely.
Interviewer: OK then. Is there anything you’d like to ask about this job
Richard: Yes. May I ask... [fade out]
