14-15学年新课标高三上学期9册Unit 2测试
Class: Name: Marks: 满分(120)
第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
I had little confide ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )nce in my ability to write a whole book, though I did intuit (凭直觉感知) that my work as a firefighter was a worthy subject. And so I wrote Report From Engine Co. 82 in six months, and it went on to sell two million copies and to be translated into 12 languages. In the years that followed, I wrote three more best-sellers, and last year published a memoir (回忆录), A Song for Mary: An Irish-American Memory.
Being a writer had be ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )en far from my expectations; being a best-selling author was almost unbelievable. How had it happened I often found myself thinking about it, and feeling great surprise at it.
For me, the clearest ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )explanation is that I had found the subject I was searching for, one I felt so strongly about that the writing was a natural consequence of the passion I felt. I was to feel this same kind of passion when I began writing about firefighters and, later, when writing about my mother. These are subjects that, to me, represent the great values of human life — honesty and fairness — subjects that burn within me as I write.21·cn·jy·com
Over the year ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s, all five of my children have come to me periodically with one dilemma or another. Should I study English or art Should I go out for soccer or basketball Should I take a job with this company or that one
My answer is always ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) the same, but yet they still ask, for reassurance (安心) is a good and helpful thing. Think about what you’re feeling deep down in your stomach, I tell them, and measure the heat of the fire there, for that is the passion that will flow through your heart. Your education and your experience will guide you toward making a right decision, but your passion will enable you to make a difference in whatever you do.

It’s the s ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )tuff of nightmares — and it was sold for $119 million. Edward Munch’s masterpiece, The Scream, was put up for auction (拍卖) at Sotheby’s in New York City this evening and was sold for a record-breaking price. Mr. Munch beat out Pablo Picasso for the most expensive artwork ever auctioned.
Its owner, N ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )orwegian businessman Petter Olsen, whose father was a friend, and neighbor of Mr. Munch, sold the painting to fund (资助) a new museum in honor of Mr. Munch’s life and work.
Sotheby’s expected ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )the price to be $80 million, but $119 million beat out everyone’s wildest expectations. Mr. Picasso’s Nude, Green Leaves and Bust was sold in 2010 for just $106.5 million. The auction asking price started at $50 million for the work and lasted just 15 minutes before an unnamed telephone bidder (报价人) gave the final offer. The auction room at Sotheby’s exploded in applause.
“I have lived with ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )this work all of my life, and its power and energy have only increased with time,” owner Petter Olsen said of The Scream. “Now however, I feel the moment has come to offer the rest of the world a chance to own and appreciate this remarkable work.” The painting is one of four versions and the only one owned by private collectors; the other three paintings are housed in Norwegian museums.
With the proceeds ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) of the sale, Mr. Olsen promised to establish a new museum, art center and hotel in Hvitsten, Norway, dedicated to Mr. Munch’s work and life. It will be opened this year at the same time as Mr. Munch’s 150th anniversary and Mr. Olsen plans on restoring the artist’s home and studio, allowing guests to stay in his home.【版权所有:21教育】

When a 14-year-old b ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )oy from Atlanta, Georgia disappeared earlier this year, his mother turned to her smart phone for clues using an application called Family Tracker that helped track his location (位置). It is one of several apps that allow parents to track the whereabouts of their children.
“You can see where ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) your loved ones are without having to call or bother them,” said Roberto Franceschetti of LogSat, the creator of the Family Tracker, which has more than 100,000 users and is available worldwide. Parents can track the location of their child on a map, send messages, and even activate an alarm on the phone from a distance. “We have a choice for the sender to make a very noisy sound. It’s a loud sound and we repeat that sound every two minutes until the person picks up,” he said.
Parents don’t need ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )to own a smart phone to track their children. The service is also accessible via the Web, as long as the phone that is being tracked is running the app, which runs on an iPhone or Android devices. The Family Tracker has an additional service that keeps a file of all data generated (产生) by the app for a two-week period.21教育网

“When somebody gets ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) abducted (绑架), usually whoever does this throws the phone away or takes the battery out. We were hoping that our app would at least provide information on where the person was abducted or where they had been in the past. That way the police would have a history or some clues as to who they may have been seeing.”
But are these types o ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )f apps an invasion (侵犯) of privacy “The advantages are huge compared to the disadvantages. Let’s not forget that the person always has to give initial permission — no one can be tracked unless they allow someone to do it,” said Franceschetti.

On March 12, o ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ur class went to Mount Erlong to plant trees as planned. On arriving there, we threw ourselves into work in no time. First, we dug some holes, which were big enough to hold the roots of the trees. Then we put trees in the holes and watered them. When we got home, tired as we were, we felt it was rewarding and worthwhile.
It is well known that ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )trees play an important role on the earth. They can absorb carbon dioxide, and produce oxygen. In addition, trees can hold the soil and prevent it from being washed away or blown away. Without trees, we would suffer from horrible sand storms and more floods.
However, for many rea ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )sons, in our country, there are many bare mountains for us to afforest. Therefore, I advocate that we should take action to plant as many trees as possible.
