Healthy Habits,Healthy Body
Feeling tired lately?Has a doctor said he can't find anything wrong with you?Perhaps he sent you to a hospital, but all the advanced equipment there shows that there is nothing wrong with you.
Then,consider this:you might be in a state of subhealth(亚健康).
Subhealth, also called the third state or gray state,is explained as a borderline state between health and disease.
According to the investigation(调查)by the National Health Organization, over 45 percent of subhealthy people are middle-aged or elderly. The percentage is even higher among people who work in management positions as well as students around exam time.
Symptoms(征兆)include a lack of energy, depression(压抑),slow reactions, insomnia(失眠),agitation(焦虑),and poor memory.Other symptoms include shortness of breath, sweating and aching in the waist and legs.
The key to preventing and recovering from subhealth, according to some medical experts,is to form good living habits, alternate work and rest, exercise regularly, and take part in open-air activities.
As for meals, people are advised to eat less salt and sugar. They should eat more fresh vegetables, fruit and fish because they are rich in nutritional(营养的)elements—vitamins and trace elements(微量元素)—that are important to the body.
Nutrition experts point out that it is not good to eat too much at one meal because it may cause unhealthy changes in the digestive tract(消化道).They also say that a balanced diet is very helpful in avoiding subhealth.

Schools now are almost all connected to the Internet. But some have more technology, and use it more, than others. For example, some schools use computers for activities like video conferencing to bring the world into the classroom.
And some classrooms are equipped with things like a Smart Board,a kind of interactive(互动的)whiteboard.Interactive whiteboards are large displays for presentations. They connect to a computer and can operate by touch. They can be used for documents or writing or to project videos.
Some teachers are trying creative new ways to teach with devices like iPods and mobile phones. But educators say the most important thing,as always,is the content.
Yet technology can have special importance in some cases.Cosmobot is a therapy(治疗)robot. It stands about half a meter tall and has a blue body and a friendly face with big eyes.
One child who works with it is six-year-old Kevin Fitzgerald.Kevin has developmental dyspraxia;he has difficulty moving his mouth and tongue.
He works with Carole Semango-Sprouse as he interacts with the Cosmobot during therapy for his condition. Here,he uses a set of buttons attached to a computer to make the silent robot move forward, backward or around in circles.Kevin's mother thinks the robot has had a calming influence, helping her son get along better with his friends.
Cosmobot was developed by AnthroTronix.Corinna Lathan started the company more than ten years ago to work with children with developmental disabilities.Children become friends with the robot, she says. That can have a big effect on their behavior, helping them work harder and longer in therapy sessions.Corinna Lathan is currently working with a British company to develop other socially helpful robots. She says they are still considered research tools in the United States, and not used as much as in places like Britain and Japan. But she hopes to change that.

Dad often spoke about the experiences he had as a young man in World War Ⅱ.His favorite story, the one he told most often, was about the time he and some other soldiers captured some German prisoners of war.
Dad was part of George Patton's Third Army, Sixth Armored division that landed in Normandy on D-Day.A few days after that great battle, Dad and a few members of his unit were on patrol in the French countryside.Walking along the bush, they arrived at a clearing on a small hill at the same time two German soldiers did.Quickly, Dad and his fellow soldiers raised their guns.Outnumbered, the Germans surrendered their weapons.
“We should kill them right now,”said one member of Dad's unit. After what he'd seen at Normandy, Dad was inclined to agree. This was war, and these were enemy soldiers. But Dad hesitated. He ordered the soldiers to empty their pockets. One of the Germans held out a string of beads (珠子) and a cross.Dad took them from the soldier. The sight of the beads made him think twice. He handed them back to the man.Dad knew how to speak German, so he spoke to the man.“Pray for the war to be over, so we can all go home,”Dad said. The German was surprised.“You are not going to kill us?”Dad shook his head.“If you are not going to kill us, there are some more of us who want to surrender,”the German said.
Dad and the other American soldiers were surprised as Germans after Germans came out of their hiding place on the other side of the hill. There were 37 in all. They left behind their weapons:machine guns, heavy artillery (火炮), loaded and ready for action. If they'd killed the first two men, Dad and his partners would have been gunned down on the spot.

Ocean waters are constantly under movement. But have you thought about the forces or reasons behind their movement? Do you know how they move? An ocean current is basically defined as a horizontal movement of seawater in the ocean. Some of the factors affecting the movement of ocean currents are the rotation of planet, temperature, wind and the gravitational pull of the moon.
Why do ocean currents flow? Although there might be various reasons for the existence or flow of ocean currents, the major ones are: the sun and the rotation of the earth. The sun affects the ocean by heating the atmosphere, creating winds and moving the sea surface through friction. This tends to drag the water surface along as the wind blows over it.Secondly, it affects the ocean by altering the density of the ocean surface directly by changing its temperature and its salinity (咸度).
The rotation of the earth also tends to affect the currents through the Coriolis force. This force makes water move to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern hemisphere. It exists because the ocean water is affected by friction with the earth only at the seafloor, and because the eastward linear velocity (线速度) of the earth decreases from a maximum at the equator to zero at the poles.
The ocean currents carry a large amount of energy and this is directly related to the density of water. Many Asian, European and North American countries are currently conducting research on currents in order to assist people.
It is essential to have knowledge of the ocean currents to reduce the costs of shipping such as fuel costs. The knowledge was even more essential in the sail-ship era.A very good example of this is the Agulhas current, which long prevented Portuguese sailors from reaching India.
51.According to the passage, an ocean current ________.
A.is only affected by the rotation of planet
B.causes seawater to move in a flat and level way
C.will occur if the atmosphere is hot
D.causes seawater to move now and then
52.Ocean currents mainly have something to do with ________.
A.the rotation of the earth and the sun
B.the winds which are on the oceans
C.the gravitational pull of the moon
D.the salinity of seawater
53.What do we know about the movement of ocean currents from Paragraph 3?
A.They move from the right to the left.
B.Their speed decreases if the linear velocity of the earth increases.
C.They move from the east to the west.
D.Their directions are affected by the rotation of the earth.
54.Why do many countries carry out research on ocean currents?
A.To find out how they form.
B.To make use of the energy.
C.To affect the currents by force.
D.To check the density of water.
55.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?
A.Ocean currents do a great deal of good to sailing.

C.Mastering knowledge about ocean currents is quite important.
D.Ocean currents help to reduce the costs of shipping.

[2]Last Thursday, however,a group of doctors asked the government to remove milk from the lunch program. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine(PCRM)says,“Milk is high in sugar, high in fat and high in animal protein,”all of which have ________ health. The PCRM says there are better and healthier ways to get calcium such as eating beans, broccoli, cereals and tofu.Orange juice and soymilk that have calcium added to them also supply the nutrient.“One of the only reasons people talk about dairy,or promote(宣传)it at all,is because it is going to help build strong bones,”says Dr.Neal Barnard, president of the PCRM.But milk may not be the best way to get the calcium your body needs.
[3]Of course, calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth, but there are other things that affect your bone strength, such as genes, how much vitamin D you take in and getting an hour's worth of exercise every day.
[4]Some nutritionists disagree with the idea that milk isn't important.Keri Gans,a dietitian says,“I think it's irresponsible to take his beverage that children enjoy, especially among those who are unable to meet their nutrient needs for the day,and remove it from the lunch line.”

Dear_Denis,
I'm glad you'll come to China to learn Chinese. Chinese is very useful and interesting, and many foreigners are learning it now.
Chinese is quite different from English. First, you'd better remember as many Chinese characters as possible. Then add characters together to form words so that you could have a good study of phrases and sentence patterns. Next is communication. Watching TV and listening to the radio are good ways to practise your listening. It's important to do some reading and writing, too.
If you have any questions, please tell me. I'm willing to give you help at any time.
Looking forward to seeing you soon in China.

Remember how great exercise was when you were a little kid!Back then, racing around the playground or skipping rope for hours, you weren't thinking fitness, you were thinking entertainment. But in this age of high-tech home equipment and underused gym memberships, the simple joy of jumping rope has been forgotten. Rediscovering it will give you a total-body exercise you can find.
Although considered an excellent form of exercise, jumping rope has never gained widespread acceptance because of two fundamental reasons. First, most people recognize jumping rope as an excellent form of cardiovascular (心血管的) exercise, but they also believe that it is simply too difficult. In other words, they don't think they'll be able to continue jumping for the near 20 minutes that it takes to achieve a beneficial physical outcome. Second, many view it as somewhat boring and overly repetitive—not as something fun or enjoyable.
As a matter of fact, jumping rope can be great fun if you find a proper way to practice it. Instead of doing the usual two-foot bounce over and over again, people good at rope-jumping often change their pattern every 10 or 20 jumps. A single bounce,a double-bounce,a skip,a knee-up,side swings as well as a variety of other easy-to-learn free-style rope-jumping.
Now researchers are learning that jumping rope also prepares the brain for learning. It is an exercise allowing both brain hemispheres to perform in parallel to each other. In short, jumping rope can be a life-long activity requiring little equipment, time and space, yet leading to a much healthier life.
1.From the first paragraph we learn that________.
A.jumping rope has faded from people's memories
B.people now have more advanced equipment
C.racing around the playground was preferred
D.people now like to have exercise in a gym

A.it benefits the cardiovascular system
B.it is neither easy nor enjoyable

D.it requires little equipment, time and space
3.The first sentence in the 3rd paragraph implies_______.
A.there is only one proper way to follow
B.the usual way should not be used
C.the easiest way is always the best
D.there are many ways to follow
4.According to the researchers,jumping rope________.
A.only prepares the brain for learning
B.is suitable for students only
C.helps both brain hemispheres work together
D.can be dangerous for old people
5.What is the author's attitude towards rope jumping?

D.He is not clear about it.

句子主语I与see在逻辑上为主谓关系,应用主动形式,排除B、D两项;having done的否定形式是在前面加not,故选C。
因为题干中为tears,故用into,构成burst into tears;若选out,应为burst out crying。
knock..over意为“撞伤,撞翻”;knock off意为“撞落,撞下”。
from time to time意为“不时,有时”,符合句意。at a time每一次;on time准时;at the time在那时。
All passengers who were found injured in the accident...
regret to do 很抱歉……,根据句意选B。
alike“同样地”;likely“可能”;actively“积极地”;similarly“相似地”。

in nature本质上,事实上;in return作为回报;in fact事实上,均不得体。
15.A be about to do...when...

A
When it comes to friends, I desire those who will share my happiness, who possess wings of their own and who will fly with me. I seek friends whose qualities illuminate (照亮) me and train me up for love. It is for these people that I reserve the glowing hours, too good not to share.
When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and “too serious” about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviors. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say, “Let's start with a train whistle today.” We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were changing into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped.
When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend. He was in despair and I was in despair. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We_gave_London_to_each_other.
For almost four years I have had a remarkable friend whose imagination illuminates mine. We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, some times in a funny way, in the other's dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind. In my most interesting moments, I often think, “Yes, I must tell...” We have never met.
It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind is worth more to me than the lifetime services of psychologist, who will only fill up the healing silence necessary to those darkest moments in which I would rather be my own best friend.

B
Americans are famous for being friendly to people. Their friendships, however, tend to be shorter and more casual than friendships among people from other cultures. It is not uncommon for Americans to have only one close friend during their lifetime, and consider other “friends” to be just social acquaintances This attitude probably has something to do with American mobility and the fact that Americans dislike to be dependent on other people. They tend to “compartmentalize”(划分) friendships, having “friends at work” “friends on the softball team” “family friends” and so forth.
Because the United States is a highly active society, full of movement and change, people always seem to be on the go. In this highly_charged atmosphere, Americans sometimes seem abrupt(无礼的) or impatient. They want to get to know you as quickly as possible and then move on to something else. Sometimes, they ask you questions that you may feel very personal. No insult is intended; the questions usually grow out of their true interest or curiosity, and their impatience to get to the heart of the matter.
And the same goes for you. If you don't understand certain American behavior or you want to know more about them, do not hesitate to ask them questions about themselves. Americans are usually eager to explain all about their country or anything “American” in which you may be interested. They explain so much in fact that you may become tired of listening. It doesn't matter because Americans tend to be uncomfortable with silence during a conversation. They would rather talk about the weather or the latest sports scores, for instance, than deal with silence.
On the other hand, don't expect Americans to be knowledgeable about international geography or world affairs, unless those subjects directly involve the United States. Because the United States is geographically distant from many other nations, some Americans tend not to be aware of what goes on in other parts of the world.
6.According to the passage, Americans' attitude towards friendship is________.
A.it is unusual to have only one close friend
B.more informal than that in other countries
C.to regard all friends as only social acquaintances
D.to divide friends into several grades
7.The words “highly charged” (Paragraph 2) most probably mean________.
A.extremely expensive
B.much cheerful

D.full of mobility and change
8.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Americans know a lot about international affairs.
B.Friendships among Americans tend to be more formal.
C.Americans always seem to be on the move.
D.Americans like to cooperate with other people.
9.It can be inferred from the passage that________.
A.Americans want to take part in all kinds of activities
B.curiosity is the major characteristic of Americans
C.Americans do not know how to deal with silence
D.Americans' characters are influenced by their social and geographical environments
