There are some very good things about open education. This way of teaching allows the students to grow as people, and to develop their own interests in many subjects.Open education allows students to be responsible for their own education,as they are responsible for what they do in life. Some students do badly in a traditional classroom. The open classroom may allow them to enjoy learning. Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules. For students who worry about these things a lot,it is a good idea to be in an open classroom.

Last year,I traveled alone to visit my two daughters in New York, one of whom had recently given birth to her first child.I sat next to an older man with a long white beard and a black hat.
We had a long flight ahead of us and I thought we'd get talking.I wondered what he'd say if he knew I was a film writer though Hollywood movies sometimes didn't interest many people at present.I once wrote a film set in a Hasidic(犹太教中的哈西德派的) neighborhood, and I'd never been certain how it was received.
“Hi,”I said to the man as I sat down.A smile lit up his face. After taking off,we introduced ourselves and made some small talks. Finally he asked the question,“What do you do for a living,Robert? ”“I am a writer,”I answered.“You write what, novels or stories of some sort?”“Movies,” I answered. To my surprise, the man was very interested.
“I was in a movie once,”he said.“Really?” “A big Hollywood movie.I was an extra. It's called A Stranger Among Us.Have you heard of it? ”“I wrote that film,”I said. The older man suddenly held my hands and thanked me.He said,“That time in my life was very difficult. My wife and I didn't know how we'd pay for the rent that month. Then your movie came to our town and offered jobs for us.I wasn't the only one.We were treated well; our beliefs were respected, and the money helped us get by.You can imagine how much the movie meant to me.Is there anything I can do for you?”

Today,February twenty-ninth, is leap day. This date only appears on the calendar once every four years. But why?
Everyone knows the Earth takes three hundred sixty-five days to travel around the sun.Well, that is not exactly correct. The Earth really takes three hundred sixty-five days, five hours, forty-eight minutes and forty-six seconds to complete its orbit around the sun.
The problem for people developing calendars (日历) was what to do with the extra(额外的) five hours, forty-eight minutes and forty-six seconds.
People needed calendars to help them know when to plant crops and when to celebrate religious holidays. The ancient Greeks and Chinese had a solution(解决办法).They produced calendars that included extra months every nineteen years.
The ancient Romans had a different solution. In the year forty-six, the Roman ruler Julius Caesar made a new calendar. The Julian calendar included an extra day every four years. But there was a problem. The Julian year was just over eleven minutes longer than the cycle(循环) of the seasons. In fifteen eighty-two, Pope Gregory the Thirteenth established a new calendar to keep a better recorder of the days.Pole Gregory was the religious leader of most of Europe. He decided that years that could be divided by four would add a day. However, years that ended in two zeros and that could not be evenly(均匀地) divided by four hundred would not be leap years. For example, the years seventeen hundred, eighteen hundred and nineteen hundred were not leap years. But the years sixteen hundred and two thousand were leap years.
So leap years are years with three hundred sixty-six days, instead of the usual three hundred sixty-five.This extra day is added to the calendar on February twenty-ninth, sometimes known as leap day.People born on leap day may be called “leaplings”. They usually celebrate their birthday on February twenty-eight or March first.

(2013·师大附中高一上期中)Teenagers who spend hours in front of the television may have a poorer diet, a new study shows. It is not clear, researchers say, whether television itself is the reason, but it is possible that things like snacking in front of the TV or seeing ads for junk food influence young people's diets.
The study included nearly 1,400 high school students. It showed that those who watched TV for five hours or more every day had less healthy diets than other students five years later. As a group, they ate fewer fruits and vegetables, but ate more fast food, snack products and fried foods.
“We're not able to tell why,” lead researcher Dr. Daheia J. Barr-Anderson said. “But we have some speculation(推测).” People who spend a lot of time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may have more snacks. It may influence their long-term diet quality. It's also possible that TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks make teenagers eat more of those foods. TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids.
The researchers found a clear relationship between TV time during high school and diet quality of the young. The heaviest TV viewers ate the most junk food five years later, and those who'd watched fewer than two hours every day had the most fruits and vegetables.
According to Barr-Anderson, the findings support experts' advice that children should watch no more than two hours of television every day. “Parents should cut the TV time.” Barr-Anderson said. She advised that parents set a good example by eating right, being physically active and controlling their own TV time.

2.B 考查be worth doing。be worth doing意为“值得……
prefer to do A rather than do B意为“宁愿做A也不愿意做B”。
4.A 这是一个复杂的特殊疑问句,句中do you think为插入语,结构为“特殊疑问词+do you think/believe...+句子的其他部分(陈述语序)?”。
强调句的基本结构为:It is/was+被强调部分+that从句。 not...until...
in order that和so that后跟从句,且so that引导目的状语从句时不能置于句首。so as to和in order to后跟不定式,但是so as to不可置于句首,故选D项。
make up of“由……构成”;make good use/the most/the best of“充分利用”,故B项正确。
of my own“自己的”;on my own“单独地,独自地”。
10.B do you think作插入语成分出现在句中,故排除C、D两项;把do you think从句中去掉后,其余部分应为自然语序,故排除A项。
根据主语是none of them可知,用they作反意疑问部分的主语,再根据谓语动词由could understand构成可知,A项正确。
used to do sth.“过去常常做某事”,故第一空选用play。be used to do sth.
so did I表示前者的情况同样适用于后者;so I did表示陈述或肯定前文的内容,故本题B项正确。
concentrate on“集中注意力于”;while表示“当……

28.where 29.who/that 30.Though/Although 31.out 32.in 33.also 34.because/as 35.a
文章的开头介绍了open education可以让学生发展自己的学科兴趣,学会对自己的教育负责,“This way of teaching allows the students to grow as people, and to develop their own interests in many subjects.”
根据第一段最后“Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules. For students who worry about these things a lot,it is a good idea to be in an open classroom.”
根据第二段开头“But many students will not do well in an open classroom. For some students, there are too few rules. These students will do little in school.”
该题目可以用排除法来选择,文章的第二段最后部分讲解地很明白“some traditional teachers do not like it.Many teachers do not believe in open education.Teachers who want to have an open classroom may have many problems at their schools.”A、B、C三项都提到了,故该题应选择D项。
根据第四段中的“My wife and I didn't know how we'd pay for the rent that month. Then your movie came to our town and offered jobs for us.”
根据最后一段的“A few days later,in the church my new friend gave a blessing over my new granddaughter.”
根据首段末句中的“We finished lunch and then decided to rent a boat”可知,作者他们是吃完午饭,然后决定去划船的,因此时间是在下午。
根据第二段中的“but as soon as we changed it,the oarlock broke”可知,他们的桨架断了,致使他们无法划船,这正是他们无法返回的原因。
根据第三段首句中的“After seeing the change of weather,we shouldn't have continued to row”可知,在看到变天后,他们不应该再继续划船,其中后半个分句是虚拟语气,“should(not)+have+done”表示“本来(不)应该做某事”,因此作者认为当时不应该继续划船。
根据第三段的“the boat began to shake like a cradle”可知,他呕吐的原因是“船摇晃得太厉害了”。
51.Leap Day/ An Extra Day 52.A calendar

Dear_editor,
I'm writing to tell you about the discussion we held yesterday afternoon about health and appearance.
Opinions are divided on the topic. Those for health think that we should take activities or have food on the basic of health, and that good health is the resource of study and work. They insist that the people who own good health can be themselves easily but the people who only own beautiful appearance can't make great contributions to society, on the contrary this kind of people will be a burden of society.
But the supporters of beautiful appearance believe that only healthy body will bring nothing good to us and beautiful appearance will surely help us to be successful in study and work. They are fond of the idea that if we are good looking, we can be ourselves more easily.
As far as I'm concerned,I think there is no need to pay too much attention to our appearance as long as we are healthy.Health is the greatest wealth.
Yours_sincerely,

“Worryingly,of those who rarely or never eat lunch,27 percent also never eat breakfast during the working week,”said Ipsos Mori researchers in a statement.
The survey, commissioned by food service company Baxter Storey, estimated skipping breakfast cost companies 8.1 billion pounds or 46.5 million lost working days, with many studies finding a link between eating breakfast and attention span, learning ability and general well-being.
When other poor eating habits such as having no breakfast and lunch or having no breakfast and snacks, are included, lost productivity rocketed to nearly 17 billion pounds.

“People who eat breakfast have better concentration, problem solving ability, mental performance, memory and mood. People who eat breakfast are also more physically energetic and have better coordination (协调),”said nutrition specialist Matt Barker.
“Research tells us that scores on memory tests were about 15 percent lower in people who skipped breakfast. And those who skip it tend to eat sugary, fatty foods later in the day, reducing their productivity.”

(2012·衡阳八中高一上期中)With an obese (very fat) or overweight population of 66% percent of adults, teaching your kids healthy eating habits is one of the most important things you can do for them as a parent.
Most parents and children claim that breakfast is part of their everyday routines. But for many more than you might think, it's not. Children who eat breakfast have higher math grades, have improved reading scores and basically perform better in school. They also tend to have healthier bodies in general, with better-controlled weight levels.
When you take them to the grocery store with you, it's doubtless that your children will request the most sugar-filled, fat-injected products on the shelf. But these are not the ones to have in your home—you should avoid buying them at all. Be sure your kids have healthy snacks.
Yes, kids like white bread. But any kid can get used to the taste of whole grains. It just takes a little practice. Look for white bread, and add other whole grains into their diet. Start toasting their sandwiches. When it's toasted, it'll be that much harder for them to tell the difference in taste.
It's simple, it's true, and it's something you already know: kids who get plenty of exercise are healthier kids. Set limits on the amount of time your child may spend in front of the television or computer screen. Sign them up for plenty of sports and outdoor activities. And best of all, get involved in sports and exercise with them.
One of the best things you can do to establish healthy eating habits in your kids is to have them yourself. You can tell your kids every day to eat healthy foods, but if you don't do the same thing yourself, the lesson will never stick.

as a matter of fact“事实上”;so far“迄今为止”;in other words“换句话说”;at all“根本,全然”。
in no time“不久,很快,马上”,符合句意。at no time“决不”;at a time“一次,每次”;at one time“曾经,一度”。
7.D a large amount of后接不可数名词;a great deal后应有of;a large number of后接可数名词复数;C项应该是plenty of。

The story of tea began over four and a half thousand years ago. According to a Chinese fairy story, in 2737 BC the Chinese Emperor, Shen Nung, scholar and herbalist, was sitting under a tree while his servant boiled drinking water. A leaf from the tree dropped into the water and Shen Nung decided to try it. The tree was a wild tea tree.
From the earliest times tea was known for its properties as a healthy and refreshing drink. By the third century AD many stories were being told and some wrote about tea and the benefits of tea drinking, but it was not until the Tang Dynasty that tea became China's national drink and the word “cha” was used to describe tea.
Tea drinking has been practiced throughout the world for hundreds of years from the imperial court of ancient China to the Russian tea room, from the Japanese tea ceremony to British village tea shops.
Tea is a naturally refreshing drink and it has no calories, so it's the perfect drink to keep you looking good and feeling fit. When taken with milk, four cups of tea a day can provide you with significant amounts of the following nutrients: about 17% of the recommended intake for calcium, 5% for zinc, 22% for Vitamin B2, 5% for Vitamin B, especially Vitamins B1 and B6.
