Many teenagers feel that the most important people in their lives are their friends. They believe that their family members don't know them as well as their friends do.In large families,it is quite often for brothers and sisters to fight with each other and then they go to their friends for some ideas.
It is very important for teenagers to have one good friend or a group of friends.Even when they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking among themselves on the phone. This communication(交际)is very important in children's growing up,because friends can talk about something, and these things are difficult to say to their family members.
However, parents often try to choose friends for their children. Some parents may even stop their children from meeting their good friends.Have you ever thought of the following questions?
Who choose your friends?Do you choose your friends or your friends choose you?Have you got a good friend your parents don't like?
Your_answers_are_welcome.

While most high school students spend most of their time worrying about who likes who,and different relationships between their classmates,I choose to focus on my school lessons and sports.
When I was young,my mother encouraged me to develop and keep friendship with boys in order to build strong relationships. But she told me not to risk a good friendship with a boy with the title of boyfriend. It's indeed a wise choice to stay friends with those of the opposite sex.In my opinion, even though some high school relationships might continue after graduation, the probability of them lasting much longer is so slim that there really is not a point to it.
Firstly you have to think about such a question-whether it is possible to hurt both of you,or even hurt both of your future husbands or wives. My second point is that you still can date if you hope marriage could possibly follow.Except this, there really is not any other reason for dating. Some students desire relationships for a chance to be romantic. While these are nice to have, there are many more important things at this point in our lives.
The titles of boyfriend and girlfriend put too much stress on a relationship between high school students.Just staying as common friends may be the best choice for us.I strongly recommend we should deal with it in an appropriate way and follow our teachers' advice if necessary.

Attendance:
We ask that you please contact the office at 480 472 5282 if your child is going to be absent.
Renaissance Reading:
The Accelerated Reader (AR) Program is a computerized reading enrichment program that combines great children's literature with computer skills. As an individualized(个性化的) reading program, it is designed to motivate students to read more and to read good literature. Students of different abilities can use this program. It is not a competitive program but one that improves any student's reading ability.
Here is how it works. Students select books in their reading range from our Accelerated Reader Selection and read it at their own pace, Once the student has completed the book, he/she is ready to take an AR quiz. Each quiz consists of 5, 10, or 20 multiple choice comprehensive questions about the book.
After taking the quiz, the computer shows the student how many questions he/she answered correctly, shows the correct answers for missed questions, and praises the students' efforts with an on-screen personalized message. Passing the quiz assures the teacher and the parent that the child actually read and understood the book. Each student tests independently—reading the quiz questions himself/herself.
The computer keeps track of reading points, books, and average test scores, as well as other data. A student may test on a book only once and should, therefore, have thoroughly read and understood the contents before taking the quiz. Each student is responsible for reading the screen to be sure the quiz, by title and author, is the correct one he/she wishes to take.
Students are recognized for their accomplishments with praise from the teachers and special recognition at the classroom level when individual and/or classroom goals are met.

In America, after middle school comes high school, which includes grades 9 through 12. Students are required to take certain subjects like English, social studies, math, science, and physical education. In addition, they choose among elective(可选修的) subjects to complete their high school education. Electives include subjects in technology, music, art, and foreign languages.
Each student in the school has their own locker for books and personal items, which saves students from carrying textbooks, and allows students a small space they can decorate with posters and favorite objects.
Cheating in any form is strictly prohibited in American schools. And in fact, a student caught in plagiarism(剽窃) faces serious punishment.
Each school holds certain activities for the entire school body, such as homecoming, prom(正式舞会) night, holiday celebrations, etc.
While homecoming is celebrated differently at each school, it usually includes a parade and the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen, and ends with a football game and school dance. The prom is a formal dance for students in Grades 11 and 12, and is generally accepted as the most important social event of the school year. It can also be a time of anxiety, as boys have to work up the courage to ask a date to the prom, and girls hope the right boy invites them.
Most high schools have at least one sports team that competes in local events, and all students are encouraged to take part in sports.
Many high school students have part-time jobs by the age of 15 or 16, some even earlier. Their first jobs are often babysitting or cutting lawns, but later they will likely get a job at a fast-food restaurant, video store, or clothing shop.
Sixteen years old is the legal driving age in most states, and students usually want to own a car as soon as they can. Many teenagers feel it's a necessity to own a car, and will do whatever it takes to be able to drive.

There has been much disagreement over children's education in recent years. One of the questions is whether children benefit more from boarding(寄宿) at schools or from going to day schools and staying with their parents after school. It is becoming a matter of concern for more and more people, especially for parents with only one child.
The people who are in favour of children going to boarding schools point out that a boarding school is an ideal place for building up children's independence, which they seldom learn from their parents at home. Children who have the experience of going to boarding schools will come up with their own ways to problems they meet with instead of turning to their parents or others for help. What's more, these children usually enjoy team work than the little emperors' in many one-child families. They are generally more used to competing with others and will find it easier to fit modern society, which is full of competition when they grow up.
On the other hand, those who are against children going to boarding schools argue that boarding schools are usually much more expensive than ordinary day schools. Usually children from rich families gradually develop a sense of pride toward those from other families. And children at boarding schools have less time to be with their parents, which may lead to a gap between them and weaken family ties.

be fond of doing sth./enjoy doing sth.“喜欢做某事”。
4.A take charge of“管理,负责”。
6.C for free“免费地”,freely“自由地,慷慨地,坦率地”。
7.A make use of“利用”,use提到前面作先行词,make of改为定语从句的形式。we make of the used paper这个定语从句中,省去了关系代词which或者that。
challenging“具有挑战性的”;average“平均的,普通的”;expensive“昂贵的”;extra“额外的”。
9.B on/upon(doing)sth.
used to do sth. be used to do表示“被用来……”;be(get)used to sth.,be used to doing sth.
11.A come up with“提出”;put up with“忍受”;keep up with“跟上,与……保持一致”;look up to“尊敬”。
12.B require sb.that结构中,that从句中谓语动词用should do,should可省略。inform sb.of/about sth.
no more than“仅仅”,nothing but“只不过”,not more than“不超过”,都不合题意。
make sb. do “让某人做……”,符合句意。

文章第一段提到“While most high school students spend most of their time...”,再结合最后一段可知,文章的写作对象是high school students。
文中第二段提到“the probability of them lasting much longer is so slim that there really is not a point to it”,由此可知在高中发展男女朋友关系是不会长久的,即普通朋友关系比男女朋友关系能更持久、更稳固。
文中倒数第二段提到“While these are nice to have, there are many more important things at this point in our lives.”,作者认为此时还有更重要的事情去做,比如学习。
由第一段的you can see our website which is printed on the cover.
We ask that you please contact the office at 480 472 5282 if your child is going to be absent.

Many Chinese students think American students enjoy more freedom than them at school. But American schools also have their rules. If the students break the rules, they will get punishment, too.
On the first day of a new term, 128 students of Morton High School were sent home for wearing the wrong clothes. There are altogether 1200 students in the school. Usually only 20 students break the school dress rule every day. So the headmaster Theresa Mayerik said it was the worst new term she had ever seen.
At Morton High School, students' favorite clothing such as baggy(宽大的)trousers, low-necked shirts and tanktops(紧身短背心)are not allowed in classrooms. It's school time again! You're probably feeling excited and maybe a little sad as summer is over. Some kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and even a new school. Luckily, these “new” worries only stick around for a little while. Let's find out more about going to a new school.
Most teachers kick_off the new school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the things you'll be doing that year. Some teachers give students a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class, too. When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often go over classroom rules and school rules so you'll know what's allowed and what's not. Please pay close attention.
You might already know a lot of people in your classes on the first day, but it's a great day to make new friends, so try to say hello to kids you know and new ones that you don't. Make the first move and you'll be glad you did, and so will your new friends!
Seeing friends you haven't seen for a while can make the first day a good one. You can make the day feel special by wearing clothes that you really like. Maybe you got a great T-shirt on one of your vacations, or a pair of sneakers(运动鞋). It also can make you feel good to be prepared and have all the things you need, such as pencils, folders, and whatever else you'll be needing. But make sure that you pack them the night before in case you don't have time in the morning.
6.Why do some students feel sad when they return to school?
A.Because they have to meet their teachers.
B.Because they will meet new things at school.
C.Because they can no longer play as they did in the summer vacation.
D.Because they miss their friends and teachers.
7.According to the passage you usually do everything on the first day of school except________.

“A school without a newspaper is a school without a student voice.” This is the motto of the Webster Stanley Elementary WAVE:the first elementary school newspaper in Wisconsin. The WAVE is an innovative, student-based program at Webster Stanley Elementary School designed to foster real literacy opportunities for students as well as civic engagement. It centers on teaching students to research, to write, to edit, and to produce photographs and other art works into a professionally printed newspaper. Although the students work with two advisors, the students themselves produce and edit the newspaper.
The WAVE began in the fall of 2005. The newspaper name was selected by an all school vote. The masthead(报头) was designed by Derrick Reese, one of the two cartoonists on the staff. The staff of 24 is comprised mainly of fourth and fifth graders who must apply with a written application form that includes samples of their work. The process is highly competitive with over 70 applications the first year. Webster Stanley students work with mentors(导师) at the Northwestern and use their computers and presses to produce a four-page newspaper, four times a school year. In addition, the Gannett Foundation has contributed $1,000 for each year to help defray costs for the WAVE. It costs approximately $ 500 per issue to print with a run of 1,000 copies. In the fall of 2005, Jonathan Gibson, a fourth grader, assumed a new position as business manager. His job is to raise money to support the WAVE. Through his efforts, mainly by presentations and business letters, Gibson has raised approximately $ 1,500 for the paper.

Teaching kids to fish sometimes puzzles us parents. Now I'd like to give you a few tips.
First of all, start them young.
Get them in a boat, or on a pier(码头), or on the bank at as young an age as you possibly can. Obviously this means being extremely conscious about their safety. Whatever you do, DON'T plan on any fishing yourself. If fishing is going to happen, the fishing will be done by the kids with your help! This lets you pay attention to them and not ignore them while you fish.
Next, make sure you plan the first trips to someplace where you can actually catch a lot of fish. At this point, it doesn't matter what kind or how big, just make sure they can catch some. A small child's patience is very short, and waiting 30 minutes for a bite will turn them off in a hurry. You may need to go to a small pond where the fish are dying to eat bread balls. Any type of fish will do. Remember, this is for them, not for you.
As they fish, cheer for every fish they catch. Make a really big deal out of it. Take pictures. And if it's possible, take some home to clean. Let the child help you clean with a table knife, so he (or she) can't get hurt.
Make sure he makes and sees the connection from catching to cleaning to cooking. As soon as you have the fish cleaned, it's into the kitchen to start cooking. Make them flour and cornmeal the fish. Let them see the fish cooking, and talk about how good they are. Then when it's ready, make sure you brag(吹嘘) on the fact that they caught these fish, and “aren't they good?”
In this way, I'm sure your kids will be interested in fishing and good at fishing.

Are you scared about moving up to senior high school? It can be a new experience, but you shouldn't worry. We've put together a guide on how to survive the first week.
You're not alone
Remember everybody_else_in_your_year_is_in_the_same_boat. They may not realize it, but they're just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high is an opportunity, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and learn the new rules.
Teachers are ready to help!
If you're unsure what to do or are worried about anything then you had better ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they're experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. They will look out for you and help you if you have any problems or questions.
All change
There are lots of differences between junior high school and senior high school. You'll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects.
Other points
If you've got an older brother or sister at the school then ask them for advice.
Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally.
Having early nights makes a difference and you'll find it easier to get up in the morning!

①keeping a homework diary ②making a plan
③keeping a copy of school timetable ④getting yourself organized ⑤going to classrooms half an hour before the classes

A couple from Miami, Bill and Simone Butler, spent sixty-six days in a life-raft(救生艇) in the seas of Central America after their boat sank.
Twenty-one days after they left Panama in their boat, Simony, they met some whales(鲸鱼). “They started to hit the side of the boat,” said Bill, “and then suddenly we heard water.” Two minutes later, the boat was sinking. They jumped into the life-raft and watched the boat go under the water.
For twenty days they had tins of food, biscuits, and bottles of water. They also had a fishing-line and a machine to make salt water into drinking water—two things which saved their lives. They caught eight to ten fish a day and ate them raw(生的). Then the line broke. “So we had no more fish until something very strange happened. Some sharks(鲨鱼) came to feed, and the fish under the raft were afraid and came to the surface. I caught them with my hands.”
About twenty ships passed them, but no one saw them. After fifty days at sea their life-raft was beginning to break up. Then suddenly it was all over. A fishing boat saw them and picked them up. 2.C Though he was surprised to see us,...。
be supposed to do sth.
can't wait to do sth.

be hard on是固定短语,意为“对……严厉,对……苛刻”;mean当“打算”讲时,应接不定式作宾语,故选B。
10.A 句意:他受不了这样被对待。tolerate后接v.-ing形式,符合句意。
11.A 本题考查动词短语辨析。句意为“我们转败为胜了”。turn...into...
