A
Karyn Langhorne of Washington, DC, was shocked when her 8-year-old daughter, Sierra, asked her if she was getting fat. “She was wearing a two-piece bathing suit and had pinched_up a little roll of skin on her stomach,” says Langhorne.
Sierra's not alone in her worry. Body-image matters are ordinary in preteen girls, and boys worry about how they look, too. In fact, recent research from the National Eating Disorders Association shows that 42 percent of kids in first through third grade wish they were thinner. Since you can't guard your child wholly from the images of super-thin women on TV and elsewhere that often raise those “Am I fat?” questions, here's what you can do if she starts to worry about her weight.
Probe a little. Sometimes girls say they dislike their bodies when they're actually trying to express worry about the changes of teenage years. By saying “What don't you like about it?” or “Really? Why is that?” you can get to the heart of the matter and be better able to help her feel more confident.
Avoid just waving away her worry. It'll make her feel like you're not listening if you only say “But you're not fat!” Even if her words seem unreasonable, let her get them out, and then tell her why you think she's beautiful just as she is.
Stress good health, not weight. If your daughter isn't satisfied with talking or says she wants to start a diet, offer to speed-walk, swim, or go biking with her instead—but don't involve a scale of food restrictions in any of it. Explain that you're joining her exercise efforts not because you agree that she needs to be smaller, but because it's a good way to take care of her body.
Check your message. You may not be telling your child that she should watch her weight, but does she often hear you say you feel fat or wish you wore a smaller size? Remember what a powerful role model you are to your daughter—and consider her your best reason not to stress over your own extra pounds.
36.The underlined words “pinched up” in Paragraph 1 probably means________.
A.to become much larger in quantity or amount
B.to press you because something you are wearing is too tight
C.to look thin and unhealthy
D.to look fat and healthy
37.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Sierra is a fat girl.
B.Only girls worry about how they look.
C.Most kids in first through third grade wish they were thinner.
D.There are many thin women on TV.
38.We can infer from the passage that________.
A.if your daughter wants to go on a diet, you should help her
B.what a powerful role model you are to your daughter
C.removing the kids' worry is the most important
D.you should not be telling your child that she should watch her weight
39.The whole passage is mainly about________.
A.the fact that body-image matters are ordinary in preteen girls and boys
B.the research from the National Eating Disorders
Association
C.tips on what to say when your kid asks if she or he looks fat
D.the way to stress healthy diet

For centuries, the body's blood has been linked closely with the emotions. People who show no human emotions or feelings, are said to be cold-blooded. For example, the police are searching for a cold-blooded killer. He seemed to kill for no reason, and with no emotion,as if taking someone's life as nothing.
Cold can affect other parts of the body. The expression “get cold feet” has nothing to do with cold or your feet. The expression means being afraid to do something you have decided to do. For example, you agree to be president of an organization. But then you learn that all the other officers have resigned, and all the work of the organization will be your responsibility. You are likely to get cold feet about being president when you understand the situation.
The expression “give someone the cold shoulder” probably comes from the physical act of turning your back toward someone, instead of speaking to him face to face. You may give a cold shoulder to a friend who has not kept a promise he made to you,or to someone who has lied about you to others.
A cold fish is not a fish. It is a person. But it is a person who is unfriendly, unemotional and shows no love or warmth. A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone. Someone who is a cold fish could be cold-hearted. Now a cold-hearted person is someone who has no sympathy. Several popular songs in recent years were about cold-hearted men or cold-hearted women who, without feelings, broke the hearts of their lovers.
“Out in the cold” means not getting something that everybody else got. A person might say that everybody but him got a pay raise—he was left out in the cold. And it is not a pleasant place to be.
40.There are________expressions related to cold that are mentioned in the passage.
A.3 B.4 C.6 D.7
41.When you refuse to speak to a man and treat him in a distant way,you may express by “________”.
A.I give him the cold shoulder
B.I think he is a cold-blooded man
C.I think he is a cold fish
D.I'm likely to get cold feet
42.If Sue shows absolutely no reaction to those awful pictures of starving children in Africa, you will say________.
A.she is a cold-blooded killer
B.she gets cold feet
C.she is a cold fish
D.she is out in the cold
43.The topic of this passage is about________.
A.the relationship between cold and our body
B.some expressions about friendship
C.some expressions connected with cold
D.how cold weather comes into being

Celia was shocked. She had always been in good shape during high school, but now,in her first year of college, she was suddenly ten pounds heavier.“My friends and I often had pizza or ice cream when we studied late at night,”she said,“and I was always drinking Coke to stay awake.”
Celia's experience is common. Many students enter college and find it so different that they cannot deal with changes properly. They're away from their parents and in a new stressful environment.Pressures together with freedom to sleep and eat, whatever they please, cause many students to experience the“Freshman 15”:gaining weight suddenly in their freshman year of college.
Most students do not realize that the“Freshman 15”can cause some serious health problems.Of course,college-age adults are still developing bone mass,so gaining some weight is normal.Sudden weight gain, however, puts too much strain(负担)on the heart and lungs, resulting in little energy and some difficulty in thinking and remembering. In later life,it can lead to heart disease, diabetes(糖尿病),obesity(肥胖症),and possibly cancer.
The solution to the“Freshman 15”is simple-pay attention to developing good habits! In general:
●Eat normal-sized meals at regular times.Eat slowly and enjoy it,so you don't need to go back for more.
●Keep only healthy snacks in your room-and don't snack too often!
●Control drinking and smoking.Alcohol has a lot of calories, and smoking too much makes exercise difficult.
●Exercise regularly!Even just 30 minutes a day-such as walking quickly to class from your dorm-will make a big difference!
44.What happened to Celia in her first year of college?
A.She had sleep problems.
B.She put on weight suddenly.
C.She always studied late.
D.She went on a diet so as to keep in good shape.
45.What do many students think of their freshman year of college?
A.They find it quite different.
B.They find it not quite difficult.
C.They find it very free.
D.They find it simple.
46.What do most college students fail to realize?
A.Gaining some weight is normal.
B.They have grown up.
C.They have gained a lot of weight.
D.Sudden weight gain may result in serious health problems.
47.What are students advised to do?
A.Eat slowly and exercise regularly.
B.Eat all foods slowly and regularly.
C.Keep enough healthy snacks in the room.
D.Eat healthy snacks as much as possible.

This is not a diet. It's a simple way to lose weight and you don't even have to give up the food you love or join a gym. It's about balancing calories in tiny ways that add up to big benefits. You just form some habits that lean people have.Stick with them, and you'll become thin.
1.Wake up
When your eyes open, sit up slowly without using your hands. With legs straight out, bend forward until you feel a stretch(舒展)in your back.Hold and then use your abs(腹部肌肉)to lower yourself flat.Rest and repeat two more times. It will burn about 10 calories.
2.Start with soup
When you have meal, order a clear soup, and have it before having the main food.It can save twice the calories.Besides, you'll feel fuller,so you'll eat less when the main food comes.
3.An apple(or more)a day
Apples are packed with fiber and water,so your stomach will want less. The study shows that people who eat at least three apples a day lose weight.
4.Stand up and walk around
Every time you take the phone, stand up and walk around.Heavy people sit on average two and a half hours more per day than thin people. This trick is very important as standing up and walking around will burn 50 or more calories.
Use these tricks. With these small changes, you will have a big weight loss.
48.What's the purpose of the passage?

Two studies show the reasons why teens and adults don't have enough sleep. With teens, a major reason is mobile phone use; with adults, it's work. Meanwhile, a third study of young children shows that lack of sleep in early life may lead to serious problems in future. Everyone needs at least 8-hour sleep to recover from tiredness and the hurt caused by hard work in the daytime.
Do exercise to keep away from fatness. Because of the quick pace of the modern life, you don't have time to do exercise every day, but at least three times a week and 45 minutes each time.

故选A。
2.A count“重要”;consider“考虑”;care“关心”;fun_ction“起作用”。
enthusiastic“热情的”;energetic“精力充沛的”;talkative“健谈的”;sensitive“敏感的”。
work on“从事,继续工作”;work out“计算;锻炼”。

in order that和so that后跟从句,且so that引导目的状语从句时不能置于句首。so as to和in order to后跟不定式,但是so as to不可置于句首,故选D项。
make up of“由……构成”;make good use/the most/the best of“充分利用”,故B项正确。
of my own“自己的”;on my own“单独地,独自地”。
10.B do you think作插入语成分出现在句中,故排除C、D两项;把do you think从句中去掉后,其余部分应为自然语序,故排除A项。
根据主语是none of them可知,用they作反意疑问部分的主语,再根据谓语动词由could understand构成可知,A项正确。
used to do sth.“过去常常做某事”,故第一空选用play。be used to do sth.
so did I表示前者的情况同样适用于后者;so I did表示陈述或肯定前文的内容,故本题B项正确。

17.C remind sb.of sth.
19.C Why not do sth.?
I don't like the big English letters...
26.D be likely to do是likely的固定用法,意为“可能会”。

34.A whenever and wherever
37.D 根据文章第二段最后一句话“Since you can't guard your child wholly from the images of super-thin women on TV and elsewhere that often raise those ‘Am I fat?’questions,”可知。
全文共列举了cold-blooded,get cold feet,give someone the cold shoulder,a cold fish,cold-hearted和out in the cold这六个与cold有关的表达。
根据倒数第三段的对“give someone the cold shoulder”的描写可知答案,其中“instead of speaking to him face to face”与“refuse to speak”相吻合。
题干部分说面对非洲忍受饥饿的儿童无动于衷,完全没有反应,这种人与倒数第二段的“But it is a person who is unfriendly, unemotional and shows no love or warmth.”

从第一段“It's a simple way to lose weight...”
A、B、C项的表述与原文1、3、4中作者的建议一致,从第一段第二句“It's a simple way to lose weight and you don't even have to give up the food you love or join a gym.”
根据第2条“Start with soup”表述可知B项不正确;根据第一段第二句“It's a simple way to lose weight and you don't even have to give up the food you love or join a gym.”

Dear_editor,
I'm writing to tell you about the discussion we held yesterday afternoon about health and appearance.
Opinions are divided on the topic. Those for health think that we should take activities or have food on the basic of health, and that good health is the resource of study and work. They insist that the people who own good health can be themselves easily but the people who only own beautiful appearance can't make great contributions to society, on the contrary this kind of people will be burden of society.
But the supporters of beautiful appearance believe that only healthy body will bring nothing good to us and beautiful appearance will surely help us to be successful in study and work. They are fond of the idea that if we are good looking, we can be ourselves more easily.
As far as I'm concerned,I think there is no need to pay too much attention to our appearance as long as we are healthy.Health is the greatest wealth.
Yours_sincerely,
Zhang_Peng

“Worryingly,of those who rarely or never eat lunch,27 percent also never eat breakfast during the working week,”said Ipsos Mori researchers in a statement.
The survey, commissioned by food service company Baxter Storey, estimated skipping breakfast cost companies 8.1 billion pounds or 46.5 million lost working days, with many studies finding a link between eating breakfast and attention span, learning ability and general well-being.
When other poor eating habits such as having no breakfast and lunch or having no breakfast and snacks, are included, lost productivity rocketed to nearly 17 billion pounds.
The survey found most employees-92 percent-have lunch, with 68 percent opting for(选择) sandwiches, but most people don't drink enough during the day.Only 11 percent had the recommended eight or more glasses of drinks during the working day.
“People who eat breakfast have better concentration, problem solving ability, mental performance, memory and mood. People who eat breakfast are also more physically energetic and have better coordination (协调),”said nutrition specialist Matt Barker.

Many people believe they are supposed to drink eight glasses of water a day, or about two liters. Why?Because that is what they have been told all their life. But a recent report offers some different advice. Experts suggest people should obey their bodies. They should drink as much water as they feel like drinking.
The report says most healthy people meet their daily needs for liquid by letting thirst be their guide. The report is from the Institute of Medicine, which provides scientific and technical advice to the government and the public. The report contains some general suggestions. It says women should get about 2.7 liters of water daily and men about 3.7 liters. But wait-in each case, that is more than eight glasses.
There is an important difference. The report does not tell people how many glasses of water to drink. In fact, the experts say it may be impossible to know how many glasses are needed to meet these guidelines. This is because the daily water requirement can include the water contained in foods.
As you might expect, the Institute of Medicine says people need to drink more water when they are physically active. The same is true of those who live in hot climates. Depending on heat and activity, people could need twice as much water as others do.
All this, however, does not answer one question. No one seems sure why people have the idea that good health requires eight glasses of water daily. It may have started with a misunderstanding. In 1945, the National Academy of Sciences published some guidelines. Its Food and Nutrition Board said a good amount of water for most adults was 2.5 liters daily. This was based on an average of one milliliter for each calorie of food eaten.
But that was only part of what the board said. It also said that most of the amount is contained in prepared foods.

give away“泄露”;give out“分发”;give up“放弃”;give off“发出”。
as a matter of fact“事实上”;so far“迄今为止”;in other words“换句话说”;at all“根本,全然”。
in no time“不久,很快,马上”,符合句意。at no time“决不”;at a time“一次,每次”;at one time“曾经,一度”。
9.D a large amount of后接不可数名词;a great deal后应有of;a large number of后接可数名词复数;C项应该是plenty of。
mainly“主要地”;punctually“准时地”;precisely“精确地”。

The story of tea began over four and a half thousand years ago. According to a Chinese fairy story, in 2737 BC the Chinese Emperor, Shen Nung, scholar and herbalist, was sitting under a tree while his servant boiled drinking water. A leaf from the tree dropped into the water and Shen Nung decided to try it. The tree was a wild tea tree.
From the earliest times tea was known for its properties as a healthy and refreshing drink. By the third century AD many stories were being told and some wrote about tea and the benefits of tea drinking, but it was not until the Tang Dynasty that tea became China's national drink and the word “cha” was used to describe tea.
Tea drinking has been practiced throughout the world for hundreds of years from the imperial court of ancient China to the Russian tea room, from the Japanese tea ceremony to British village tea shops.
Tea is a naturally refreshing drink and it has no calories, so it's the perfect drink to keep you looking good and feeling fit. When taken with milk, four cups of tea a day can provide you with significant amounts of the following nutrients: about 17% of the recommended intake for calcium, 5% for zinc, 22% for Vitamin B2, 5% for Vitamin B, especially Vitamins B1 and B6.
