When we got into the 34 to go home, his father suddenly appeared. 35 , he began to wash his son’s windscreen. I could feel he is a caring man through the glass.

In George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, the storyline centers around three main characters: Eliza Doolittle, Professor Henry Higgins, and Colonel Pickering. Eliza Doolittle is a flower girl who is under the instruction of Professor Higgins and Colonel Pickering to learn proper grammar and phonetics. Eliza can be characterized as a very sensitive(敏感的)and emotional person. She seeks to be treated like a duchess by men. Her personality clashes(冲突)with the personality of Professor Higgins in an extreme way. Professor Higgins is an arrogant(傲慢的), work-obsessed expert in phonetics who views Eliza simply as an experiment. He is a bachelor who has never found a place for women in his life due to his obsession(痴迷)with language. Colonel Pickering is a gentleman from India who is also an expert in language. He is gentler than Higgins and treats Eliza with respect while maintaining a professional interest in her. These three characters make up the main action of the play as Eliza learns speech of the upper class from them. She manages to pass herself off as a Hungarian princess at a formal party. This achievement makes Eliza give credence to the efforts of Higgins and Pickering. After experiencing life in the upper class, Eliza settles for a lower-class life with a man who loves her for who she is and wants to marry her. After some small and unimportant disputes, Eliza and Higgins remain friends later. Other memorable characters include Mrs. Higgins who maintains an authoritative(权威的)figure over her grown son and Mr. Doolittle who rises from a dustman to a respected speaker in the community.
I think that this is a good book because it shows that happiness can be achieved without wealth and fame. I highly recommend it due to its emphasis on grammatical and phonetic correctness.

Job sharing refers to the situation in which two people divide the responsibility of one full-time job. The two people willingly act as part-time workers, enough hours between them to fulfill(履行)the duties of a full-time worker. If they each work half the job, for example, they each receive 50 percent of the job’s wages, its holidays and its other benefits.
Job sharing differs from conventional(常规的)part-time work in that it occurs mainly in the more highly skilled and professional areas, which require higher levels of responsibility and employee commitment.
Job sharing should not be confused with the term work sharing, which refers to increasing the number of jobs by reducing the number of hours of each existing job, thus offering more positions to the growing number of unemployed people. Job sharing, by contrast, is not designed to address unemployment problems; its focus, rather, is to provide well-paid work for skilled workers and professionals who want more free time for other activities.
As would be expected, most job sharers are women. A survey carried out in 1988 by Britain’s Equal Opportunities Commission showed that 78 percent of sharers were female, the majority of whom were between 20 and 40 years of age. Subsequent studies have come up with similar results. Many of these women were reentering the job market after having had children, but they chose not to seek part-time work because it would have meant lower status. Job sharing also offered an acceptable shift back into full-time work after a long absence.
The necessity of close cooperation when sharing a job with another person makes the actual work quite different from conventional one-position jobs. However, to ensure a greater chance that the partnership will succeed, each person needs to know the strengths, weaknesses and preferences of his or her partner before applying for a position. Moreover, there must be a fair division of both routine tasks and interesting ones. In sum, for a position to be job-shared well, the two individuals must be well matched and must treat each other as equals.
55. In what way is work sharing different from job sharing?
A. Work sharing requires more working hours.
B. Work sharing is aimed at creating more jobs.
C. Work sharing provides a more satisfactory salary.
D. Work sharing depends on the employer’s decision.
56. According to Paragraph 4, young mothers preferred job sharing to conventional part-time work mainly because .
A. they sought higher social status

D. they had to take care of both work and family
57. In job sharing the partners should .

D. know each other very well
58. The main purpose of the passage is to .

You’re in a department store and you see a couple of attractive young women looking at a sweater. You listen to their conversation: “I can’t believe it—Lorenzo Bertolla! They are almost impossible to find. Isn’t it beautiful? And it’s a lot cheaper than the one Sara bought in Rome. ”
They leave and you go over to see this incredible sweater. It’s nice and the price is right. You’ve never heard of Lorenzo Bertolla, but those girls looked really stylish. They must know. So, you buy it. You never realize that those young women are employees of an advertising agency. They are actually paid to go from store to store, talking loudly about Lorenzo Bertolla clothes.
Every day we notice what people are wearing, driving and eating. If the person looks cool, the product seems cool, too. This is the secret of undercover marketing. Companies from Ford to Nike are starting to use it.
Undercover marketing is important because it reaches people that don’t pay attention to traditional advertising. This is particularly true of the MTV generation-consumers between the age of 18 and 34. It’s a golden group. They have a lot of money to spend, but they don’t trust ads.
So advertising agencies hire young actors to “perform” in bars and other places where young adults go. Some people might call this practice misleading, but marketing executive Jonathan Ressler calls it creative. “Look at traditional advertising. Its effectiveness is decreasing. ”It is true, because everyone knows an ad is trying to persuade you to buy something. However, you don’t know when a conversation you overhear is just a performance.
59. The two attractive young women were talking so as to .
A. get the sweater at a lower price
B. be heard by people around
C. be admired by other shoppers
D. decide on buying the sweater
60. Lorenzo Bertolla is .
A. a very popular male singer
B. an advertising agency
C. a clothing company in Rome
D. a brand name of clothes
61. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Traditional advertising will soon disappear in the market.
B. The MTV generation tends to be more easily influenced by all kinds of ads.
C. That traditional advertising is too direct may lead to its decreasing effectiveness.
D. Undercover marketing will surely be banned soon by the government.
62. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. Two Attractive Shoppers
B. Lorenzo Bertolla Sweaters
C. Ways of Advertising
D. Undercover Marketing

Fujitsu, a Japanese technology company, has created a system capable of simultaneously(同时地)charging multiple portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras and laptop computers without the need for cable connections.
Electric car users may also eventually be able to charge their vehicles wirelessly using the same technology, said the company, which developed a sample system at Osaka Prefecture University. Claiming to be the world’s first of its kind, the technology works on the basis of the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the charger and the electronic device.
The system enables wireless charging at distances of up to several meters. With the final aim of installing public “charging spots” on the streets in order to enable easy charging around the clock, scientists at Fujitsu Labs are planning to commercially sell products incorporating the new wireless charging system as early as 2012 but have not yet decided how much they would cost.
“This technology paves the way to integrating compact wireless charging functions into mobile phones and enabling multiple portable devices to be charged simultaneously without any restrictions on their position relating to the charger, ”the company said in a statement.
Mobile phone users in Japan can currently charge their batteries using the disposable portable plug-in battery-operated device, available at most train stations and convenience stores. However, phone companies warn long time use of it can damage the phones.
The company added, “We are also looking at applying the results of this work to fields other than portable electronics, including power transmission between circuit boards(电路板)or computer chips, and providing mobile charging systems for electric cars. ”
63. This passage was most probably taken from .
A. an instructive brochure
B. readers’ feedback
C. a news report
D. a brief introduction
64. Which of the following can best describe the striking feature of this system?

“Our aim is to take our art to the world and make people understand what it is to move, ”said David Belle, the founder of parkour(跑酷).
Do you love running? It is a good exercise, yet many people find it boring. But what if making your morning jog a creative one? Like jumping from walls and over gaps, and ground rolls? Just like the James Bond in the movie Casino Royale? Bond jumps down from a roof to a windowsill and then runs several blocks over obstacles(障碍物)on the way. It is just because of Bond’s wonderful performances that the sport has become popular worldwide.
Yes, that’s parkour, an extreme street sport aimed at moving from one point to another as quickly as possible, getting over all the obstacles in the path using only the abilities of the human body. Parkour is considered an extreme sport. As its participants dash around a city, they may jump over fences, run up walls and even move from rooftop to rooftop.
Parkour can be just as exciting and charming as it sounds, but its participants see parkour much more than that. 21世纪教育网
Overcoming all the obstacles on the course and in life is part of the philosophy(理念)behind parkour. This is the same as life. You must determine your destination, go straight, jump over all the barriers as if in parkour and never fall back from them in your life to reach the destination successfully. A parkour lover said, “I love parkour because its philosophy has become my life, my way to do everything. ”
Another philosophy we’ve learnt from parkour is freedom. It can be done by anyone, at any time, anywhere in the world. It is a kind of expression of trust in yourself. It is only a state of mind. It is when you trust yourself that you earn energy.
67. Parkour has become popular throughout the world because of .

43. 【解析】选C。逻辑推理题。后文“She wasn’t a good friend! ”是作者对朋友做出的武断的评价, 而并非是对朋友的“感情”、“建议”或“信念”, 故选C项。
44. 【解析】选B。逻辑推理题。“My anger. . . as the holidays approached. ”与But then. . . 构成转折关系, But then. . .

It seems that differences are resources of contradiction. On the one hand, differences give rise to different voices and thus stop us from reaching consistent agreements quickly. Worse still, it is differences in beliefs and interest that most conflicts result from. On the other hand, differences broaden our horizons and enable us to consider an issue from different angles fully allowing for all aspects, thus preventing us from rushing to narrow-minded decisions.
I used to think little of arts and felt reluctant to make friends with fellows studying arts on the assumption that they were just sentimental and lacked logical thinking that indicated intelligence. But in my hardest times when I failed an important test, it was the few uninvited friends studying arts that encouraged me with their persuasive understanding of life and helped me regain my confidence and ambition.
So differences are resources that make for full development.
