Day 10
Learning how to care for a sad person will help you be there for your loved ones and friends when they are down. However, knowing how to care for a sad person is not something an individual is born with. 1 Here are a few tips that will eventually help you lift the spirit of a sad person.
Give a hug. Hugging someone shows your affection and care. 2 This can make them feel relaxed and open to you. This can also help them recognize that you are there to help them go through this moment. With no kind and loving words, your actions have already said a lot.
3 Now, go on and say some kind words. Words like “I’m here”, “we are in this together”, “you’ll get over this”, “lean on me” and so on, can help a sad person feel better and know that you’re there to take him/her through the sad moment.
Use the right tone of voice. 4 They go along with tone to convey a meaning to the listener. To convey your words with faith that would create a positive effect on the sad person, you would need to say it with the right tone of voice.
Listen patiently. People ask lots of questions but they end up paying little attention to getting the feedback (反馈) that they wanted. Don’t be that person. After asking the questions, listen patiently to know what the sad person would appreciate at that time. 5
A.Say kind loving words.
B.Make use of polite expressions.
C.Then choose to appreciate others too.
D.Remember that words do not stand alone.
E.It will help you know how to offer the best fitting help.
F.This knowledge is gained through research and practice.
G.When you do this to someone, they can feel your warmth.
Sustainability for kids can start with a seed. We put together some ways to involve the whole family in protecting the environment.
Go on a hike. Parental involvement in early childhood education looks different in various settings from preschool to home and to the grocery store. 6 Going on a hike together can be an ideal thing to investigate a local ecosystem, look for signs of the changing season, and gain an overall appreciation of the world outdoors. Plus, by bringing an extra garbage bag and gloves to pick up trash along the way, parents can show kids some educational activities.
Go green for holidays. Make holidays fun while also supporting a green environment for kids. Use LED lights for decorative lighting. 7 Decrease your carbon footprint and purchase holiday gifts from local shops.
8 Parents don’t need an acre of land to teach their children that food doesn't grow at the grocery store. All they need is sunlight, water and dirt. A windowsill is the perfect spot to grow herbs. A back deck can grow beautiful tomatoes. Plant peach seeds in a small container. 9
Recycle together. Recycling activities for kids can be fun and support family involvement in education at the same time. 10 Then work with them to make something new out of the recycled items, such as making boxes out of recycled cardboard and storage tins out of recycled cans.
A.Plant a “garden”.
B.Don’t buy food from the grocery.
C.Protecting the environment for kids is important.
D.Parents should tell children what they can recycle.
E.And the children can watch a little peach tree grow.
F.Recycle Christmas trees instead of throwing them away.
G.To a child, every setting and every moment can be a teachable one.
Day 11
The term “growth mindset” has become something of a buzzword in our life. You can find it everywhere you look—in the seminars of motivational speakers, in the education course descriptions, and in the mission statements of companies. 11
One of the biggest misconceptions about growth mindset is that it is the same thing as being open-minded in your beliefs. This is untrue. Being open-minded in your beliefs is often the belief on what true growth mindset is, but this is actually called “false growth mindset” in the research community. 12 What this means is that they have a fixed belief on their intelligence level, which is exactly what a fixed mindset is. They believe that they are growing, when in reality they are not.
Being open-minded to other people’s beliefs and new things is great, but it does not mean that you are actually learning anything. Furthermore, there is no way to ever have a truly complete growth mindset. 13 It is important that you accept this and embrace it, while still desiring to experience growth anyway. This is the only way you can truly foster as m’ of a growth mindset as humanly possible.
14 Unproductive efforts that are merely done for the reward or outcome are not considered to be growth mindset. True growth mindset has nothing to do with reward or outcome. Rather, it is based entirely on the learning and growing process itself. When you are invested in a growth mindset, you are invested in the process regardless of the outcome.
15 You cannot simply “have” a growth mindset. You have to want one, and invest in having one. Understanding the truth about growth mindset will enable you to understand exactly how this trait can assist you in life.
A.Mindset is a lot harder than “just do it”.
B.It is virtually impossible, as we are all fixed in some way or another.
C.Another false belief is that growth mindset is about rewarded efforts.
D.A second misconception is that people’s motivation comes from the process.
E.But despite its popularity, some people don’t understand what it actually means.
F.This is essentially people who have an “I already have it, and I always have” attitude.
G.Growth mindset assists people in having greater results from what they set out to accomplish.
The most successful people all have certain habits in their daily routines. These habits help contribute to their success. Forming a new good habit can be a struggle, but it is well worth the effort. 16
Set your goal.
Before you can begin to work on your new habit, figure out exactly what you hope to accomplish. 17 Make sure that your goal is specific, measurable and realistic to increase your chances of success.
18
It is important to choose the habits that are most likely to help you achieve your goal. After you have set your goal and worked out all the specifics of achieving that goal, identify a habit that is part of achieving that goal. Consider what good habit would help you accomplish that goal.
Consider your motivation.
Once you have identified your goal and the new habit you need to accomplish this goal, then take some time to consider your motivation. 19 It is your good motivation that can help you change from possible failure to certain success with your new habit.
Give yourself time.
Forming a new habit can take a long time. Some people can form a new habit in as little as a few weeks, while other people will take several months. As you work to form your new habit, just keep in mind that it may be a while before it comes true. 20
A.Identify ways to achieve goals.
B.Find the habit you want to form.
C.It is worthwhile to consider your goal.
D.Good habits are sure to make you a success.
E.Try to be patient with yourself as you form your new habit.
F.Here are the four steps you can follow to form good habits.
G.Your motivation is the reason why you want to form this new habit.

It seems a bit strange to imagine ancient Egyptians celebrating their birthdays with layered cakes topped with lighted candles. 26
The first birthday cakes were nothing of what they are today and weren’t even called birthday cakes. 27 At that time only they could afford to celebrate with something sweet. That is how cake became associated with special occasions.
Ancient Egyptians are credited with“inventing”the birthday celebration. And ancient Greeks borrowed the tradition but rightfully realized that a dessert would make the celebration all the more meaningful. So they baked moon-shaped cakes to offer up to the moon. 28
It wasn’t just the ancient Egyptians and Greeks who celebrated with sweet cakes. 29 And it’s believed that the original birthday cake came from them. Rather than just celebrating birthdays, though, ancient Rome was known for celebrating all things with a cake including wedding, but there was an exception—the birthdays celebrated were only for men who were citizens, and they had to be famous.
Modern birthday parties are said to get their roots from the 18th-century German celebration. On the morning of a child’s birthday, he or she would receive a cake with lighted candles that added up to the child’s age plus one. 30 The birthday child would make a wish, try to blow out all the candles in one breath, and dig in.
A.Ancient Romans also had their traditions.
B.Rather, they were symbolic of the noble class.
C.Ancient Greeks made the first birthday cakes.
D.On birthday, children would eat cakes made by their mums.
E.They also decorated the cakes to make them shine like the moon.
F.This extra candle was called the light of hope for another new year.
G.However, they’re the ones who first came up with the idea to do so.
