The key word is practice! Practice, practice, practice!! There is no other way. There is no magic. The way to get better at listening to English is to listen to English. That’s the not-so-good news.
The good news is there are many ways to listen and many things to listen to.
Listening to English songs can be fun. But be careful! Most ________ use the language in a special way that you don’t hear every day. You don’t want to start speaking English like a poet or songwriter. If you do listen to English songs, listen to different ones. This will help you train your ears to different voices, pronunciations and rhythms.
If you can, get a copy of the lyrics(歌词) so you can read them and listen to them at the same time. It is sometimes better to listen with your eyes as well as your ears—more information to help the brain.
Watch English DVDs. But, this time, do not use your eyes to read the subtitles (字幕). Turn off the subtitles, because movies have so many other clues about what is happening that it is better not to use the subtitles. This forces your ears to do the work.
Choose one character (人物) that interests you and pay attention to what they say and how they say it. If you can, repeat a line out loud after they have said it. Teach yourself one or more sayings, phrases or ways of talking that you will use after watching the movie. A new and growing resource of English language for listening can be found in blogs. Blogs are in MP3 format and can be loaded first onto your computer and then onto your MP3 player for very convenient take-with-you listening.
You can find many English listening practices are fun, new, educational and in unending supply.

任务型读写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词。 Good failures happen when, even though you made the correct decision, you still lost. Bad failures happen because you made bad decisions, or worse, didn’t make a decision at all. Although the two feel the same, they have a completely different long-term impact.
By separating the two types of failures, it is easier to persevere through good failures. It may hurt to have your business proposal shut down for the fifteenth time, but it isn’t necessarily a bad failure. You can also avoid more bad failures. If you fail because of laziness, indecision or poor planning, you can quickly correct those in the future.
I’ve found that there are several categories of good failures. Since they come from good, not bad, decisions, they are the best way to fail.
1. High Upside, Low Downside
There are many areas of life where the upside is far greater than the downside. When I write an article, it takes about 90 minutes of work. If nobody responds to that post, then I’ve just wasted 90 minutes. However, if the article becomes popular, it can bring in thousands of visitors to my website. Those thousands of visitors translate into new readers who can get value from the website. In addition, it often results in a higher monthly income for me.
2. Breaking through Your Limits
The only way to know your limits are to go past them. Occasionally I’ve committed myself to more work than I can handle. The result is stress. However, if not, you can never improve. You’ll always go slightly below your capacity, never reaching your possible potential. Occasionally facing an exhausting schedule ensures my productivity muscles stay strong.
3. Taking on Too Big a Challenge
I’ve often set goals that were nearly impossible to accomplish. I didn’t have enough time to reach the deadline and I had no idea what I was doing. Although setting extremely difficult challenges results in a lot of failures, it keeps you sharp.
Why failure can be good?
(76)____ of good

● Bad failures happen because you made bad, worse or no decisions.
● Both (78) ______ people differently in the long term.

Although problems are a part of our lives, it certainly doesn’t mean that we let them rule our lives forever. One day or the other, you’ll have to stand up and say – problem, I don’t want you in my life.
36 Problems with friends, parents, girlfriends, husbands, and children – the list goes on. Apart from these, the inner conflicts within ourselves work, too. These keep adding to our problems. Problems come in different shapes and colors and feelings.
But good news is that all problems can be dealt with. Now read on to know how to solve your problems.
Talk, it really helps. What most of us think is that our problem can be understood only by us and that no talking is going to help. 37 Talking helps you move on and let go.
Write your problems. 38 When you write down your problems, you are setting free all the tension from your system. You can try throwing away the paper on which you wrote your problems. By doing this, imagine yourself throwing away the problems from your life.
Don’t lose faith and hope. No matter what you lose in life, don’t lose faith and hope. Even if you lose all your money, family… you should still have faith. 39
Your problems aren’t the worst. No matter what problem you get in life, there’re another one million people whose problems are huger than yours. 40 Your problems might just seem big and worse, but in reality they can be removed.
Go about and solve your problems because every problem, however big or small, always has a way out.
A. But the truth is that when you talk about it, you’re setting free the negative energies that have been gathering within you.

任务型读写 (共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。注意:每个空格只填一个单词。
Once kids hit the teenage years, parenting becomes more difficult than ever. Establishing effective house rules is one of the best ways to educate teenagers. House rules must respect teenagers’ desire to be independent and make sure they behave responsibly.
How can effective house rules be established?
First of all, get your teenager to take part in making the rules, which can help keep them motivated to follow them. Ask their opinion about what sorts of things they think are important when creating the rules and try to include some of their ideas.
When creating the list of rules, don’t list every single rule imaginable. Instead, try to limit it to the ten most important rules. I’ve seen some parents come up with several pages of rules which turn out to be more like a rule book rather than a list. Remember, it is important to make the list easy to remember and to be a basic guide.
Then, it is important that you write out the list of rules and hang them in a prominent (显眼的) location. Keeping the rules on the refrigerator or displayed somewhere where everyone can see them is a good reminder. Revise the rules whenever there’s a need, not very frequently though.
Explain clearly in advance what negative consequences will be in store when a rule gets broken. But ensure that none of your consequences are equal to abusive parenting. For example, take off the rule that says — “if you don’t get home by 11 at night, make arrangements to stay elsewhere until morning”. Let helping with small household chores like cleaning up their own rooms serve as consequences for disobeying rules.
Following these tips on establishing effective house rules accompanied by constant positive reinforcement (执行) will help improve your teenager’s behavior. Hope you can direct your teenager to become a responsible and independent person with the help of house rules!
Establishing house rules for (76) __________

Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage.
We lived in a very quiet neighborhood. One evening I heard a loud crash in the street. Earlier that evening my wife had asked me to go to the store to get some soft drinks. It seemed like this would be a good time to let my teenager daughter Holly practice her driving.
At dinner my son talked about how much he liked my truck. I enjoyed having it, but I said, “Guy, my heart is not set on that truck. I like it but it is just metal and won’t last forever. Never set your heart on anything that won’t last.”
After hearing the loud noise, the whole family ran outside. My son shouted, “Dad! Dad, Holly crashed your truck.”
My heart sank and my mind was flooded with conflicting thoughts. Was anyone hurt? Who else was involved? As I ran to the door, I heard a voice in my heart say, “Here is a chance to show Holly what you really love. She’ll never forget it.”
The accident had occurred in my own driveway. Holly had crashed my truck into our other vehicle, the family van (搬运车). In her inexperience, she had confused the brakes and the gas pedal. Holly was unhurt physically, but when I reached her, she was crying and saying, “Oh, Dad, I’m sorry. I know how much you love this truck.” I held her in my arms as she cried.
Later that week a friend stopped by and asked what had happened to my truck. I told her the story. Her eyes moistened(湿润) and she said, “That happened to me when I was a girl. I borrowed my dad’s car and ran into a log that had fallen across the road. I ruined the car. When I got home my Dad knocked me to the ground and began to kick me.” Over 40 years later, she still felt the pain of that night. It was a deep wound on her soul.
I remember how sad Holly was the night and how I comforted her. One day, when Holly thinks back on her life, I want her to know that I love her a thousand times more than any piece of property. I repaired the van, but the dent (凹痕) in my truck is still there today. Every day it reminds me of what really matters in my life.

Tomatoes are generally easy to grow. Experts suggest you start seeds indoors if the ground is still cold. For best results with the least risk, they say, plant when the soil is warm, soon after the frostfree date for your area.
Small plants may be placed a third of a meter apart in rows. If you grow staked plants, set the sticks in the ground about half a meter apart. Some larger varieties of tomatoes may need about a meter between plants and at least a meter and a half between rows. The idea is to leave enough space for harvesting.
Work the soil to remove weeds(杂草). But do not work the soil too deeply or you could damage the tomato plants. Water the plants regularly during long dry periods. Give them plenty of water. Plants in containers may need water daily or even more than once a day. Besides, do give the tomato plants complete organic fertilizers(肥料).
Some gardeners train tomato plants to grow on supporting materials. Whatever you choose, make sure the supports are tall enough. Most modern tomato plants grow about a meter tall. Others reach almost two meters.
Tomatoes started from seed take fortyfive to ninety days till harvest. The average air temperature should be about 24℃. In that case, you can pick the tomatoes when they are firm and fully colored. But if the weather is very hot, pick the tomatoes every day or two. Let them soften and develop their full color indoors.
There was a time when people thought tomatoes were poisonous. In fact, they are just the opposite. Tomatoes are good for you. But are they a fruit or a vegetable? Technically, a tomato is a fruit—the fruit of the tomato plant. But some fruits, including tomatoes, may be called “vegetables” because they are used in tasty foods instead of sweet cooking.

Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information fromthe passage.
Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.
Food makes us feel good, but some people eat when they aren’t really hungry and eat to simply feel good. This kind of eating habit is called emotional eating, which does not affect adults but also young children. It isn’t a good thing.
A child’s eating habits can develop right from childhood. As we know, a baby cries out if he doesn’t get milk at the usual time of the day. However, sometimes parents immediately stick a bottle in a child’s mouth without trying to find out if the child is really hungry. In fact, children may cry for other reasons. Even as children grow up and start going to school, parents sometimes give them a chocolate bar if they become really unhappy. As the children further grow up, they may become used to having a snack whenever they’re upset or low.
Therefore, they’d like to eat an emotional snack when they have the feeling of unhappiness and boredom. Even when they don’t get high grades, aren’t popular at school or made fun of by others, they will want something to eat. After having the snack, they feel a lot better.
Emotional eating in young children is a thing that needs to be taken seriously. To protect your children from emotional eating, you should satisfy your child’s emotional needs in the best possible way. This includes spending time with your child every day, taking an interest in his school work, helping your child study, providing a health environment without tension at home, etc. Don’t make the child lose face by scolding him. Develop confidence in your child. Make your child eat enough once in a while. Reward him for his achievements.
All this will help your little one develop a healthy eating habit. And always remember love and care is the key to help you child out of trouble and grow up happily.

Trash removal(清除垃圾)is something every person needs to think about for their residence(住宅) because organizing a cleanup event can make the community more beautiful and be good for the environment. This is a good opportunity to bring families together and get them outdoors and helping each other to beautify (美化)the community.
Organizing a trash removal event is easy if you know how to prepare for it. Get ready to improve the place where you live to make it cleaner for everyone!
You need to choose a day for the trash removal event. Select a date that is about two to four months away. Planning as far in advance as possible is always smart. Choose a second date as a backup (候补)in the event of rain or other bad weather conditions.
Your best situation is to select an area in your community that is often used and tends to interest people on a regular basis. Parks are a good example of an area that might need a good cleanup. Lakes, beaches and areas that are found along roads that are traveled frequently could get some help in the trash removal event. Just make sure you make plans to clean up an area that will not be dangerous to everyone involved.
It is strongly recommended that you ask for permission from the county, city or town before you start making serious plans to round up the garbage in an organized event. Doing so makes you responsible citizen of the community.
Once you receive permission to hold a trash removal event you can then move forward with your plans. Organize a committee to make the public know about the outdoor cleanup and then ask for volunteers. For example, you can give out fliers(传单)or put them up in right areas of your community where the fliers are visible.

Chiefs of sina.com, baidu.com and qq.com have promised the government that they will firmly cooperate with relevant departments to deal with the online spreading of rumors, saying they will improve selfmanagement and take effective measures toward this goal.
Microblogging websites should not be a hotbed for spreading of rumors, said a chief of sina.com, which operates the country's most popular microblogging site Weibo.com.He said Sina was making efforts to control the release of contents on Weibo.com and improve its ability to find out and remove rumors posted on it.
Weibo.com and another major Chinese microblogging site qq.com stopped their comment functions from March 31 to April 3 after they were punished for allowing rumors to spread.
A chief from Baidu.com said it was calling off illegal and fake(虚假)information in its search results and it would further increase technical and manpower investment to remove disinformation.
The website qq.com is learning from the past experience and bettering the safety strategy for its microblogging service to further prevent the spreading of online rumors through microblogging sites, said an unnamed chief from qq.com.

Obtaining Fresh Water from Icebergs
The idea of getting fresh water from icebergs that are moved to populated areas or places was once treated as a joke. Recently, scientists have warned that the human race will outgrow its fresh water supply faster than it runs out of food.___71___

Be optimistic
Stay close to friends
Act as if you are happy
Make somebody happy
Exercise regularly
Be grateful
Happiness is a choice. To be happy at all times, you need to make happiness a habit and not just an act. I believe that the following points will show you how to stay happy no matter what happens.
61.___________
Gratitude is a sign of appreciation and you ought to show appreciation for life. Always wake up every morning in acknowledgement that you have a list of things you should be thankful for, for example, I woke up this morning, I have food on my table, I have clothes to wear, I have a good paying job, the skies are beautiful and the atmosphere is great. By the time, I am sure that you will feel better already.
62.____ ______
Unhappiness can result from stressing our bodies and minds. Scientists believe that 20 minutes of exercise can make you happy regardless of how sad you may be. Exercise raises your heart rate. As your heart begins to pound, certain hormones(荷尔蒙)are released which create a sense of total well being and you begin to feel well again, the mind stress is gone and everything is under control. Another thing you can do is to take a walk; this works for me all the time. When you take a walk, you are able to think over matters that are bothering you and come up with solutions to them.
63.___________
“The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer somebody else up.” Said Mark Twain. When you sow happiness, you gain happiness. Mother Teresa knew this secret so well; she devoted her life to helping others even if it simply meant putting a smile on someone’s face. Here are two of her famous quotes: “A life not lived for others is not a life; let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.”
64.____________
Change is inevitable(不可避免的)and no situation is permanent. Whenever you are feeling sad or depressed, always remember that it’s temporary and that tomorrow will be better, tough times don’t last but tough people do. Develop a positive attitude, and you will stay happy.
65._____________
Smile always, even when you are feeling blue. When the body acts, emotions follow. A smile costs nothing but it creates much, it enriches those who receive it without making those who give poor. Learn to smile and act at all times, it won’t only make you happy, it will also win you happy friends.
【小题5】C 根据本段第一行Smile always, even when you are feeling blue. When the body acts, emotions follow.可知即使我们心情不好,我们也要保持微笑,因为微笑可以让我们保持积极的心态。故C项正确。

[1]Fishing is probably the world's most popular sport. People spend many dollars each year on items like boats and fourwheeldrive vehicles. In addition, they spend money on fishing equipment, bait, fuel and boat repairs. And you can see that fishing can be an expensive pastime. Fishing lovers believe that their hobby is worth it. Others say that fishing is spoiling the environment and that it is a cruel hobby.
[2]Supporters of fishing say that it is a nice hobby. Firstly, of the millions of people who fish for fun, most only catch enough fish to feed their families. They catch fish that are found in large numbers, so there is little danger to the species (种类).
[3]Secondly, recreational fishermen contribute to the economy. They spend money on equipment and other items, and they also spend it indirectly by paying taxes on their equipment and fuel. Those who travel to fishing spots pay for accommodation (食宿) and airfares. This money keeps people in work and provides new jobs each year.
[4]Thirdly, fishing is relaxing and fun so it lessens stress. Instead of turning to drugs or alcohol, it is far better to go fishing. People who are relaxed are generally healthier and much nicer to be near—except for the smell of the bait!
[5]Those who ________ say that there are too many fish thoughtlessly taken from rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. This could lead to the dying out of some species. Modern cars and boats mean that people can fish in remote areas of the world, so no place is safe from greedy fishermen who take both males and females, leaving few fish to produce young.
[6]Those against fishing also say that it is a blood sport, which means that an animal must die so that a human can have fun. Many of the fish caught for sport are not suitable for eating, so they are thrown away. Once hooked, fish have no chance of escape.

D. Flight attendants might water down your drinks.
E. Flight attendants are trained to identify criminals.

Things An Air Hostess Won't Tell You
To make things a bit easier for them and ensure a smooth flight, many Flight attendants have little tricks under their sleeves. Here are some of them which they won't tell you out of sheer politeness.
【小题1】__________
Contrary to what most people think, a flight attendant's primary job is to ensure your safety - the helping and serving part of their job are just add-ons. If they are assisting you with your luggage, it is to make sure it is stored properly and does not harm anyone. They are not required to lift your bags or help you take them elsewhere. All the other assistance, such as providing you with a drink, handing you hot towels, etc., are to make sure you stay calm and satisfied.
【小题2】__________
As unfair as it may seem, the time that a flight attendant spends in getting the plane ready, settling you down, etc., is not included in their salary. They do, however, receive some expense allowance(津贴) for the entire time they clock in - it is a pretty small income though
【小题3】__________
If a flight attendant feels a passenger is ordering too many drinks, and getting drunk, they might avoid serving him/her by avoiding eye contact. When that fails, they might just fill the glass half-way or give him/her a diluted (稀释的) drink

Things An Air Hostess Won't Tell You
To make things a bit easier for them and ensure a smooth flight, many Flight attendants have little tricks under their sleeves. Here are some of them which they won't tell you out of sheer politeness.
61.__________
62. __________
As unfair as it may seem, the time that a flight attendant spends in getting the plane ready, settling you down, etc., is not included in their salary. They do, however, receive some expense allowance(津贴) for the entire time they clock in - it is a pretty small income though
63. __________
If a flight attendant feels a passenger is ordering too many drinks, and getting drunk, they might avoid serving him/her by avoiding eye contact. When that fails, they might just fill the glass half-way or give him/her a diluted (稀释的) drink
64. __________
A number of training programs and workshops exist to train flight attendants in different aspects. As some people are using flights more and more to smuggle (走私), flight attendants are being regarded as the first line of defense against this heinous (邪恶的)crime. 65. __________

My name is Clara. I still remember that chilly December day, sitting in science class. I'd finished a worksheet early and picked up a TIME for Kids magazine. A piece of news caught my eye: NASA was holding an essay contest to name its Mars rover(火星探测器).Before I even knew anything else about it,a single word flooded my 11yearold mind: Curiosity.
I couldn't want for the bell to ring so I could get started on my essay. That afternoon, I raced home, sat down at the computer, and typed until my fingers ached. “Curiosity is an everlasting flame that burns in everyone's mind...”
Five months later, my mom received a phone call, and immediately, a wide smile spread across her face.
On August 5,2012,at 10:31 p.m., the rover named Curiosity touched down safely on the surface of Mars, and I was honored to have a frontrow seat in NASA.
Curiosity is such an important part of who I am. I have always been fascinated by the stars, the planets, the sky and the universe. I remember as a little girl, my grandmother and I would sit together in the backyard for hours. She'd tell me stories and point out the stars. Grandma lived in China, thousands of miles away from my home in Kansas, but the stars kept us together even when we were apart. They were always there, yet there was so much I didn't know about them. That's what I love so much about space.
People often ask me why we go to faraway places like Mars. My answer is simple because we're curious. We human beings do not just hole_up in one place. We are constantly wondering and trying to find out what's over the hill and beyond the horizon.

In 2000, the world's first mobile phones with cameras were put on the market in Japan. Two years later, these phones were released in Australia, Europe and the United States. A market research shows that there has been a sharp rise in worldwide sales from 80 million mobile camera phones in 2003 to 1.14 billion by 2013.
Camera phones have not only been used for entertainment. In Sweden, a grocer snapped a shot of a robber and downloaded the photograph to his computer, which allowed the police to catch the suspect. In Italy, the same thing was done when a shop owner snapped pictures of two robbers. In Wales, doctors send photos of Xrays to consult a more experienced specialist about medical treatment for their patients. In Japan, the police have set up a website for citizens to send pictures of suspicious activities.
Now, newspaper reporters can use camera phones to take pictures of important events. They can then send the pictures to their newspaper office. As the quality of camera phone pictures increases, we can expect to see camera phones used more and normal cameras used less. More people are using their camera phones to take pictures of their trips, or just small unexpected things that happen in their daily lives. They can then send these pictures to friends anywhere.
However, camera phones have also been used to commit crimes. To prevent spying, these phones are not allowed in government buildings in the United Kingdom. Some car companies don't allow their employees to use their phones because they want to prevent some employees watching new car models and sensitive information secretly. In Italy, to prevent dishonest voting, people are not allowed to use mobile phones while they vote. It appears that although there are many advantages to the new technology, we still have to be careful.

下面文章中有5处(第61—65题)需要添加小标题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合各段意思的小标题,并在答题纸上将相应选项的标号涂黑。选项中有一项是多余选项。
A. Raise children with multiple (多种的) languages
B. Adults prefer basic grammar points
C. Children learn languages faster
D. Learn two languages at the same time
E. Learn a language as an adult
F. Learn your native language
Language learning for young children
If you’ve ever tried to learn a second language as an adult, you probably know that it isn’t easy. You have to study hard. Cards, papers, hours of listening and speaking practice are a minimum (最低限度) for adult language learners. For children, however, learning a language, is much easier.
61. ______
Do you remember the process of learning your native language? As a baby, you began to learn your native language before you began to form long-term memories. You first began to understand the spoken language. After that, you started repeating what you heard and making sounds that still had no meaning. Soon you learned to pronounce words in your native language. As time went by, you learned more words and began to speak with correct grammar. All this happened to you without thinking.
62. ______
If you have ever taken language classes as an adult, you are probably well aware that language learning becomes much more difficult as you age. Adults rarely pick up a language without thinking. You have to study hard to learn grammar rules and practice your pronunciation and listening skills as much as you possibly can. Many adults desire to be able to learn a language as easily as children can, but, unfortunately, the days of easy language learning are over for most of them.
63. ______
Why is language learning so much easier for children than it is for adults? It turns out that this question still doesn’t have a clear scientific answer. When it comes to human behavior, language is one of the most strange aspects of our lives. It’s clear that there is a period during childhood that is good for learning languages, and that it becomes more difficult afterwards. The areas of the brain that rule language learning become much less active as we age. What is understood is that children learn not only their native language but also foreign languages much faster than adults.
64. ______
Children who grow up in an environment where multiple languages are spoken can easily pick up different languages, sometimes even without realizing that they are different languages. For example, children whose parents speak two different languages will learn to speak to Mom in one way and to Dad in a different way, but they do not understand these are two different languages. According to a study, these children will learn both languages easily and won’t even have a preference for one or the other.
65. ______
So what’s the suggestion for parenting? If you want your children to speak more than one language, no advice is more important than this start early! The earlier children start learning a second or foreign language, the easier it will be for them to learn that language. Sending small children to bilingual (双语) schools is one way to put them on the path towards being successful people who speak multiple languages. But remember, no matter how early children start learning a language, they can lose their language ability if they don’t continue to use and practice the language as they grow. Language is like anything else if you don’t use it, you lose it!

Old Wives' Tales Proven Untrue
We all grew up with sayings that were intended to frighten us into being good or convince us to eat better.Looking back, some of these childhood proverbs don’t even make much sense.(Ever hear the claim that swallowed gum stays in your stomach for seven years? Uh-huh, sure.)However, there are quite a few out there that people still believe in.That's why we decided to investigate some common old wives' tales to see how they hold up under scientific scrutiny. From the moon's affect on crimes to the true causes of colds, this list is sure to surprise even the most enlightened among you.
61.
False: Countless kids were scared into thinking that if they went back in the water less than 60 minutes after eating, they would suddenly cramp up (the muscles get suddenly tightened) and drown. But according to MayoClinic.com, it's perfectly safe to swim after you eat a light meal or snack. The site does recommend taking a short break after eating a big meal, however, not because of cramping, but due to extreme lack of energy. As is known to us all, after eating, more of our blood goes to help the digestive system.
62.
Partially True: This saying has been around since before the discovery of an apple's vital nutrients: Vitamin C and polyphenols.Regardless, the core of the matter is that while this fruit will help keep you well, it's not always enough to keep you out of the medical danger zone; When you're ill, your body requires nutrients from all the different types of food in a well-balanced diet, including fruits, vegetables, yogurt, protein and, of course, chicken soup.Only one kind of specific fruit or food can not solve all the problems.
63.
False: According to the National Weather Service, lightning can strike the same place numerous times, especially if it's a tall, pointed and isolated object. That is the reason why it was once used as a lightning laboratory. Lightning often strikes more than three miles from the thunderstorm and laughs at two inches of rubber!
64.
False: Neither wet nor dry hair significantly increases your chances of getting sick.WebM D.com says colds are solely caused when viruses are passed from one person to another, so you should be more concerned with how often you wash your hands, not your hair. A proper way to keep healthy is to develop good personal habits of life.Prevention is always the best cure, better than any drug and treatment.
65.
False: Many interesting things are thought to increase during a full moon emergency room visits, accidents, ability to have babies, werewolves.Almost all these phenomena are attributed to the Lunar Effect, which tries to link unusual, unbelievable, or unacceptable behavior and the phases of the moon. However, according to myth-buster and syndicated columnist, Cecil Adams, there is no truth at all behind the theory.

It’s natural to greet friends with a smile and a wave. ____36_______ But what happens if your
face and body send mixed messages? Would someone be more likely to believe the look on your face or the way you hold your body?
Scientists have recently tackled these questions. They found that when a person is looking at
your face, she might not believe what she sees of your body language doesn’t match the feeling that your face shows. 37 Previously, they had found that the tone of a person’s voice can be more important than the words that are spoken. For example, most people tend not to believe a person who says in a flat voice, “I’m so excited.”
When it came to emotions conveyed by facial expressions and body language, most scientists suspected that the face was more important. To test if this was true, psychologists from the Netherlands and Boston showed people a number of pictures of isolated faces and isolated bodies(with faces blurred out)that showed anger or fear. ___38_____
An angry face had low eyebrows and tight lips. A scared face had high eyebrow and a slightly open mouth. ____39_____ A scared body had arms forward and shoulders square, as if ready to defend.
These results told the researchers that mixed signals can confuse people. Even when people pay attention to the face, body language subtly influences which emotion they read.
40 And if you want to be understood, it helps to avoid sending mixed messages.
Studying such mixed messages is nothing new for scientists.
So, your body language is important for telling people how you feel.
Scientists feel new to study the mixed message that confuses people.
An angry body had arms back and shoulders at an angle, as if ready to fight.
Body language can sometimes be misunderstood in different culture backgrounds.
When you do this, your face and body work together to show your friends that you’re happy to see them.
They also showed pictures in which angry or scared faces were paired with angry or scared bodies.
