You probably know you should say “please” and “thank you” at restaurants. You probably know the rules of a library. You know you should respect and be nice to your classmates. But do you have music manners?
Keep It Down! You have to notice the volume of your music. You should not play your music so loud that everyone around you can hear it.Some people might even get angry.Usually, when you play the music loud on an MP3 player, other people can't hear the words of the song. They just hear a loud sound. No one wants to listen to this.Very loud music can also be bad for your ears.So even if you are alone when listening to your MP3 players, you shouldn't turn it up too high.
Take Them Off!You need to know when to turn your MP3 off and put it away.Libraries and schools don't allow MP3 players. There are other places, like museums, that don't have rules, but it would be rude to have your MP3 player on.Sometimes,it doesn't make sense to listen on your MP3 player at event. Why would you listen to music at a play,a movie or a sporting event? You would miss what is going on and others would wonder why you even came.
Take One Out!Once in a while,it's okay just to take out one earphone and not other.Imagine you are listening on your MP3 player when someone asks you the way.It would not be rude to take out one earphone, tell him the way,and put back the earphone and continue listening. You can also do this when you order food at a fast-food restaurant or when you answer the telephone and it's not for you.
It's Your Choice! There are times when you need to decide what is best. For example, some people can listen to music on their MP3 players when reading books, while others think it is disturbing. In cases like this, you need to do what seems right for you.

Even before my father left us,my mother had to go back to work to support our family.Once I came out of the kitchen, complaining,“Mom,I can't peel potatoes.I have only one hand.”
Mom never looked up from sewing.“You get yourself into that kitchen and peel those potatoes,” she told me,“And don't ever use that as an excuse for anything again!”
In the second grade, our teacher lined up my class on the playground and had each of us race across the monkey bars, swinging from one high steel rod to the next. When it was my turn,I shook my head. Some kids behind me laughed, and I went home crying.
That night I told Mom about it.She hugged me,and I saw her “we'll see about that” look. The next afternoon, she took me back to school. At the deserted playground,Mom looked carefully at the bars.
“Now,pull up with your right arm,” she advised. She stood by as I struggled to lift myself with my right hand until I could hook the bar with my other elbow(肘子).Day after day we practiced, and she praised me for every rung I reached.I'll never forget the next time, crossing the rungs,I looked down at the kids who were standing with their mouths open.
One night, after a dance at my new junior high,I lay in bed sobbing.I could hear Mom come into my room.“Mom,” I said, weeping,“none of the boys would dance with me.”
For a long time,I didn't hear anything. Then she said,“Oh,honey, someday you'll be beating those boys off with a bat.”Her voice was faint and cracking.I peeked out from my covers to see tears running down her cheeks. Then I knew how much she suffered on my behalf (为了我).She had never let me see her tears.

Nelson Mandela is respected and admired around the world. To South Africa he is a superstar. He is a hero who shocked the world by fighting for peace between races, even though he spent 27 years in the prison of the South Africa's white, racist regime(政权).
Mandela, who won the nation's first all-race elections after the fall of apartheid (种族隔离) in 1994,retired in 1999.But even now,he is as popular as ever.
His popularity has inspired an entire national industry. His portrait (肖像) has appeared at many places, including on some goods. His face has appeared on a South African coin,a district of a city was named in his honor and some business leaders hope to build a giant statue that looks like him—the Statue of Freedom. It would stand taller than New York's Statue of Liberty(自由女神像).
His popularity is similar to that of John F.Kennedy in the US or Winston Churchill in Britain, but few politicians today have achieved his level of admiration, said Tom Lodge, head of the Political Science Department of the University of the Witwatersrand.
“Sometimes it isn't completely appreciated what a skilled performer Mandela has been throughout his political career. He's a very, very clever man.”
However,he is far from perfect.
Most articles about his birthday, which appeared in every major South African newspaper on the day, briefly mentioned that Mandela did have shortcomings.
Then they returned to their following praises.
“Through the ages, the human race has had its icons(偶像)—men and women who rose above ordinary people to inspire their generations,” The Mail and Guardian Weekly said,“In_our_generation,the_god_brought_us_Nelson_Mandela.”

The older I get,the more I value friends, yet the less time, energy and enthusiasm (热情) I have in maintaining (维持) old friendships and building up new ones.
Sunny, one of my dearest friends at work, will leave the office next month for a better job.He is not my first friend from the office to say goodbye.Over the years, there have been a handful of workmates who became friends. In recent times,at least three others have also left. So,next month,I'll say goodbye to Sunny and I am left with one friend fewer at work. When Sunny told me that he was leaving,I sighed:“ With you gone,I will have hardly any friends left in the office!”
I began to think: At what point does a workmate become a friend? And,to take a step back, what does “friendship” mean?Indeed, what makes you form a friendship with a person, but not some other? If a friend is a person I feel completely comfortable calling up at 3 a.m. to get me out of trouble—as Sunny will do—then I don't have that many friends.Other than family members,I can depend on just one female friend and three,at best four, male friends. But then, maybe that's plenty. As someone said, one friend in a lifetime is much, two are many, three are hardly possible.
Friendships are different from relationships. You can be great friends with your partner,of course, but a relationship is so much more complex (复杂).It is not only about that wonderful feeling called love, but also a collection of emotions like jealousy, resentment (不满),anger, pain and despair(绝望).Friendship is simpler and fills you, mostly, with positive emotions—kindness, fondness, warmth and honesty. With a lover, you make demands and have expectations. But with a friend, you're cool. You don't really owe him anything,or have to explain much, because you demand nothing more from each other than pleasant company (陪伴) and an occasional listening ear.
Love,I read somewhere,is blind,but friendship closes its eyes.How true.
51.Recently,________have left the office.
A.3 of my workmates
B.a handful of my workmates

A.quite different B.exactly the same
C.more or less the same D.both true
53.By citing(引用)“Once friend in a lifetime is much,two are many,three are hardly possible.”,the writer implies “________”.
A.a true friend is hard to find
B.so many friends will bring you trouble
C.it's impossible to have three friends
D.making too many friends is no good for you
54.By writing this passage, the writer wants to tell us________.
A.one of his friends will say goodbye to him
B.you may make friends with your workmates
C.friendship is very precious(珍贵)
D.the difference between friendship and relationship

A.A friend must be able to get up at 3 in the morning.

On this point, people hold quite different views. Some believe it can help students reduce their stress and provide them with a stage to show themselves while others have totally opposite opinions. They think having a blog requires much time and energy which may affect their studies.
Personally,I am for students writing blogs.Nowadays, the Internet is playing an important role in our life.As high school students in the information age,it's important to make the most of this communication tool for better study and life.As a matter of fact, whether blogging is of harm depends on how we use it.If we can take advantage of blogging and meanwhile avoid its bad effects,we can surely benefit a lot from it.
