Marie sat on the rubble (瓦砾). It had been twelve hours since the earthquake happened. There were cries from Rene now. The 12-month-old was still alive.
Marie continued to pull at the large blocks of rock. From time to time she asked for help from a passerby, but the people who stopped could see how hopeless it was and they continued their trip.
Another twelve hours of no food, no water, no help — just the cries of her child. Her elder son Jean Paul, a three-year-old, sat quietly beside her.
As morning came again, she heard the sound of a helicopter (直升飞机). It passed slowly and was gone. Now, she sat and held Jean Paul in her arms. The three of them spent another night.
In the morning, a truck appeared at the end of the street. Four men in red walked towards her. Marie was not sure if she was just dreaming.
A woman came up and took Jean Paul to the truck. The men pulled on Marie to go with them. But she pointed at the rubble trying to explain that her younger son, Rene, was still alive under the house. The men looked at each other. Judging by the strong bad smell rising through the rubble, they thought that she was mad.
Then they heard something. It was the weak cry of a child. Immediately, the men began working. After an hour of lifting the large pieces, they were able to see Rene.
At last, Rene was rescued. He was quiet. His eyes were fixed on the sky. Marie touched his face and kissed his hands. Rene said in a low voice, “Mama.” Marie screamed and raised her hands to the sky.

Now, we answer a question from our listeners. Many want to know about the history of the number thirteen and why Americans consider this number to be bad luck.
It is not only Americans who consider this number to be unlucky, but also people around the world have the same idea about the number thirteen. Superstitions (迷信) are popular beliefs that are not based on reason or science. A person believes something brings good or bad luck.
This fear is so strong around the world that many tall buildings do not have a thirteenth floor. And many airports do not have a gate numbered thirteen. Even some cities and towns don’t have 13th Street.
Some experts say fears about this number come from ancient religious (宗教的) stories. One Norse myth (神话) is about twelve gods who were having a party. In the Christian book, the Bible, Judas is the thirteenth guest at the dinner called the Last Supper. Judas is the man who betrays (背叛) Jesus, leading to his death.
Many people around the world also consider Fridays that fall on the thirteenth day of a month to be especially bad luck.

As young children, we all had dreams of being something that would give us the chance to be a hero. As time moved on we may have changed what we were going to become, but the dream itself lives on. Heroes become something we read about or watch on television. However, many are heroes you have never realized. We have many heroes to thank.
Your mom who carried you around for nine months and suffered a lot in your birth is a hero. She protects, guides and serves you without complaint (怨言). You may hurt her, but she loves you all the same. Dads are heroes, as well. Maybe he hasn’t faced a lot of enemies, but he is ready to do so if called upon. Though he comes home from work tired, he tries to play games with you, teaches you how to be good, and helps you study. Like your mom, he loves you, and his love is unconditional (无条件的).
The teachers devote their lives to helping prepare children for the future. Doctors fight to keep us healthy. Policemen and firemen put their lives on the line to keep us safe. And let’s not forget the soldiers who keep the wolf away from the door every day. True heroes are those who go through life never giving their heroism any thought.
At the end of the day when you sit back and recall the hero you wanted to be as a child. Remember many are moms, dads, and common people. It’s the love, and devotion (奉献) that they show to their family, friends and people. Never forget the look on your son or daughter’s face when they look in your eyes as you put them into bed. They are looking at their hero.
51. In the writer’s opinion, many heroes are those .
A. who often appear on TV
B. who are very common
C. who face a lot of enemies
D. whom we read about
52. The examples of the moms and dads show they are .
A. happy, brave, careful and thoughtful
B. kind, smart, generous and reasonable
C. selfless, patient, hard and responsible
D. loyal, pleasant, painful and friendly
53. What does the underlined phrase “on the line” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. In danger.
B. On the front.
C. Out of order.
D. In order.
54. What is the good quality that the true heroes have?
A. They can afford to help the homeless people.
B. They never think of what they have given.
C. They aren’t afraid of anything dangerous.
D. They love their family members very much.

写作一
No one wants to feel like a failure, so to make one accept shortcomings can be difficult. This is especially true for some young children. They are so afraid of facing their shortcomings that they prefer to cover them with various excuses. As a result, this only makes things worse. In fact, accepting our shortcomings and having a positive attitude will help us to deal with our shortcomings in a healthy way. In other words, we should think of our shortcomings as a way to improve ourselves instead of something that stops us enjoying ourselves.

Almost everybody likes to watch movies. There are many types of movies. I enjoy seeing films which deal with issues in real life, such as love, relationships between people, and the most important, how to realize our dreams. The movie I like most is Forrest Gump. It is a story about a man who is unfortunately to be born with a low IQ and the muscle problem. People always think this kind of person can’t be successful in doing anything. But, instead, this man has achieved lots of success. This film makes me realize how lucky I am to be totally healthy and it also encourages me to work hard to achieve success. The moving story and the leading role’s great performance in the film are the main reasons why I like this film best.
