第一节 阅读下列材料,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
When I was 12 years old, my family moved to a slightly nicer neighborhood in the Prince George’s County. I wasn’t happy about the move. I liked my school and enjoyed riding the school bus; I had befriended (照顾) every dog in my old neighborhood and made good friends with them; and I would miss my special reading tree. Besides, we had only just moved to Maryland the year before.
Still, a new place to explore is always a good thing. Directly in front of our apartment building was a small wooded hill and that immediately became my domain (领地). I named a certain space “Buckingham Palace”, and didn’t allow anyone to disturb me there. A few years after I returned from my university in New Jersey to live in that neighborhood, only on the opposite side of the hill, I was pleased to share my palace with the friends who came to visit.
As I was not permitted to wander far without a good excuse, it took me slightly longer to discover the large field that was over a ridge (山脊) by the road. The field was, after all, in the opposite direction from my school and I had no reason to walk that way.
However, one day I did go off that way and happened to look down into the field and see, to my delight, lots of yellow flowers. The field was simply covered with them. Carefully, I began to climb down the ridge into the field, planning to pick a rose for my mother. Alas, I didn’t get far before the field of flowers rose and flew away. I had seen not a field of flowers but a garden of goldfinches (金翅雀).

When we first moved into our present home, the houses only had a chain-link fence (铁丝网围栏)between them. People behind us were older;their children were in their late teens, and we didn’t see them or hear from them much.
Time passed and a younger family moved in. While at first we thought this would be fun for the kids, it quickly became a pain. If one of our children had a birthday party the neighbors would line up their children along the back fence to watch. We would have invited their children if they had been of the same age. While our older children had parties the neighbor’s little kids would shout through the fence the entire time; we knew it was time to get a new fence.
When we built our fence next to the old one, they not only paid nothing for it, but watched us have it built. After we built our fence the mother of the house would call over and ask who was jumping on our trampoline (蹦床). She could only see the tops of their heads and couldn’t figure out who it was. Good people, just too much interest in us. Years later they rebuilt their houses and built a pretty fence between the houses next to the old one. They were not surprised that we didn’t want to pay for it. I have to admit their fence is much prettier than our wooden one.
Our yard is next to four other homes; each of the families has had his own home with a strong fence. We have left ours in place. While we love all our neighbors we are glad we have fences between each of us. Only in this way can we protect our little privacy (隐私), as fences certainly do make good neighbors.

B. they would invite his neighbor’s children to attend it
C. his neighbor’s children would shout behind the fence

B. With the fence his home could become safer.
C. They didn’t want their little privacy to be known.
D. The author’s family didn’t like their new neighbor.
48. How did the mother know the children were jumping on the trampoline?
A. She learned about it by telephoning.
B. She saw the tops of the children’s heads.
C. She heard the sound of the children’s jumping.
D. Her children told her about it.
49. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. The author’s neighbors all have built strong fences.
B. Old people living behind liked children very much.
C. The young neighbors wanted the author to pay for the fence.
D. The young neighbors were very angry about the author’s ugly fence.
50. We can guess from the passage that .
A. the young mother of the house was interested in other families’ life
B. the neighbor of the author started to live there when the author was very young
C. the author thinks that the fences destroy the friendship between the neighbors
D. the author’s family was not a big one when the younger family moved here

During an earthquake, you should need to know a thing or two on what to do. If the earthquake strikes while you’re inside a house, you should lie on the floor and take cover under a strong table or other furniture. If there is no furniture you can cover your head with your arms and keep still in the corner of the room. You should remain away from windows, glass walls, or anything that can fall.
If you are in bed, stay still. Hold firmly onto your bed and make use of a pillow (枕头) to safeguard your head. You may use a doorway or shelter but only when it is close to you. It should also be considered whether it is strong enough to deal with the load. Do not use lifts, even when they work. Electricity may go out at any time. Many injuries happen when people try to rush out. This means you ought to stay still in your house or perhaps wherever you are.
When you are outdoors, you should be far away from buildings, power wires or lights. You should be in the open until the quake stops. Remember that many earthquake deaths outside the house come from debris (碎片), falling walls, flying glass and other falling objects. If an earthquake strikes and you are driving, you pull up to the side of the highway and stop as quickly as possible. You ought not to stop under trees, buildings or power wires. Don’t stop in the middle of the street since it could trouble others.
When trapped, you shouldn’t move. Your mouth should be covered with a piece of clothing or handkerchief. Do not shout whenever possible. Shouting should be employed at last to get help from rescuers. This is because it is possible for you to breathe some dirty dust.
51. If there is no furniture in the room you should stay .
A. near the window B. far from the door
C. in the center of the room D. in the corner of the room
52. What are you advised to do if you are in bed?
A. We should get up quickly and ask for help.
B. We should stay in bed with a pillow protecting our head.
C. We should get up quickly and rush out of the bedroom.
D. We should get up quickly and find something to protect ourselves.
53. Why are you advised not to use a lift?
A. The lift usually doesn’t work. B. We will probably be trapped in it.
C. Too many people are using the lift.
D. The building probably will fall down.
54. We can learn from this passage that .
A. some people may be attacked by debris or falling objects
B. when trapped we should shout for help loudly
C. during an earthquake we should stop our car in the middle of the street
D. if an earthquake strikes we should cover our head with a piece of clothing
55. The author writes this passage mainly to tell us .
A. a big earthquake may kill a lot of people
B. the safe ways of preventing an earthquake
C. how we survive an earthquake if it strikes
D. what we should prepare for a big earthquake
D
One of the first things you notice about different cultures while traveling is the wide variety of table manners. Western table manners can be completely opposite(相反的) to those in Eastern countries and can easily cause confusion. So when you are faced with something new, it is best to just go with the flow and give everything a try. Hopefully the locals will help you out. But we have found some countries that are particularly different that you should be prepared for!
In most Western countries, from an early age, people are taught it is impolite to make noises while eating. And you can even find people embarrassed when they accidentally slip out. But in some Asian countries, eating noises are accepted as a part of eating and sometimes considered as the sign of a delicious meal.
In the Philippines the general rule is to wait…and wait…and wait when dinning in a family’s home. It is polite to wait to be asked to sit for dinner, to wait to be shown where you should sit and to wait to be invited to start eating. This is very different from dining traditions in Afghan homes when they have guests present for a meal. The guests are invited to eat first, while the hosts wait patiently for them to finish eating, so they can eat whatever is left. This shows true patience and self-control. Ethiopia has a tradition which is called “gursha” and involves people feeding each other with their hands. The host starts by feeding his or her neighbor and then feeds everyone else in the circle. Once they are finished the next person in the circle does the same and so on and so on.
While experiencing new and different table manners on your travel you might also face new and different local food. In Japan people eat puffer fish(河豚) which is highly poisonous. Maybe one of the most expensive soups can be found in China where they charge $30 to $100 for Birds Nest Soup. It is expensive because the birds only built their nests 3 times a year and are mostly built in coastal caves, making collecting difficult. But one of the strangest meals, which is as popular in the Philippines as the hot dog is in America, is Balut. It is a duck egg which is boiled just before the hatching(孵出) date, so you get an egg and chicken all in one.
All of the above might seem strange to some people but to the locals, this is a part of everyday life and that is what makes traveling so special. Go out and experience something new, even if it is strange and challenging. What are your strangest eating experiences and would you dare to eat a Balut?
56. What does the underlined part “go with the flow” in Para. 1 mean?
A. Ask other people for advice. B. Do what other people are doing.
C. Stay away from the new things. D. Praise the new things a lot.
57. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A. Some different local food.
B. The most popular food in some counties.
C. The most expensive food in China.
D. The Balut in the Philippines.
58. It is important for guests to keep patient when dinning in a home in .
A. the Philippines B. Afghanistan
C. Ethiopia D. America
59. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Eating noises are accepted as a sign of a delicious meal in some Western countries.
B. The guest in a Philippine home will be the last to eat.
C. It is polite for a guest to feed the host when dinning in a home in Ethiopia.
D. The hot dog is as popular in the Philippines as it is in America.
60. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Things you must notice while traveling
B. What makes traveling so special?
C. Table manners from different cultures
D. How to prepare for different table manners
第二节 下面文章中有5处(第56-60题)需要添加小标题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合各段意思的小标题。选项中有一项是多余选项。
A. Pick a study area.
B. Show an interest.
C. Set a regular time.
D. Remove distractions.
E. Set a good example.
F. Provide enough supplies and resources.
Do you think education and homework are important?
Children need to know that homework is important. If so, they have a good reason to complete homework on time. There is a lot you can do to show that you value education and homework.
61.
Finding a regular time for homework helps children finish homework. The best schedule is one that works for your child and your family. What works well in one household may not work in another. Of course, a good schedule depends in part on your child’s age, as well as individual needs. For instance, one child may work best in the afternoon after an hour of play, and another may work best after dinner.
62.
A study area should have lots of light, supplies and be fairly quiet. A study area doesn’t have to be fancy. A desk in the bedroom is nice, but for many children the kitchen table or a corner of the living room works just fine.
63.
For starters, collect pencils, pens, erasers, writing paper, an exercise book, and a dictionary. Other things that might be helpful include glue, maps, a calculator, a pencil sharpener, tape, a ruler, cards and so on. Keep these items together in one place if possible. If you can’t provide your child with needed supplies, check with the teacher. For books and other information resources (资源), check with the school library or local public library.
64.
Children are more likely to study if they see you reading, writing, and doing things that require thought and effort on your part. Talk with your children about what you’re reading and writing even if it’s something as simple as making the shopping list. Tell them what you do at work. Encourage activities that support learning.
65.
Make time to take your child to the library to check out the needed materials for homework. Read with your child as often as you can. Talk about school and learning activities in family conversations. Ask your child what is discussed in class that day. If he doesn’t have much to say, try another way. For example, ask your child to read aloud a story he wrote or discuss the results of a scientific experiment.

I was happy to take part in the Earthquake Science Summer Camp. It was held in Tangshan from August 10th to August 20th, 2012, mainly to help us understand the basics of earthquake science and learn the earthquake escaping skills.
Firstly, we went to visit the earthquake museum where we got the basic knowledge of earthquakes. After that, we visited the people who experienced earthquakes. We brought the results of our surveys and shared with each other. Finally, we practiced a quake drill to learn escaping skills in earthquakes.
It was really a meaningful and educational camp from which we learned a lot about earthquakes.
