Melanie was born with spina bifida, a condition that rid her of the ability to walk. All her life, she had been using a wheelchair to get around. Trevor, on the other hand, has been blind since he was born.
The two ran into each other at an adaptive rock climbing class. They soon learned that they shared a common love for nature. Knowing all of this, the pair came up with a brilliant idea—with their strengths combined, they would climb the mountains of Colorado together!
Before the start of each journey, Melanie, secure in carrier, is hoisted by a friend or a fellow hiker onto Trevor’s back. Her role is to give verbal directions to her partner as they pass through the trail. “I describe everything I see and exactly how Trevor needs to move,” Melanie said of their hiking method. “It just seemed like common sense,” she told Good Morning America. “He’s the legs, I’m the eyes—boom! Together, we’re the dream team.”
To them, the best part about hiking as a pair is that they get to give each other the chance to accomplish something that others might believe is impossible.
“It made me so happy to help someone experience what I’ve been able to experience my whole life. Just getting on top of a mountain, you just feel that sense of accomplishment. The best part is being able to make her smile. That gives me purpose,” Trevor said.
As for Melanie, she says that the activity also gives her the feeling of freedom. “I’ve been in a wheelchair my whole life, and it’s an amazing feeling to leave it miles behind on the trail. I even couldn’t get in it if I wanted to, and that’s a great feeling,” she said.
24.What do we know about Melanie and Trevor
A.They are born disabled.

C.They show no interest in outdoor activities.

A.Caught. B.Raised. C.Removed. D.Pushed.
26.What does Trevor think of hiking with Melanie
A.He thinks it meaningful. B.He gets the feeling of freedom.
C.He thinks the experience amusing. D.He feels it his duty to help Melanie.
27.What’s the topic of the text
A.Two people worked together as a team.
B.Hiking as a pair proved to be successful.
C.Two disabled teamed up for hiking adventures.
D.A blind man helped a woman who couldn’t walk.

In winter, intense cold in China’s Jilin Province can turn tripping water into ice within seconds. Yet, 63-year-old Ren Jianguo gets up early every day to spread corn on the riverbank to make sure thousands of migratory birds (候鸟) have food to go through the cold days.
Ren lives in Jilin City which is built on the banks of the Songhuajiang River. Over the past 26 years, he has been one of the many volunteers protecting migratory birds on the river’s Changbai Island. Local residents label him as “Uncle Bird”. Winter is the busiest time for Uncle Bird as it is the season when large amounts of migratory birds fly here to avoid the biting cold days in Siberia, Russia.
On the upper reaches of the Songhuajiang River is Northeast China’s largest artificial lake. The temperature of the water stays at around 4-10℃ all year round. This allows Changhai Island to welcome countless migratory birds.
“As long as they choose to stay in this city, there should be people to take care of them. When it becomes difficult to find food in winter, I call for donations or sometimes pay for the food myself to secure their survival during the winter,” Ren said.
Jilin City, which is part of the migratory passage of birds in East Asia, is one of the few warm wetlands in northern China suitable for migratory birds to rest. To improve the environment here, the Chinese government has invested about 26.6 billion yuan for water pollution control and prevention along the Songhuajiang River since 2006.
For Ren, a small house near the riverbank has almost become his “second home”, a place from which he can patrol(巡逻) along the banks, observe birds, educate the public about bird conservation and, after a long day of work, light a fire and enjoy a warm meal.
“I simply want this to be a warm and welcoming place for birds when they choose to stay here for a temporary rest,” he said.
28. Why does Ren Jianguo volunteer to protect migratory birds
A. To keep himself from being bored.
B. To keep the birds from flying away.
C. To keep the birds from going hungry.
D. To keep the environment from being polluted.
29. Why do the birds come to Changbai Island in the winter
A. To eat high-quality corns.
B. To see kind-hearted volunteers.
C. For a cleaner environment.
D. For a better temperature.
30. Which of the following best describes Ren Jianguo’s work
A. Boring. B. Professional.
Dangerous. D. Meaningful.
31. What is the best title of this passage

B. The Environment of Changbai Island.
C. The Survival of Birds.

Despite what so many people would love to believe, NASA hasn't discovered any evidence of past or present intelligent life on Mars. So, when the Curiosity rover(好奇号探测器)found something suspicious on the Red Planet's surface, they were not only surprised but also a little bit worried.
The thin fragment (碎片) was suspicious enough to guarantee its own name, with NASA's Curiosity rover team calling it the "Pettegrove Point Foreign Object Debris," named for the location where it was discovered. With no idea what it was or where it came from, the rover's handlers began to worry that it might actually be a piece of the rover itself, suggesting some unseen damage or other issue with the robot. Thankfully, those concerns seem to have been unfounded.
In a new update from NASA the object has now been identified as a natural piece of rock rather than a piece of any man-made craft or vehicle. The team analyzed the bizarre object with a tool called the ChemCam RMI. The instrument uses a laser (激光器) to sniff out the makeup of anything it's pointed at, and the results for this particular piece of debris revealed that it's actually just a very thin piece of rock.
NASA describes the inspection:The planning day began with an interesting result from the previous plan's ChemCam RMI analysis of a target that was referred to as "Pettegrove Point Foreign Object Debris" (PPFOD), and speculated to be a piece of spacecraft debris. In fact it was found to be a very thin flake of rock, so we can all rest easy tonight—Curiosity has not begun to shed its skin!
How this particularly thin sliver of rock got to where it is—and why it seems to be a different colour than the surrounding sand and debris —remains unexplained* but at least the rover isn't falling apart.
32. What attitude does NASA hold towards the newly found thin fragment
A. Positive. B. Surprised.
C. Interested. D. Amazed but worried.
33. What is the "Pettegrove Point Foreign Object Debris" named for
A. Its finder. B. Its location.
C. Its researcher. D. Its shape.
34. What does the underlined word “bizarre” mean
A. Strange. B. Changeable.
C. Normal. D. Common.
35. Which of the following questions has got clear answer
A.How this particularly thin sliver of rock got to where it is.
B.Why it seems to be a different colour than the surrounding sand and debris.
C. Whether the rover is falling apart.
D. None of them.

第四部分 写作(满分25分)
The frightening day of our diving (跳水) test was here. Our parents thought we were lucky to have an Olympic-size swimming pool at the school. My mom stressed that the swimming pool was one of the best in our city. But I didn’t feel happy about it at all. Instead, I felt afraid of the swimming pool. It was mainly because I was terribly shy.
I was so shy that I always sat at the back of the room in class so I’d not be called upon to read. As for the present physical education class each Monday morning, I would work my way to the back of the line forming at the diving board so I would not have to practice the dives.
Now, it was another Monday morning—the morning of our diving test. My blood ran cold when the teacher Ms. Robbins announced that we would be graded for our final on the most difficult dive—the jackknife. And she added, “This diving test is important. The one who fails has to spare time in the following Monday mornings to practice diving in this swimming pool and attend this test again.”
My body kept shaking with fear as the line to the scary diving board shortened. As I watched, each student seemed to perform the challenging dive effortlessly. And shortly I would have to attempt something that I had never even practiced before.
Then I remembered someone telling me that when you picture yourself doing a skill over and over, it’s just as effective as physically practicing that skill. So I watched carefully as each classmate jumped at the end of the board once, added a jump for height, folded their body in half to reach for their toes, and finally straightened out like an arrow for going into the water. After carefully watching for a while, I was actually in a state of surprise, because all of a sudden I realized that it was possible for me to perform these four steps of diving.
Eventually all classmates except me finished jumping. The teacher announced that it was my turn.
注意:1. 续与词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end.

写作【答案】
One possible version:
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end. Looking down, I found all my classmates were looking up at me. My face suddenly felt hot. Finally, I ignored them. Picturing the four steps of diving, I jumped. Then I folded my body but failed to reach for my toes. And instead of entering the water like an arrow, I fell into the water, with my body being flat. As a result, it caused a huge sound, which made all the classmates burst out laughing.
Knowing I failed, I climbed out of the pool, embarrassed. After class, Ms. Robbins comforted and encouraged me. In the following many Monday mornings, I practiced again and again under her guidance. Gradually, I became more confident and less shy. Finally, I attended the diving test again and performed well. This time, my classmates cheered and clapped. I was so glad. I knew my success resulted from my beating my shyness and my hard practice.【导语】本文以人物为线索展开,讲述了作者害怕游泳池。这主要是因为自己非常害羞。这天老师宣布要进行考试,而且要根据最难的跳水动作进行期末评分,虽然作者最后失败了,但在老师的鼓励下再次参加了潜水考试,并取得了很好的成绩。
