Sam just came back from a vacation in Anchorage. Anchorage is the largest city in the state of Alaska in the United States, famous for its cold winters.

In recent years, people are becoming more and more concerned(关心) about their health. To record how many steps they walk every day, they either use fitness trackers(追踪器) or fitness apps. However, a company in China seems to take things too far.
It is a real estate(房地产) company in Guangzhou. Employees(员工) at this company are required to walk at least 180,000 steps every month. There is no reward for achieving the goal. However, those who fail to reach the target(目标) will be fined(罚款) 0.01 yuan for every step they missed.
In fact, often working overtime made it difficult for staff(员工) to walk at least 6,000 steps a day outside of working hours. One employee said that she walked 10,000 steps fewer than what was required last month. The manager deducted(扣除) money from her salary(工资). Although that was only 100 yuan, for an ordinary employee, every single yuan is important.
"I understand that the company wants to encourage us to get more exercise," she said.

This is not the first case of a company introducing a walking rule. In January 2017, a technology company in Chongqing was reported to force its staff to walk 10,000 steps a day.
