This summer, the temperatures were very high in Europe. Firefighters fought against hundreds of wildfires in many European countries. And hundreds of people died because of the heat wave.
However, according to a survey, only about 20% of homes in Europe have air conditioners, compared to 90% in the US. Why is that
First, usually it isn't very hot in Europe in summer because of its location. Europe is located farther north than the US, making the weather cooler. The average temperature in July in London is 24℃, which is 10 degrees cooler than that in New York.
Second, there are many old houses in Europe. More than half of the houses in Europe were built in the last century. The weather then was not as hot as it is
nowadays. Naturally, air conditioners were unnecessary. What's more, those old houses' structure (构造) and material make it harder and more expensive to _install_ air conditioners. Installing an air conditioner could cost more than the air conditioner itself.
As for other reasons, they can be very personal. Some people think air conditioners make them sick, so they don't accept air conditioners. Some think using air
conditioners produces greenhouse gases. It is bad for the environment and makes the weather even hotter!
But things will probably change in the coming years. With higher and higher temperatures, more and more Europeans are considering air conditioners these days.

26-year-old Lyu Jiangtao is a student of Qinqiang at Shaanxi Opera Research Institute. Influenced by his parents, Lyu developed an interest in Qinqiang when he was little, and he has been learning it for many years.
续表
Qinqiang is an old local opera that is popular in Shaanxi, as well as its neighboring areas, such as Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, and Xinjiang. The opera started from local folk songs and dance forms in the Yellow River Valley of Shaanxi and Gansu—the birthplaces of Chinese culture, and it dates back to the Qin Dynasty. Because of its long history, Qinqiang is regarded as the traditional opera in northwest China.
续表
However, for most teenagers, it wouldn't be their first choice to decide on a career as a performer of Qinqiang. “To tell the truth, fewer and fewer people are learning Qinqiang,” Lyu said with a sigh (叹息). “But this art form has to be passed on. Its culture and its spirit should never be forgotten.”
续表
Learning the basic skills of Qinqiang is very difficult. “I had injuries and accidents. I cried. I had fights with my parents. That happened a lot,” said Lyu. “But opera performers have to go through these difficulties in order to master the opera.”
续表
Now, Lyu is good at Qinqiang, and more and more people start to enjoy his performance. “It doesn't matter how much money I make,” he said. “I've loved it since I was little, and I will pass it on.”

China is a country with a long history and colorful culture. To spread Chinese culture, we are supposed to provide as many cultural exchange activities as possible. What's more, setting up Confucius schools all over the world is also a good idea. At the same time, attracting more foreign visitors to China to experience Chinese culture will be another way to show our culture.
THANKS!
