学情分析
教学目标 Language Competence Students are asked to grasp the related words, expressions and the structure “by+v-ing”: pronounce increase speed partner spoken English make mistakes. Sentence patterns: 1) I can’t pronounce some of the words. 2) I can’t always understand spoken English. 3) I don’t know how to increase my reading speed. 4) I can’t spell some English words. 5) I often make mistakes in grammar. Through the listened and the spoken dialogues, the students are asked to know how to talk about “how to learn” and know the importance of good study methods and can use the effective methods to guide the following study. After the group work, the students are trained to feel the sense of cooperation and get the sense of satisfaction from it.
Cultural Consciousness Help students self-check to find their own learning methods, so as to achieve efficient learning.
Thinking Quality Through listening and speaking activities, students are able to obtain key information and express how to learn English efficiently. Also, learn to explore, communicate and share with people and improve the logic of thinking, critical and innovative.
Learning Ability By talking about how to learn English, students can arouse interest in English learning and classify learning needs and goals: actively communicate with others and reflect on progress and shortcomings in English learning, and try to find out the reasons and solve them.
重难点
重点 Words, expressions and the structure by”by+v-ing”. Listen and understand the conversation connected with the topics and use them in the life basically. Know the importance of grasping good learning methods.
难点 Put the learned words, expressions and by+v-ing into the topic of“how to learn” and use freely. Use the learned ways and strategies to guide the future’s study.

Step 1. Revision & lead-in. Present some pictures about English learning methods. Have a free talk about English learning based on the pictures T provided. T: How do you learn English Sa: I learn English by watching English movies. T: How does he/she learn English Sb: She learns English by working with friends. Step 2. Lead-in. T: What’s wrong with the boy Ss: He seems to have some problems in learning English. Look at the pictures and try to describe the difficulties. Sa: He can’t pronounce some of the words. Sb: She can’t understand spoken English. T: Do you like English Do you think learning English is difficult What things are difficulties for you in learning English Explain some words to make sure Ss can understand the statements clearly. Ask Ss to make a list of other problems they may have. Step 3. Pre-listening. Look at the information from the tables. T: What may the people talk about Provide some choices for Ss to predict the general idea of the conversation. Step 4. While-listening. Listening for challenges. Ask Ss to listen to the recording carefully in order to find out the detailed information about challenges and solutions. When checking answers, remind them to pay attention to the spelling and structure, like pronunciation and listening. Listening for detailed information. For the third and fourth time, listen again and answer the questions. Ask Ss to listen again and record the answers to the questions. T: What’s the relationship between the two persons T: Can Paul study the words on the subway T:What does Ms. Manson suggest in listening T: When the English club begin Step 4. Post-listening. Role-play. Work in pairs and make conversations about problems and advice. Ask Ss to role-play the conversations using the information in 1c and 1d. Walk around the classroom and offer help if necessary. Then invite some pairs to show in class. 2.Discussion. T: What’s your advice to Paul T: Think about your problems in English learning and try to find the solutions. Work in groups and have a discussion about their advice and solutions. Three minutes later, some Ss report their results in class. Sa: We think ... In my group, Alice has problems in reading. We advise her to ... Step 5. Conclusion. Have a summary of what we have learned with the help of T. Do some exercises.
