Anna Brown was an artist who believed that it was important to help others. When she heard of a summer camp for children with serious illnesses, she came up with an idea. It cost money for these kids to go to the camp, so Anna decided to see what she could do to help. It was impossible for her to donate a lot of money, so she had to think of another way.
She wanted to take advantage of her love of art. So she started making and selling beautiful cards to raise money for these kids. Because these cards were all handmade, it would take her a long time to make a lot of them. So Anna had another idea. She started inviting friends to her house to help her make the cards. At first her friends rejected. Many said that they were not artistic and didn’t know how to make cards. But once
they saw the beautiful materials that she had in her workroom, her friends felt more comfortable doing things such as drawing and cutting in order to make a new card.
But the materials were expensive. To make money without spending money, Anna asked for and got donations of paper, glue, scissors, and other things from nearby stores. She sold her cards for three dollars each

When you and your friends turn to (求助) each other to talk about problems or troubles, you give each other advice and help. One important thing of our growth is to make decisions to help our friends and learn to support each other. This requires us to learn what it means to help friends and how to help them in right ways.
The first step toward helping others is to identify that they need help. We all know that difficulties are part of our daily lives. However, sometimes small things can lead to more serious problems that require more help. It’s important to make sure when to help a friend. For example, you may pick up some signs that your friends are not acting like themselves. These signs show they may not be well.
The next step toward helping others is to listen. Paying attention to others while listening is very important throughout our life. When we communicate with others, we need to learn when to speak and when not to. As listeners, we should try to understand what the speakers are feeling or experiencing and try to see things from their perspectives(视角). Listening and paying attention to others when they speak is a sign of
respect and a skill that will lead to deeper and better relationships.
A friend in need is a friend indeed. Make sure when to help a friend and listen to him carefully. And then you can give him useful advice and help him in a right way. (2022广州改编)

Have you ever thought of what life is like for old people Have you ever helped old people who live alone Can they get help when they need it
Six students from Beijing 101 Middle School looked deeper at this question and wrote a proposal (提案) to the China Youth Model Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (全国青少年模拟政协活动).
They advised to build more old people’s service stations in the neighborhood. They also gave suggestions about how governments, neighborhoods and hospitals can work together to make this happen.
An old people’s service station is different from a nursing home. It offers things like daytime care, cooking, cleaning and friendship to old people who live in their own homes. The students surveyed more than
1,100 people, about 90 percent of them said they would prefer using the stations’ services to moving into a nursing home. However, there are not enough of these stations, and many are not run very well.
The six students came up with a solution after reading more than 60 surveys, interviewing 108 people and visiting 25 different organizations. Their proposal was so terrific that it beat out almost 100 others to win the Best Proposal award in 2021.
“This experience helps me to better understand the importance of caring old people,” said Xu Wanqing, one of the girl students.
“Taking part in the China Youth Model CPPCC has been good for students,” agreed their teacher Li Jie. “They’ve developed a sense of caring old people, as well as gotten more confidence about themselves since they’ve seen how much they can do for others. ”(2022遂宁改编)

The clock had already struck midnight. Zhang Yong’s phone, however, was still buzzing and beeping busily. The messages were all from food suppliers(供应商). The man carefully read each one of them. He was trying to get enough food for thousands of people in his neighborhood.
Shanghai suffered from a serious COVID-19 outbreak in March. Zhang volunteered in his neighborhood to help people out after the outbreak. After days of lockdown, many families began to run out of food. It was hard for them to order food
online because there were not enough delivery(送货)drivers. Group buying worked better. But it required a coordinator(统筹者). As the youngest among all the volunteers in the neighborhood, Zhang decided to take on the role.
He began by ordering 600 boxes of milk for his neighborhood. After this success, more and more people joined his WeChat group and depended on him for their food supplies. It was tiring to coordinate all the deliveries. Zhang
had to collect money, contact food suppliers and organize volunteers to deliver the goods. Sometimes, the number of buyers falls short. Other times, some members don’t pay on time. Zhang often couldn’t go to bed until 2 a. m. and he had to get up at 6 a. m. to order goods. However, he feels happy to be able to help others.
You are lucky if you’ve been well fed in the past several weeks. But you must not forget all the hard efforts behind your food.
