We've all experienced positive and negative moods. The emotions we feel play an important role in how we think and behave. For one thing, people who are often in a positive mood in their everyday life tend to be happier, healthier and get along better with others. For another, a bad mood can ruin your day, as well as the day of the people around you.
So, what causes a bad mood There are a variety of reasons for them. For example, we may get into a bad mood because of failing an exam. We may feel down after receiving some bad news or quarreling with our parents or friends. At the same time, too much pressure from work can also makes us unhappy.
However, there are many things we can do to turn our bad mood into a good one. As far as I’m concerned, exercise is one of the keys to get rid of a bad mood. Meanwhile, the simple act of sharing time with others is a great way to release stress and anxiety. So the next time you’re feeling blue, call up a friend or visit a neighbor.列五高级中学校2022-2023学年高二下学期6月阶段性考试(三)

Age is just a number. Is 80 the new 40
Manfred Steiner
He didn’t really need another Ph. D. degree as he already had two. He was trained as a doctor, and had been a professor of medicine. But after he retired, he realized he finally had time to do something he’d always wanted to do-study physics. In September, 2021, at 89, he earned his physics Ph. D. He encourages young people who have a dream to “follow that dream” enthusiastically.
M. J. Eberhart
In early November, 2021, at 83, he became the oldest person to hike the full Appalachian Trail (AT). The 3, 530 kilometer hiking trail isn’t easy, even for younger people. For the last few miles of this hike, he was joined by Dale Sanders, who set the same record when he hiked the AT at 82.
Julia Hawkins
In 2021, at 105, she ran the 100-meter dash in just over 62 seconds. Before that year, there wasn’t even a category for female runners over the age of 104. But running isn’t her main sport — she’s been biking for most of her life. But she took up running a few years ago and set her first world record in 2017. Encouraging others to be active is a big part of what keeps her running.
Harriette Thompson
She ran her first marathon at 76. She’s completed her 15 marathon. At 91, she’s the oldest woman ever to compete in the Suja Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon and the second-oldest marathon runner in U. S. history. She finished the race in 7 hours,7 minutes, and 42 seconds, breaking the U. S. record for the fastest time in her age group.

A. He was occupied with work. B. He didn’t like medicine at all.
C. He taught himself physics. D. He received 3 doctor’s degrees.
22. Who set the world record twice

Howard Schultz wasn’t the first person to be carried away by the pleasant smell of a well-roasted coffee bean. But the Starbucks Coffee Co. leader was undoubtedly the first to turn that dream into a billion dollar retail business.
Schultz’s adventure started in 1981 when he traveled from New York to Seattle to check out a popular coffee bean store called “Starbucks”. It had been buying many of the Hammarplast Swedish drip coffeemakers (滴滤式煮咖啡壶) he was selling.
There was that great smell, sure, but what caused him to fall in love with the business was the care the Starbucks owners put into choosing and roasting the beans. He was also impressed with the owners’ devotion to educating the public about the wonders of the coffee.
It took Schultz a year to convince the Starbucks owners to hire him. When they finally made him director of marketing and operations in 1982, he had another idea. This one occurred in Italy, when Schultz noticed the coffee bars that existed on almost every block. He learned that they not only served excellent espressos (蒸馏咖啡), they also served as meeting places or public squares, and there were 200,000 of them in the country.
But when he came back to Seattle, the Starbucks owners resisted Schultz’s plans to serve coffee in the stores, saying the restaurant business was competitive, and it was costly to hire waiters. After all, economic benefits were their primary motivator. Frustrated, Schultz quit and started his own coffee-bar business in 1985, named “II Giornale”. It was successful, and two years later, the original Starbucks management sold its Starbucks retail unit to Schultz for $3.8 million.
As the company began to expand rapidly in the 1990s, Schultz always said that the main goal was “to serve a great cup of coffee”. Asked about the secret of his success, Schultz told us the principles: “Don’t be threatened by people smarter than promise anything but your core values.”
24. What caused Schultz to join the Starbucks
A. The pleasant smell of its coffee bean. B. His strong desire to improve himself.
C. The owners’ impressive work attitude. D. His eagerness to sell more coffeemakers.
25. Which of the following can best describe Schultz’s personality
A. Committed and generous. B. Sociable and helpful.
C. Motivated and considerate. D. Determined and creative.
26. Why did the Starbucks owners refuse to serve coffee in the stores
A. Many coffee bars had existed in Seattle.
B. People preferred tasting coffee at home.
C. Workforce was insufficient in the market.
D. They tried to avoid high cost of labor force.
27. What does Schultz think contributes to his success
A. Learning from smarter people. B. Sticking to his own core values.
C. Keeping his business a secret. D. Remembering a set of principles.

ChatGPT is a new AI system that sounds so human in conversations that it could host its own radio programs. Reading between its instantly generated, perfectly grammatical lines, people see different visions of the future. Without doubt, ChatGPT is impressive.
Some compare the emergence of ChatGPT to the impact of the iPhone, but that doesn’t do it justice. ChatGPT, as well as the generative AI that will follow and outsmart it, is more disruptive. And yet, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the world is upon us. On the contrary, ChatGPT, I would argue, might serve to make us more aware of our irreplaceable human qualities.
Take the creative act, writing in particular, as an example. If you want it to, the AI-powered chatbot always produces something because it has the whole world of online data to draw from. But unlike us, it lacks the consciousness. Thinking is hard, critical thinking even harder, and ChatGPT isn’t good at either. It just restates what has already been said; it is one big recycling machine.
There is another obvious limitation of ChatGPT. Philosopher Harry Frankfurt once claimed: the difference between a bullshitter (胡说八道的人) and a liar is that the liar knows what the truth is but decides to take the opposite direction; a bullshitter, however, has no regard for the truth at all. The AI scholar Gary Marcus applies this distinction to ChatGPT. He believes that we have reached a critical point when “the price of bullshit reaches zero and people who want to spread misinformation, either politically or just to make a profit, start doing that plentifully”. Unfortunately, ChatGPT will reproduce misinformation from any of its input sources — it is not an intelligent system that tries to balance or weight different perspectives. In this sense, everything that ChatGPT writes is bullshit.
This is why the so-called AIQ is critical. It is actually an extension and a measurement of our human IQ: our overall knowledge of AI tools, our mastery of clues, and our ethical awareness. ChatGPT is going to change everything and nothing. Creativity, imagination and ethics — these will all remain unique human domains. It is the AI’s very limitations that will make us appreciate our own.
28. What can we learn about ChatGPT
A. It helps generate an artificial voice. B. It provides instructions on writing skills.
C. It generates natural language responses. D. It offers a service for language learning.
29. What does the underlined word “disruptive” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Evil. B. Comparable. C. Profitable. D. Revolutionary.
30. Why does the author consider ChatGPT as a bullshit generator
A. It makes up lies constantly. B. It can’t tell right from wrong.
C. It often makes unfair judgement. D. It always takes a neutral standpoint.
31. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. ChatGPT Makes Us Human
B. ChatGPT Is Causing Panic Now
C. ChatGPT: Treat It Like a Toy, Not a Tool
D. ChatGPT:Why It Is Bound to Generate Bullshit

Cockatoos(凤头鹦鹉)can combine multiple tools to complete a complex task, an achievement scientists previously thought only chimpanzees and humans could do, a new study reveals. In a recent study published in the journal Current Biology, researchers showed that cockatoos could use tools as a set, and can even carry the tools around with them when the situation calls for it.
In the first experiment, the birds had to obtain seeds in a box from behind a clear membrane(薄膜)by using a short, pointy stick to break open the barrier, before fishing out the seeds with a long plastic straw(吸管).Seven out of the 10 cockatoos in the study successfully extracted the seeds, and two of those seven completed the task within 35 seconds on their first attempt, which astonished researchers.
Next, researchers conducted the second experiment using separate boxes with and without a membrane.“The cockatoos had to act according to the problem; sometimes the toolset(成套工具)was needed, and sometimes only one tool was enough,” said study lead author Antonio Osuna-Mascaró,an evolutionary biologist at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna in Austria. All of the cockatoos were able to recognize when a single tool was sufficient(足够的).
Finally, the team wanted to find out if the cockatoos could transport their toolset with them. They put the cockatoos through a series of increasingly challenging trials to reach the boxes: first they had to climb a short ladder while carrying their tools; then they had to fly with them. Just like before, only some of the boxes had a membrane barrier, so the birds had to decide whether the problem required them to decide in advance to transport one of the tools or both of them. Most of the cockatoos jammed(塞入) the stick inside the straw and carried it as a single item in their mouths on an as-needed basis, further indicating that they knew ahead of time when two tools were required.
32.What did cockatoos do in the first experiment
A.They used the stick to break open the membrane.
B.They used the plastic straw to get fish out of the box.
C.They knew how to get seeds by learning from each other.
D.Most of them surprised researchers with their rapid speed.
33.What can we know about cockatoos according to the research
A.Cockatoos are the only known nonhumans to use a tool kit.
B.Cockatoos don't use the straw when the membrane isn't in the way.
C.Cockatoos know a plastic straw is sufficient if there isn't a membrane.
D.Cockatoos rarely know in advance when they should carry a toolset.
34.What is the best title for the text
A.Cockatoos Differ from Chimps in Using Multiple Tools
B.Cockatoos Improve Intelligence with a Set of Tools
C.Cockatoos can Distinguish a Single Tool from a Toolset
D.Cockatoos Know When to Use a Toolset to Get the Job Done
35.Where is the text most probably taken from
