课程设计理念：本节课是一节听说课，主要内容围绕着“Our Local Area”这一话题展开。新课标倡导教学设计要符合学生的心理特点，设置与实际生活贴近、生动形象、而又与课文相关的场景和学习内容，带动学生的积极性。依据该理念，本节课力求通过活动和情景设计，力求素材来自周边生活，使学生体验到切实的参与，主动、探究的融入学习，从而初步培养他们对“Our Local Area”话题的听说能力。
教材分析： 本节课所处的第三话题，是第六单元的最后一话题，是第一话题（介绍方位），第二话题（描述小区）的后续和综合运用，题目是How can I get to the library （问路指路）。同时，该课有时本话题的第一课，需要承上启下，在巩固旧知的同时，引出新话题，开启第三话题的学习。问路指路话题是学生初次在中学英语学习中接触，对话情景分为三部分，分别以AB对话的形式解决了陌生人问路的实际问题。在Section B部分中，学生们将更全面地学习问路指路的表达和运用，因此，本课的学习又是为进一步的学习做准备。

It’s about … meters along on the left..能力目标: 1. 学生能够快速运用一二话题所学知识介绍自己的地区。2. 学生能在教师的引领下说出自己身边的地点和方位。3. 学生可以读准并运用新单词和新句型进行交流。情感态度目标：乐于描述自己的家乡，并愿意用英语向陌生人提供帮助。 教学重点和难点：1.能够听辨出单元重点词汇、短语和句式，并能在情景交际中正确使用。 2.能够运用本课所学询问地点和路线并做出准确回答。
