Chinese Opera Cartoon Festival Kicks off Thursday

An art festival that calls attention to Chinese opera cartoons will kick off in Beijing on Thursday, Feb. 4th and run until Feb. 26th. The festival is prepared by the Chaoyang Cultural Center and the Culture and Travel
Office of Chaoyang, Beijing. The staff members are hoping the festival will get more foreigners and young people to learn more about traditional Chinese culture.
Classical Chinese operas, chosen from 360 kinds of operas in China, are made into cartoons, and will be shown to the public. The cartoon characters look lively and cute, which can quickly be loved by the public.
Activities will also be held during the festival, such as showing the primary posters and writings, and opera costumes.
Since the festival is mainly held online, people can take part in the activities by watching videos on online short-video platforms (平台) like Douyin and Huoshan Video, known as Tik Tok and Vigo Video outside China.
People can also enjoy a 360-degree wide view of the activities online. By clicking a mouse of a computer or using a mobile phone, people can choose wherever they like to view the activities at home.

Han Qian, worked to recruit（招募）volunteers for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. Fourteen years ago, he was a volunteer at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
“It' s my pleasure to take part in the two Olympics,” said Han. “Being a volunteer is different from organizing them, though both are great experiences. Organizing needs more thinking and planning, especially as we' re facing many new difficulties.”
Because of COVID-19, volunteers needed to be quarantined (隔离) before February 4th. This meant they had to give up more time for this job. As around 90% of the volunteers were university students, this could influence their schoolwork. So Han' s team worked together with schools to support the students as much as they could.
Han' s team also worked with schools to recruit students. “For example, volunteers from Tsinghua University work in the National Stadium, while those from Peking University take care of the National Aquatics Center,” Han said.
　 The cold weather was another difficulty, as some games were held outdoors. The outdoor volunteers needed to be trained, like 15-kilometer walks, to prepare for their work. The organizing group also provided hats, warm coats and other useful things for them.
“Many volunteers have developed interest in winter sports because of this experience,” Han said. “I' ve seen them post pictures of themselves skiing and skating. I' m happy that the volunteering experience is rewarding for them.”
