Dr. Josefina has recently published a book, Vibrant at Any Age, based on her lifelong journey of self-improvement. Josefina, 71, is glad she didn't think about her age when she took up bodybuilding at age 59.
"I reinvent myself every ten years, and so I started my 60s as a bodybuilder and now I begin my 70s as a writer," she said, "People limit themselves by age, which is very frustrating. Age is a mindset."
Dr. Josefina started bodybuilding at an age when most are considering retirement, though she was an athlete from an early age. As a child in Venezuela she took to gymnastics and later graduated with a physical education degree. She taught at Latin High School in Cambridge, for 16 years, while raising two daughters.
"I started bodybuilding when I met Steve Pfiester, a gym guy who knew I ran and practiced yoga. He invited me to his gym and offered to train me." she said.
Dr. Josefina's photos are proof that she spends long hours taking care of her body. But she also develops her mind and spirit. On any given day, she gets up at 3:00 am to read books. At 4:30 am she's out of the door to walk three miles and run another three. This is followed by yoga and a swim at the beach while the sun rises. After writing in her journal and working on her book between 8 and 10 am, Dr. Josefina hits the gym for at least two hours.
Dr. Josefina's fight against ageism has rubbed off on her two daughters, both in their early thirties. "They both take care of their bodies and minds. They're very proud of me. If you give them a good foundation as a parent, you know that they will always come back to their roots. I tried to remind myself of that during their difficult teen years."

In 2018, the state of California was on fire. Alexandria Villasenor, who was 13 at the time, witnessed the destruction of Northern California's Camp Fire, which would go on to burn more than 150,000 acres of land. Villasenor was scared. "That's when I found out how important climate education was," she reflected. "And just how much we lacked climate education these past couple of years."
Villasenor, now 15, is determined to have a bigger conversation. She quickly realized the fight requires international, government-level changes. For her, what started as local concern turned into a year-long protest (抗议) in front of the United Nations' New York City headquarters and a global campaign for more compulsory climate education. She sat on a bench in front of the headquarters, pleading for the world's leaders to take climate change seriously.
Her action received national attention, with millions of other students around the world joining in the movement. "It's completely unacceptable to not learn anything about our planet and our environment in school, after all the young people would 'inherit' the Earth." Villasenor said, "That's why I think that climate education is so important, and that's why I concentrate on it now."
Right now, Villasenor is working with the Biden-Harris administration on its climate plan, which has promised to center the needs of young people and communities most impacted by climate change. She even spoke at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. "That was definitely a huge moment when I realized that people were listening to the voices of me and youth climate activists," Villasenor said.
When she isn't connecting with her fellow youth activists or holding elected officials accountable to the climate concerns of their young voters, Villasenor is like most other teens. "My favorite thing to do, of course, is sleep." she said. "I like to read a lot. I like fantasy books, normally. I also like to write."

A. The current education system of California.
B. The vast land of California.
C. The severe Camp fire in California.

A. Villasenor thinks local people have taken climate change seriously.
B. Young people should do more things for the earth so as to inherit it.

3.Which of the following gives Villasenor a sense of achievement
A. More schools have set up climate courses.
B. She can sleep and read in her spare time.
C. She's working with the Biden-Harris administration on its climate plan.

In 1969, watching the landing of Apollo 11 on the Moon on TV from his parents' farm in Canada, Chris Hadfield was amazed and excited. On that day, at only nine years old, Chris made the most important decision of his life: He was going to be an astronaut.
There wasn't even a training program in Canada to become an astronaut; but Chris was determined. He spent a great deal of time studying and fixing engines. After school he joined the Canadian army where he learned to fly many different types of planes. Chris did a lot of research for the National Aeronautics and Space Admmistration (NASA) in the United States and had special training. Finally, in 1995 he rode his first rocket into space.
Chris became the first Canadian astronaut to walk in spare, and went on a number of space missions throughout his carcer. The most memorable was his five-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS) as commander, between December 2012 and May 2013. He posted on social media thousands of photos of Earth and videos of himself explaining how things work in zero gravity. His followers could watch him sleeping, brushing his teeth, washing his hands, or preparing "space" snacks in zero gravity, which turned him into a social media phenomenon.
Today, Chris travels the world giving talks about his work. He once said, "Decide in your heart of hearts what really excites and challenges you, and start moving your life in that direction. Every decision you make, from what you eat to what you do with your time tonight, turns you into who you are tomorrow. Look at who you want to be, and stan sculpting yourself into that person. You may not get exactly where you thought you'd be, but you will be doing things that suit you in a profession you believe in. Don't let life randomly kick you into the adult you don't want to become."

A. The life on his parents' farm. B. His ability to fly various planes.
C. Apollo 11's landing on the Moon. D. His passion for studying engines.

A. Courage is what it takes to overcome difficulties.
B. Opportunities go hand in hand with challenges.
C. From small beginnings coms, treat endings.
D. The key to success lies in the firm aim.
4.Which of the following best describes Chris
A. Strong-willed and hardworking. B. Adventurous and outgoing.

Lorena parted the curtain in her living room and looked out onto the wet street. She was relieved the sunlight appeared. If it didn't stop raining it would ruin her day. Her mother had promised to drive her to Fashion Fair if it were sunny. Lorena was eager to go there because she had to replace a Nike jacket.
Earlier that Wednesday afternoon, Eddie, the most popular seventh-grader, had given Lorena his jacket and asked her to keep an eye as he would play basketball in a hurry. Lorena was quite happy to be of help.
During her last class, the biology teacher made them cut apart dead frogs. For fear of getting blood on Eddie's jacket, Lorena folded it and placed it on a chair. Then she took the knife and cut the skin quickly. She felt sick opening the frog's belly.
When the bell rang Lorena hurried out because the bus she caught for home left ten minutes after school. She raced to board the bus and found a seat. After a few minutes the driver started the engine and drove away when Lorena looked out of the window and saw Eddie. "The jacket!" she screamed. She shot from her seat and ran up to the driver. "You've got to stop! I forgot Eddie's jacket!" "Who's Eddie " the driver said angrily. "Sit down."
All that evening she was upset and blamed her biology teacher for her problem. If he hadn't made them dissect(解剖) frogs, ,she wouldn't have been so absent-minded. The next day Lorena rushed from the bus to the biology room. The jacket was not there!
"How can I ever tell Eddie " she closed her eyes. She spent most of her break and lunch period in the rest room, brushing her hair and worrying. On Friday she stayed home to avoid Eddie. She told her mother she wanted to go shopping to buy her a gift for her birthday, which was the next week. Actually, she wanted to buy a Nike jacket with her life savings at Fashion Fair.

答案:①improving ②a ③has been ④specialist ⑤achievements ⑦how ⑧to deliver ⑨that ⑩safely ⑩agricultural
解析:①考查动名词。devote oneself to doing sth.
故填has been。

Mom drove Lorena to Fashion Fair and left, asking her not to waste money. I must find the same jacket and give it back to Eddie because I have to live up to his faith in me, thought Lorena. She searched the whole fair for the jacket but in vain. There was no jacket exactly the same. She was trapped in a really struggling situation and didn't know how to deal with the problem. Finally she decided to try her luck in another market.
Lorena was about to leave when she saw Eddie in his Nike jacket. Lorena felt desperate to explain when Eddie came forward and blamed Lorena for her irresponsibility. "Please forgive me. How regretted being so stupid to have left your jacket in the biology room!" apologized Lorena, shame-faced and self-condemned.
