三、阅读理解B
Students at Tsinghua University will have to take swimming courses. If they fail a swimming test at the beginning of their university course, they won't receive their degree until they can pass the test successfully. But students with certain physical or mental illnesses are not included.
Why does the university connect the swimming ability with degrees Liu Bo, head of the Division of Sports Science and Physical Education, explained, “As a necessary living skill, swimming is helpful in improving students' endurance(耐力). And students don't get hurt easily when doing the water sport.” Considering the ability to swim as a must for students is not something new to this university, it was also necessary in the early 20th century.
It was later dropped because of a rising number of students. Another reason is that there were not enough swimming pools. Besides Tsinghua University, Peking University and Xiamen University have also listed swimming as a compulsory course for students. A few colleges in the United States, including Cornell University, Columbia University and MIT — provide swimming classes for students, too.
However, the rule made by Tsinghua University has caused a heated discussion. Some welcomed the new rule, saying it's a necessary skill that can save lives in unexpected and dangerous situations as well as a way to stay healthy. However, some said it has nothing to do with getting a degree. It's not reasonable to ask people to be able to swim for them to graduate, especially for a lot of people who grew up in inland(内陆的) cities, learning how to swim as an adult will be difficult.
( )1.How many universities mentioned in the passage encourage their students to swim
A.2. B.3. C.5. D.6.
D
( )2.What will happen to a student of Tsinghua University if he can't pass a swimming test
A.He can ask to choose another course.
B.He will be forced to drop out of school.
C.He will not be able to receive his degree.
D.He will graduate as long as he gets good grades.
C
( )3.What does the underlined word “compulsory” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Necessary. B.Different.
C.Difficult. D.Unimportant.
A
3.根据第一段内容和第二段“Besides Tsinghua University, Peking University and Xiamen University, have also listed swimming as a compulsory course for students.”可知,游泳在清华大学是必修课,除了清华,北大和厦门大学也把游泳列为必修课,因此compulsory表示“必修的”。故选A。
( )4.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The advantages of learning to swim.
B.The effect of the rule on students.
C.Big waves made by the new rule.
D.Different requirements in different areas.
C
4.根据第三段首句“However, the rule made by Tsinghua University has caused a heated discussion.”可知,本段主要讲清华的新规则引发的热议。故选C。
( )5.What can we infer from the passage
A.A swimmer may get hurt easily in the face of heavy floods.
B.It is easy for an adult who grew up in inland cities to learn to swim.
C.All universities believe that swimming is the most important skill.
D.Students at Tsinghua University had to take swimming courses in the 1910s.

5.根据第二段“Considering the ability to swim as a must for students is not something new to this university, it was also necessary in the early 20th century.”可知,在20世纪,清华大学就要求学生必须会游泳,由此推测D项:“20世纪10年代,清华大学的学生必须参加游泳课程”正确。故选D。

In my opinion, it's very important for us to reflect the Olympics spirits in our study and daily life.First of all, when we are studying the subjects at school, we should try our best to get good grades.Besides, whatever we do, we should try to make a proper plan and stick to it until we succeed. What's more, whenever we meet with difficulty, we mustn't give up easily. We should try to make a way out, which means we should have a strong will.

Sincerely yours,
Li Hua
The Olympic spirits are really helpful for everyone to realize our dreams. So learn from the excellent competitors and carry forward the Olympics spirits.
