On the day of Rashard's seventh birthday, his father took him to a music store. His father told him he could pick out any instrument (乐器) he wanted, and he should promise to learn to play it.
▲ He was far more interested in playing video games with his friends. It was hard for him to pick one.
Rashard walked around the music store. He saw some pianos first. Though his family wasn't poor, Rashard knew it was not rich. A piano was too expensive to be his gift.
Next, he found some brass instruments (铜管乐器). Rashard was not interested in any of them, because he did not want to put his mouth on anything.
He moved on to the next room. There were many guitars. The seller took one of the guitars down and let Rashard have a try. Rashard didn't know how to play it, and his hands were too small to hold it.
Rashard moved into another room. There, he picked up a violin, and he realized it was the perfect size for his small hands!
Rashard kept his promise to his dad. He learned to play the violin, and he now continues to play it as an adult. Though Rashard has since bought nicer violins, he always remembers the first one. That gift changed his life. As his father put it, “The gift of music is better than any video game you wanted when you were seven.”

Reading has really changed me
Reading has really changed me. I love reading.
I thought reading was meaningless when I was little. I didn't like reading until my father bought me a book called One Hundred Thousand Whys at my primary school. I read it from the first page to the last page. It showed me that reading could be enjoyable. From the book, I also learned a lot about science and since then I have had the habit of reading.
This change has meant a lot to me. For one thing, reading has become a very important part of my life and for another, every book I read teaches me something new. So I will keep on reading from now on.
