文档简介

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Read the following passage and write a complete story according to the plot given.
When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail His reply: "Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith(银匠)in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night Did he get tired Have doubts Did he want to quit I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again." I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

下水作文1:
Paragraph 1:
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.Through the school’s broadcast, the winners were announced. Even though I had almost forgotten about the event, let alone the competitive nature of such a contest, the thought of seeing my name among the top writers had my heart racing. I stood by with bated breath but did not hear my name. As it began to sink in that I would receive no award, I heard my entry being called: “In Second Place, Paul Revere’s Steed by….”. I was speechless. I was to go right away to the principal’s office for the award presentation ceremony, but I stood in my spot, stunned. I could not believe my hard work had been recognized.
Paragraph 2:
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. Waiting for me was the biggest smile I have ever seen on his face. He didn’t need to say it – I could see his pride emanate from his presence. “You cannot believe how proud I am. Look at how far your writing have come. You thought you were going to fail when I first asked you to participate! Your stories are special. I hope you keep working on your writing so you can bring them to life.” Even though I did not get first place, I glowed with joy for the rest of the week. Thanks to my teacher, I discovered a joy for storytelling. Maybe I’ll see some of my stories on the shelves in bookstores someday.
下水作文2:
Paragraph 1:
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. Much to my disbelief and joy, my story claimed first place in the contest. The thought of triumphing in a writing competition had never even occurred to me, and I had never regarded myself as a skilled writer. However, this recognition cleared all the insecurities and self-doubts that I had. It was an empowering revelation that I had the capacity to convey my thoughts and emotions adeptly in a non-native language and resonate with readers.
Paragraph 2:I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. I shared the news with him, and he smiled knowingly, saying, "I always knew you had it in you. You are a truly talented writer." From that moment forward, I wholeheartedly embraced my love for writing. Over time, I earned more accolades for my writing and eventually became a novelist. Thanks to my teacher's encouragement and faith in me, I not only found my passion for writing but also nurtured it into a flourishing career.
