Open an App, place your order, and wait for your food to be delivered(递送)to your home— this is how many people eat in China these days. According to the latest data from the China Internet Network Information Center, 421 million Chinese people use online food delivery services. That’s equal to half of the total number of Internet users in China.
Which group of people is ordering food online the most Unsurprisingly, its mainly young people. A recent report that was jointly(联合)published by the China Hospitality Association and Meituan, a food delivery service, showed that 86.3 percent of the service’s users are between 20 and 34 years old. These people, who are more likely to live in small families are the major force driving the development of the food delivery industry.
Small families depend greatly on food delivery services. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Chinese families have changed in size over the past decade. For small families, cooking is relatively more time and resource-consuming(耗时耗材), so ordering food online has become more popular.
The improvement of China’s food delivery services has also attracted more customers. According to Meituan’s report, the average time it takes to make a food delivery dropped from 38 minutes in 2016 to 29 minutes in 2019. It may look a little scary, but in fact it’s just an ugly apple on sale at Intermarche, one of France’s most popular supermarkets. And some other shops are giving away out-of-date(过期) food to people in need. All of them are trying new ways to solve a serious problem: food waste(浪费).
A lot of waste comes from supermarkets. Most supermarkets sell only good-looking fruits and vegetables. They believe that people won’t buy an onion that is a watermelon size or a pear in an unusual color. So, although perfectly safe to eat, “ugly” food never appears in supermarkets.
________ Supermarkets sold ugly food at a lower price and made ads to tell people that “ugly” food is just as tasty as “good-looking” food. Many people came to buy and try them. Soon after that, the supermarkets saw not only less waste but also growing sales.
Other supermarkets are helping to cut down on waste as well. Denmark’s Wefood Supermarket sells only foods that are past their “best before” dates at lower prices. A lot of people come and enjoy shopping at half price.
Britain’s Marks & Spencer stores give away unsold food to poor people. The biggest UK supermarket Tesco, does the same. In Australia, supermarkets sell local food, as it cuts down on food waste on the road. When food does not travel very far, it also brings less pollution.

When you travel in Chengdu, never miss the wonderful face-changing at the local tea houses. How much do you know about this traditional skill Let’s learn something about it.
Face-changing is an unique skill in Sichuan Opera, one Intangible Cultural Heritage (非物质文化遗产) in Sichuan. It is also a very lively way to show the thoughts and feelings of different characters of the play.
It is widely believed that the skill of face-changing could date back to ancient times. To scare away the dangerous animals and protect themselves, the ancient people painted their faces in different colors, making themselves look scary. Later, it developed into a famous art form.
Generally speaking, there are three kinds of skills of face-changing, including wiping (擦) the face, blowing the face and pulling the face. Besides, breathing is another skill of face-changing, but few people know it.
Before performing the skill of wiping the face, the performer will first spread some special paint on the face. Then he could change the color of his face in a second by wiping it. When the actors perform the skill of blowing the face, he blows a small box full of cosmetic powders (化妆粉) which is placed on the stage. And then the powders are blown to his face, changing the color into another. The skill pulling the face is more difficult. Under the cover of the dancing movements, the actor pulls each piece of the facial makeups which is tied with a thin thread (线). The performer must do the movements carefully and very quickly. This skill master Peng Denghuai changed 14 masks in 25 seconds. This was his latest Guinness World record.

Next time you have to take an exam, you can try eating some blueberries first. Scientists have said that blueberries can improve brainpower in a short time, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Scientists from the University of Reading in England did tests with children between the ages of 10 and 12. And they divided the children into two groups. One group of children were given some blueberry juice to drink and the other group drank nothing.
Then the two groups should pay attention to arrows on a computer screen. The arrows came out on the screen very quickly, and the children had to press a key as soon as they could to tell where the arrows were pointing.
The scientists found the group that had drunk blueberry juice did better when the task became harder than the group without drinking blueberry juice, according to the tests.
