Human bodies are amazing. Let’s look at one example first.
How can you tell whether something is hot or cold You touch it. There are things in your fingers that help you to know whether something is hot or cold. They’re called nerves. You have them all over your body. Nerves react(作出反应)to things we touch and send a message to our brains, telling us how something feels.
If a knife cut your finger, how would that feel It would hurt. If you didn’t have nerves, you wouldn’t hurt, but you would still bleed(流血). You wouldn’t be able to feel it. So, why are nerves a good thing We would hurt ourselves a lot more without them.
Imagine that you’re making a snack in the kitchen. You put your hand on the cooker carelessly. After a minute or two, you notice some smoke rising in the air. Your hand is burning! If you had no nerves, you wouldn’t be able to feel the heat from the cooker. Your hand would hurt more seriously. Then you would have to go to hospital.
If we had no nerves, the weather wouldn’t make a difference to us. If it were below 40 degrees, you wouldn’t feel how cold it was. But if you went outside without protecting your body from the cold, you could get very sick or die. Nerves help us stay safe and healthy.
There are many other parts in our bodies that make us amazing.
31. Nerves send messages to people’s __________.
A. brain B. skin C. muscles D. hands
32. What would happen if you walked on broken glass without having nerves
A. Nothing would happen. B. Your feet would not bleed.
C. You would not feel hurt in your feet. D. Your body would make new nerves.

Possible version
We had a discussion on “A special memory” in the English class yesterday. The following are our special memories.
First of all, Mike will never forget his experience of winning a story-telling competition. It was a good chance for him to learn how to speak in public confidently. Next one is Kate. She went to the US as an exchange student last term. Kate made a lot of new friends there and knew more about the America culture.
As for me, the most special memory is being a volunteer in a children hospital. I told funny stories to the children there. I also taught them how to sing and dance. Now I know how to care for others and will try to do more Voluntary work to help those in need.
All of the memories are unforgettable and meaningful for us.
