Lesson 10 It’s cold.
Part One
Analysis of the Teaching Material
I. Status and function
From this lesson, the students will learn how to describe the weather. The useful expressions and words can be used to report the weather more freely and vividly. Therefore this lesson is an important portion of the teaching material. Such a topic is related to daily life, so it is helpful to raise the learning interests of students and it will also help to improve their spoken English.
II. Teaching and demands
The teaching aim is established according to the New Curriculum of Primary School English. According to teaching outline and combining the students’ situation. I make the teaching aims of this lesson as follows:
1.Knowledge objects
(1) To enable the students to understand and speak five new words and two sentence patterns: cold hot warm cool ,Is it cold Yes, it is . /No, it isn’t.
(2) To be able to describe the weather more freely.
2. Ability objects
(1) To develop the Ss’ speaking strategy.
(2) To develop the Ss’ ability of communication by learning the useful structures.
(3) To encourage the students cooperation amongst in their studies.
3.Moral objects
To arouse the students’ interest of learning English and to have them participate actively in language communication. To stimulate the students’ creativity .
III. Teaching key and difficult points
The teaching key and difficult points are based on the aims and demands. Teaching key points:
To grasp the five new words and two sentence patterns.
Teaching difficulties
1.Improve Ss’s speaking ability to describe weather more freely.
2. Develop their lateral thinking through games .
IV. Teaching aids
In order to interest the students . I’ll use Multi-media computer, Power point, cards and animal mask as my teaching aids .
Part Two.
Analysis of the students
The Ss in Grade three have learned English for only one year , and they lack some learning strategies and their vocabularies are limited. What’s more, some Ss are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes.so in the class we should focus on raising their interests of English ,encouraging them to speak English bravely and teaching them to cooperate in groups.
Part Three: Teaching Methods
According to the regulation of children’s growing of mind, in this lesson I’ll mainly use Total Physical Response method, “Task-based” teaching method ,Communicative method, Situational Teaching method(情景教学)group cooperate method

Part Five: Teaching Procedure
Step 1 warm up
(1) Greeting (2 minutes)
This step will cost 1minutes
Daily Talk
T:Class begins. Good morning, boys and girls
S: Good morning, teacher
T: OK, good. So, Mike, how are you today
S: Fine, thank you. How are you, my teacher
T: Very well, thanks . The greeting between students and teacher is very useful to build a harmonious and democratic class atmosphere.
(2)sing a song
This step will cost 2 minutes. Before my class , I’ll get the students to sing an English song "let’s go to the kindergarten .’to keep the students relax .By this, the students can be interested in it and pay their attention to our class easily and improve their ability of speaking. And also this activity can begin this lesson with exciting atmosphere.
Step 2 presentation(18 minutes)
(1)Lead-in
To introduce the new words ,I create a situation here, and draw a simple picture which you can see a little boy and many snows.so I can lead the new word cold” then lead in the topic. I say “today let’s learn the lesson 10 it’s cold.” (purpose: to lead in my topic in this class and the simple picture can increase students’ interest at the same time)
(2) vocabulary teaching
In this part, to introduce the new words ,I will mainly draw four simple pictures and actions to teach new words. When the students read new words, I ask them to read these new words with actions and expressions. Then we will play a guessing game and a searching game. The whole class will be divided into two groups to have a competition. These activities can help students learn the new words faster and arouse their interest in learning English. Total Physical Response method is used in this step. (3)Thirdly, new patterns teaching
I will take out a animal mask and ask “Is it a pig ” then the Ss can answer. Next look at my simple picture and answer my new question Is it cold Ss can answer quickly.as this way, Students should use the patterns: Is it warm/ hot/ cool Yes, it is./No, it isn’t.
(purpose: To present the new words and sentences increase students geographical knowledge at the same time)
Step 3 Practice and Consolidation (10 minutes)
In this step, for Practice and Consolidate the new words and sentences. I activate some ways.
Firstly I will let some ss to be a little teacher.
Secondly let’s chant like this. Cold cold is it cold Yes, it is.
Thirdly I create a situation here. look at the map, I love traveling. this year I plan to travel in Beijing, shanghai, Harbin and Kunming.so I want to know how is the weather in these places.
Fourth Group work. Every group choose a place to make a dialogue.
(purpose: these activities can be useful and interesting for ss to consolidate.)
Step 4.Extension (4 minutes)
1.Let ss take out the paper which have some listening exercises. then ss listen carefully and finish the jobs.
2.Weather report (purpose: to develop their creativity and listening-speaking ability) Step 5 Summary (3 minutes)
In this step, first I will ask the students what they have learnt in this class .Every student must join group discussion. After 2 minutes, a student representative will be selected from each group to answer my question and I will give comments. At last let’s see which group is the winner.
Step 6 Homework (2 minutes)
In the end, I will show the assignment that is related to this class for the students to do at home. This task can improve the students ability of communication and self-study . Part Six:
Blackboard design
My blackboard design like this on the left I show the words and the simple pictures. On the right there are new sentences. This is my design of the blackboard. All the key words and sentences are listed on the blackboard.
Part Seven:
Reflection In the process of teaching, I carry on task-based teaching method. I design tasks for the students to complete. I try to make the lesson rich, effective, and instructive. At last, I want to say to be a good English teacher is my dream, I think a teacher is not only a guide for the students, but also a friend of them.
