The little wolf, White Fang, made an enemy of the dog, Lip-Lip. Lip-Lip attacked him whenever he could. He was bigger and stronger than White Fang and always won their fights. White Fang knew that he could not win a fight against Lip-Lip. He thought that he had to do something else to teach the dog a lesson.
① One day, he was playing at a river bank when he saw Lip-Lip come. He suddenly got a good idea. He pretended to be hurt and unable to run fast. When Lip-Lip ran after him, he led Lip-Lip to the place where his mother stayed. When Lip-Lip got close to her, she turned Lip-Lip over and bit him until she let him go, but White Fang had a bigger problem.
Lip-Lip was the leader of the other dogs. They followed him and obeyed him. None of them would become friends with White Fang. Whenever he came near them, they attacked him.
② He was never allowed to play with the other dogs. This made him unhappy and angry. He often forgot how to behave well.
③ Several days later, White Fang saw a man take his mother in a small boat. He tried to follow them. He jumped into the river and swam after the boat. Another man came after White Fang in his boat. He lifted White Fang out of the water. White Fang tried to get away from the man, but the man hit him and threw him into the boat.
④ White Fang was now very angry because he wanted to be with his mother. He forgot how powerful men were, and he bit the man. The man was so angry that he beat(打) White Fang again and again. The man hurt him badly.

“Another bad day at school ” my father asked as I came into the room.
“How did you know I didn’t shut the door heavily or anything,” I replied.
Over the past two months I had either done this or thrown my backpack across the room every time I came home from school. Papa thought it was because of moving to a new house.
“I know this move has been hard on you. Leaving your friends and cousins is tough,” Papa said. “What you must remember is that, with a lot of hard work and some time, you will make new friends.”
“You don’t know how hard it is. This year my baseball team would have won the championship. They won’t even give me a chance to pitch(投球) here!”
Papa turned to me, “Things will get better. I promise you. Let me ask you: do you know why you were named David Lorenzo ”
“Yes, your name is David and Grandfather’s name is Lorenzo.”
“Very good, and what makes your grandfather so important ”
“He was the first in the family to come to this country and all that,” I answered.
“That is only partly correct. Your grandfather was a very great man. In Mexico, he had been a teacher. When he came to America, he could only get low-paid labour jobs because he didn’t speak the language. It took him two years before he spoke English well enough to be allowed to teach here, but he did it. He never complained because he knew change could be difficult. Did he tell you that ” my father asked.
I looked down at my feet, and said, “No.”
“Your grandfather taught me that if you let people see your talent, they will accept you for who you are. I want you to always remember what my father taught me, even if it takes a few years for people to see who you are,” said Papa.
All I could say was, “Okay.” Then I asked, “What should I do now ”

Italian government seeks to penalize the use of English words
Italians who use English and other foreign words in official communications could face fines of up to ?100,000 ($108,705) under new legislation introduced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party(意大利兄弟党).
Fabio Rampelli, a member of the lower chamber of deputies(众议院), introduced the legislation, which is supported by the prime minister.
While the legislation encompasses all foreign languages, it is particularly geared at “Anglomania”(英国迷) or use of English words, which the draft states “demeans and mortifies” the Italian language, adding that it is even worse because the UK is no longer part of the EU(欧盟).
The bill, which has yet to go up for parliamentary debate(议会辩论), requires anyone who holds an office in public administration(行政部门) to have “written and oral knowledge and mastery of the Italian language”. It also prohibits use of English in official documentation(文件), including “acronyms(首字母缩略词) and names” of job roles in companies operating in the country.

The first article of the legislation guarantees(保证) that even in offices that deal with non Italian-speaking foreigners, Italian must be the primary language used. The second article would make Italian “mandatory(强制的) for the promotion(推广) and use of public goods and services in the national territory(领土)”. Not doing so could garner fines between ?5,000 ($5,435) and ?100,000 ($108,705).
Under the proposed law, the Culture Ministry(文化部) would establish a committee(委员会) whose remit would include “correct use of the Italian language and its pronunciation” in schools, media, commerce(商业) and advertising.
