One of the best ways to pay for college is to find work that helps foot part of the school fee. Here are 4 types of part time jobs that provide students with extra income.
Jobs with employer scholarships
Some companies offer help paying for college through scholarship programs. Taco Bell, for instance, offers its part time employees the chance to win up to a $25,000 award through its Live Mas Scholarship. The award can be used toward vocational schools or a two or four year college. Employees must have worked for the company at least three continuous months.
Work study
For years the work study program has allowed students to earn money through part time work. Students aged between 16 and 24 who file Free Application for Student Aid maybe qualified for the program. While these jobs aren't always on campus, students in work study earn at least $7.25 per hour—the state minimum wage.
Paid internships
A paid internship (实习) can not only help students pay for college but can also open doors for full time work after graduation.According to a 2019 survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, nearly two thirds of paid interns received a job offer, while just about 44% of unpaid interns were offered a job.
On demand economy jobs
Known for its flexibility, the jobs can help students earn cash between classes. These on demand jobs include completing small jobs, making deliveries or even driving for ride booking services. Students can typically earn more through on demand work, ranging from $10 to $20 an hour.

I loved my first grade teacher. Her name was Mrs. Gross but there was nothing gross (恶劣的) about her. She had such a sweet smile and kind way about her. I wasn't sure what her age was at the time but she already looked very grand motherly. She was soft spoken and had a very gentle sense of humor. Unlike some teachers she never shouted at or criticized her students. To me it felt like having a second grandmother as my teacher. Every day, I arrived at her classroom and sat happily at my desk with a big smile on my face. Throughout all my years of school I always remembered the times I spent in her classroom the most fondly.
One such memory is still with me to this day. We were doing math problems that were printed on the chalkboard while Mrs. Gross walked through the classroom checking on our work. I finished first and lifted my head up just as Mrs. Gross walked up behind me. She looked at my work and smiled. Then she said:“This is really good work, Joe. You are a very smart boy.” As she walked on she gently touched my shoulder and I got an exciting feeling in my heart. It felt so good to be seen. It felt so good to be appreciated. From that moment on I always tried my best. I always worked hard, I always wanted to be as smart as she thought I already was.
Would I have done as good in school or in life if I hadn't had Mrs. Gross as my first grade teacher I don't think so. She awakened a desire in me to be the best person I could be. With her gentle love and encouragement I started down a wonderful path that I am still on today, Mrs. Gross showed me just how much effect one soul can have on another.

Last month, I began my own two week long digital detox. I got the inspiration from the tech writer Paul Miller, who got away from the Internet for a whole year. It was not worth mentioning as against the time Miller spent offline, but it was the longest I had gone through without almost any Internet in 13 years.
Why did I do it For a while I felt the urge to try fully disconnecting to free myself from the endless work. I wanted to take a break from it all for a couple of weeks at least to see what would happen. After all, throughout the last decade, I've been online 24 7, overreacting to my email inbox and social feed (传送) — living in a world where the line between the digital world and the real world gets a bit unclear at times.
I haven't of course forgotten that I'm CEO of a social media company. My work is built around the premise (前提) that being connected makes our lives richer, more rewarding and more efficient. Still, I'd forgotten one key lesson along the way: moderation. As more and more of my life was spent scanning social feed and checking out my inbox, I realized that I needed to step back and get a whole new perspective.
So on my winter vacation to Mexico, I took a break from being active on the Internet for the entire trip. For the whole 14 days, I ate a lot of delicious fish tacos, surfed and fixed up my cottage on the beach. I didn't write or send any emails. I didn't scan any Top 10 lists of feed. The one I did give myself was checking my email inbox occasionally—just to make sure an emergency wasn't unfolding while I was away.
What I learned from my short experiment was actually not too unlike what Miller learned. I didn't end up discovering that technology is evil. In fact, I found myself reflecting on how technology over the last few years has let me experience some of the most rewarding and eventful moments of my life.
28.Why did the author begin digital detox for two weeks
A.Because Miller recommended him to do so.
B.Because he was tired of his empty life.
C.Because he wanted to live a digital life.
D.Because he intended to experience an Internet free life.

A.to a large degree B.in an honest way
C.in an appropriate way D.to a very small degree

A.To deal with emergencies. B.For the sake of his health.
C.To find some delicious food to eat. D.To watch Top 10 lists closely.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.The author holds an objective attitude towards technology.
B.The author finds technology is harmful.
C.The author will advise digital detox completely.
D.The author will no longer use the Internet.
D
A 2017 Gallup poll reported that 43% of employed Americans had spent at least some time working remotely, and the US Census data released in 2018 reported 5.2% of US workers being based entirely at home.
Even as working from home (WFH) becomes relatively commonplace, a new form of remote work is emerging:__working from anywhere (WFA), in which employees can live and work where they choose, typically within a specific country, but in some cases, anywhere in the world with a reliable Internet connection. While many companies are just starting to consider allowing employees to work from anywhere, developed WFA programs can be found at firms such as Akamai Technologies Inc. and SAP SE.
Employees value the option to work remotely. A 2017 study even found that the average worker was willing to accept 8% less pay for the option to work from home. And with a work from anywhere policy, employers add even more value to employees by granting geographic flexibility. There is the significant difference: while a WFH employee can choose to pick the kids up from school or spend the lunch hour walking the dog, a WFA employee can do all of those and also relocate closer to aging parents or to a location with a lower cost of living.
In our experience, however, managers often worry about remote employees working less, multitasking, or mixing personal responsibilities with work. There are also concerns that allowing employees to work from anywhere could decrease communication and collaboration (合作) among co workers and might limit the informal learning that typically happens in the office.
But one 2015 study by a Chinese travel agency found that when call center employees were shifted to working from home, their productivity increased by an average of 13%, apparently due to a reduction in break time and sick days combined with a more comfortable working environment. This finding raises the question: Could employees in a work from anywhere program also benefit from similar productivity increases
32.What does the underlined word “emerging” in the second paragraph mean
A.Coming into existence. B.Getting more popular.
C.Coming to an end. D.Drawing attention.
33. Which is the advantage that WFA has over WFH
A.Picking the kids up from school.
B.Relocating closer to aging parents.
C.Spending the lunch hour walking the dog.
D.Working more effectively.
34.What did the 2015 study by a Chinese travel agency find about WFH
A.It is more relaxing. B.It is more flexible.
C.It is more productive. D.It is more stressful.
35.What is the best title of the passage
A.What's the Difference Between WFA and WFH
B.Which Do You Prefer, WFA or WFH
C.Is It Time to Let Employees Work from Anywhere
D.Who Are Suitable for WFA and WFH

How to Succeed in Science
To succeed in science, you need a lot more than luck. In my view, you have to combine intelligence with a willingness not to follow conventions when they block your forward path. Thus, these have come to be my rules for success.
__36__
That might sound proud, but the fact is that you must always turn to people who are brighter than you. It's like playing any game. Even as a child,I never wanted to play games with anyone who was as bad as I was. If you win,it gives you no pleasure. And in the game of science or life, the highest goal isn't simply to win; it's to win at something really difficult. __37__
Take risks.
To make a huge success,a scientist has to be prepared to get into deep trouble. If you are going to make a huge jump in science, you will very likely be unqualified to succeed by definition. __38__ This can be more than personally upsetting.
Never do anything that bores you.
My experience in science is that someone is always telling you to do things, and then leaves you alone. I'm not good enough to do well in something I dislike. __39__
It's very hard to succeed if you don't want to be with other scientists, because you have to go to key meetings where you spot key facts that would have escaped you. And you have to chat with your competitors, even if you find them objectionable.
So my final rule is: __40__
A.Meet challenges with great courage.
B.If you can't stand being with your real peers, get out of science.
C.Put another way,it's to go somewhere beyond your ability and come out on top.
D.Be sure you always have someone to save you from a deep mess.
E.Avoid foolish people.
F.In fact,I find it hard to do well in something I like.
G.Besides, you even have to be prepared to disbelieve your scientific heroes.

Jose was a devoted teacher for a local high school in California. Unfortunately, with the money he earned, he couldn't support his family and extended family in Mexico and rent an apartment in California at the same time. Therefore, having failed to afford the rental of even a shoebox apartment, he had no choice but to live in his old car occasionally to make ends meet until he could find another place to live.
To make matters worse, he found himself living this unfortunate lifestyle after Covid 19 swept the world when California schools closed their doors following the outbreak. This left Jose with little means for making money. So at age 77, Jose ended up living inside of his car. For about two years he was homeless. Home was his car, and his car sat in a grocery store parking lot. During daytime he drove to different locations, looking for job opportunities while he spent most of his nights at the same parking lot, which gave him a sense of belonging.
At day time, he would lean his seat all the way back, so no one would see him because he knew he wasn't supposed to be there and worried the manager of the grocery store would drive him away. He was a man of self respect and didn't want to turn to charity.
When Maggie, the manager of the grocery store did see Jose, she felt he looked familiar because she used to be in his class many years ago. She could still remember how Jose encouraged her to finish her education when she was struggling with her learning. She noticed Jose spent a considerable amount of time in his car, she suspected her teacher had fallen on hard times. She became determined to help her former teacher in his time of need. Text 10
The first American President, George Washington, worked with the city planner Pierre L'Enfant to choose the land for the new presidential home. A competition was held to find a building designer.
Nine plans were considered, and the architect James Hoban won. Construction began in 1792. The first president to live there was John Adams. He and his wife Abigail moved into the White House in 1800. During the war of 1812,British troops burned most of the inside of the White House. James Hoban helped rebuild it. Over the years, each president has made changes or additions to the building.
The White House walls are made of stone that is painted white. But the famous building has had other names over time, including the President's House and the Executive Mansion. In the early 1900s, President Theodore Roosevelt made the White House its official name.
