Bookstores are fascinating places. That's because the books on the shelves can take you away to magical lands, help you learn a foreign language, or cook a delicious meal. But when your community is too small to house a real brick bookstore, sometimes you have to make a compromise. A mobile bookstore that brings books around the country was the result. That is the case for Rita Collins, 70, who dreamed of opening a used bookstore after retiring from teaching.
A business planning class from the American Booksellers Association convinced Collins to abandon her idea that opening a bookstore in the small town where she lives, which would not be sustainable. Eureka, Montana, located just seven miles from the Canadian border, only has a population of 1,517. Collins asked her instructors about a traveling bookstore on wheels and they were skeptical. But she persevered.
Collins was inspired by Dylans Mobile Bookstore, a traveling bookstore in Wales run by Jeff Towns. She contacted Jeff for advice but she was largely on her own when it came to building her bookstore. First, she had to find a vehicle large enough to stand in. Then she had to have it refitted with shelves that would hold the books at a 15 degree angle so that they would stay in place while in transit. Collins named her bookstore St Rita's Traveling Bookstore, which has been on the road since 2015.
At first, she drove through Montana and then she made her first cross country trip in 2016. After she retired in 2017, it became a full time job all year round. Collins and her mobile bookstore have visited 30 states, stopping at festivals and events along the way. While the locations change, some things always stay the same. Collins loves meeting people and making connections. While she loves what she does, Collins doesn't think she can keep doing it. In several years, she hopes to pass her traveling bookstore onto another bibliophile who shares the same interest and will keep it on the road.
24.Why did Collins abandon opening a bookstore
A.It would cost a lot of money. B.It was not promising.
C.It would be out of date. D.It was not approved.
25.Why were the shelves designed at a 15 degree angle
A.To beautify the mobile bookstore. B.To make full use of space of the shelves.
C.To keep the bookstore's balance. D.To protect the books from falling down.
26.Which of the following can best describe Collins
A.Merciful and delightful. B.Intelligent and reasonable.
C.Determined and social. D.Generous and lovely.
27.What does the underlined word “bibliophile” in the last paragraph mean
A.A book lover. B.A publisher. C.A famous writer. D.An editor.

When we don't regularly get enough sleep on weeknights, many of us hope to repay our sleep debt by sleeping late on weekends. Scientists have previously found that a lack of sleep increases the risk of being overweight. However, it was not clear whether sleeping more on the weekend could balance the books and prevent such an increase.
A team of researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder set out to find how a weekend of recovery sleep may influence an individual's health. The study focused on 36 healthy young adults, who were divided into three groups. The first group got plenty of sleep each night for 9 nights, while the second group got just 5 hours of sleep each night for 9 nights. The third group of people slept 5 hours for 5 nights, slept as much as they wanted over the weekend, and then returned to 2 more days of limited sleep. All peoples' eating patterns, weight gain, and changes in insulin (胰岛素) sensitivity are tracked throughout.
Compared to people who slept normally, those who only slept 5 hours a night snacked more after dinner and gained an average of about 3 pounds during the study. Their bodies' sensitivity to insulin decreased by 13% over the two week period. People in the third group experienced some mild improvement during the weekend: they were less likely to snack at night during the recovery period. But those benefits died out when they returned to their weekday sleep restricted schedule. They also gained an average of about 3 pounds during the study and experienced a 27% decrease in insulin sensitivity. Furthermore, during the weekend, total sleep duration was lower in women than in men, and energy intake decreased to baseline levels in women but not in men.
The study suggests that weekend recovery sleep is not likely to be an effective measure regarding metabolic (新陈代谢) health. In the future, the research team aims to explore further whether or not catching up on sleep, including daytime napping, can completely change the damage of sleep loss, and if so, to what extent and under what conditions.
28.How did the researchers arrive at their conclusions
A.By comparing experiment data. B.By referring to previous studies.
C.By collecting people's sleep records. D.By interviewing healthy young adults.
29.What can we learn from the results of the study
A.Recovery sleep contributed to less weight gain.
B.Less food was eaten after the recovery period.
C.Sex differences were observed in recovery sleep.
D.Insulin sensitivity got higher in most of the people.
30.Which of the following is the focus of future studies
A.The effective measures against sleep loss.
B.The sleep study among various age groups.
C.The damage of sleep loss to metabolic health.
D.The specific effects of recovery sleep strategies.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Why is weekend catch up sleep important
B.Sleep debt on weekends can be paid back.
C.Why does sleep loss affect metabolic health
D.Weekend lie ins don't make up for sleep loss.

Eating too much fat contributes to the risk of stroke (中风) and other heart diseases. However, it's the type of fat, not the amount, that appears to be more important when it comes to stroke. Eating plant based fats lowers stroke risk, according to a study presentation given at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2021.
The study, which hasn't yet been proved by other researchers, found people who ate the most vegetable based fats were 12% less likely to experience a stroke compared to those who ate the least. On the other hand, people who ate the highest levels of animal based saturated (饱和) fat were 16% more likely to experience a stroke than those who ate the least fat of that kind. The findings show the type of fat and different food sources of fat are more important than the total amount of fat in preventing certain diseases including stroke.
You need fat to survive. Fats help your body absorb vitamins from foods, build cells, give you energy and keep you warm. But it's the unsaturated fats that come from vegetables, nuts and fatty fish that can lower your cholesterol (胆固醇) level and help keep you healthy. Saturated fats are generally not as healthy. They mainly come from red and processed meats.
“A proper reduction in red and processed meat consumption within a healthy eating pattern can reduce total death by 13%, heart disease death by 14%, cancer death by 11% and type 2 diabetes risk by 24%,” said Dr. Frank Hu, one of the authors of the stroke study.
Interestingly, dairy fat was not associated with a higher risk of stroke, the study found. There has been an ongoing debate among researchers as to the role of dairy. The diet guidelines for Americans call for three servings of low and no fat dairy each day.
32.What can we learn from the passage
A.The more fat you take in, the easier you'll have a stroke.
B.Eating animal based fats lowers the risk of stroke.
C.The study has been recognized by most researchers.
D.Different food sources of fat have an effect on stroke prevention.
33.How does Paragraph 2 mainly develop
A.By making comparisons. B.By analyzing causes and effects.
C.By providing examples. D.By following the order of time.
34.What is the main idea of the passage
A.The type of fat matters when it comes to stroke.
B.People should eat less red meat to keep healthy.
C.Fat plays an important role in people's life.
D.Americans need three servings of dairy per day.
35.Which section of a newspaper does the passage probably come from
A.Environment. B.Technology. C.Health. D.Travel.

What Are the Roots of Your Self Esteem
Self esteem is a person's subjective assessment of his or her worth to himself or herself. Self esteem covers various beliefs about oneself (such as “I'm a failure” and “I'm beautiful”) as well as physiological states, including sadness, joy, and shame. The more we believe that we are worthy of happiness and good things in life, the more self fulfilled we will be. When we don't believe that we are worthy of these things, our ability to enjoy them can suffer.__36__
Healthy self esteem as an adult can be a gift given in your childhood. It is a blessing that most people overlook. There are so many ways adults with high self esteem were supported as children that resulted in them having high self esteem. For instance, they were praised for what they had achieved.
__37__ They likely experienced affection and were given enough attention. It is also possible that they excelled in studies or in sports and were admired for it by peers.
__38__ As children, many of these people were criticized, yelled at, or abused in one way or another. There is also a high chance that they were given no attention by the adults who were supposed to care for them. In some cases, adults with poor self esteem were often ridiculed for their shortcomings or bullied by peers.
It is common that these adults also believe that in order to be appreciated they need to be perfect.
__39__ There are people who are obsessed with their careers or hobbies because in their mind they need to tie their worthiness to something concrete. Oftentimes, these people have to pretend to be something they are not just to get approval.
How you feel about yourself impacts how you live your life. People with high self esteem tend to have better relationships than those with low self esteem. __40__ So if you struggle to reach out for assistance, it could be rooted in your low self esteem.
A.There is also a good chance that they were spoken to respectfully.
B.When we start to doubt what's important in life, we tend to do less of it.
C.Since self esteem is connected to how we perform, it is important to work on it.
D.People with poor self esteem, on the other hand, often experienced the opposite.
E.This creates an image in their mind that without accomplishment they are worthless.
F.They face failure too, but they understand that failure or success doesn't define them.
G.High self esteem enables you to ask for help and support from the people around you when you need it.

The Leap
Once a twelve year old boy was traveling around the world by sea. His father was the captain of the ship. Now, the ship was sailing home at last. It was a pleasant day. All the passengers were on the deck (甲板).
A monkey was making funny faces at the passengers. It became funnier as more passengers came closer, enjoying its tricks. Suddenly the monkey ran towards the captain's son and took his hat. It then put the hat on its own head. Soon after that, it climbed up the tall pole with two crossbeams (横梁) that supported the sails (帆) on the ship.
Everyone laughed, but the boy was not sure whether to laugh or cry. It had come as a surprise. The monkey sat on the first crossbeam of the pole, took off the hat and began to tear it.
The hat was too important for the boy. So he shouted with extreme anger, “You terrible creature! Return my hat or you are going to pay for it.” He went after the monkey on the pole, which continued to climb higher.
“I am not going to forgive you,” the boy shouted, as he climbed higher and higher. After a while, the monkey stretched itself to its full length and hung what remained of the hat on the end of the second crossbeam. Then it climbed to the very tip of the pole and sat there, making fun of the boy.
The distance from the pole to the end of the crossbeam, where the hat was, was about two meters. To reach the hat, the boy had to let go of the pole. Everyone froze with fear when they saw the boy had stepped onto the crossbeam without support. One wrong step, and he would fall hard to the board of the ship, which would lead to death. The only solution was to jump into the water. However, the boy didn't realize the danger, as his mind was focused only on getting the hat.
