第一节
With the College Entrance Examination approaching, how to choose college majors has been a hot topic discussed among students after class in our school.
Some students think that they will put future employment and income first when choosing a college a college major, because nowadays there is fierce competition in the job market. If they can’t get employed after graduating from college, it will bring great economic pressure to their families. However, the other students are determined to combine their interests with future careers, and believe that it is the combination of interests and careers that really leads to a happy life.
In my opinion, it is better to balance the future social demands with personal interests and advantages. Only in this way can we make the right choice, which we will never regret.
第二节
Emily led Justin to an old building that looked like an abandoned cafe and told him now it was his. Puzzled, Justin gaped at Emily, gesturing toward the building. “It used to be my husband’s cafe, but he passed away and the cafe was closed,” she narrated in a voice filled with sorrow and grief, wiping her tears from cheeks. “He would be happy if he saw such a warm-hearted and hard-working boy running it,” she added, lifting her head with a warm beam. Although deeply affected by the story, Justin kindly and politely turned it down, saying that he was just doing something that didn’t worth mentioning.
Though Justin said he didn’t deserve it, Emily insisted on giving him this cafe. Grateful and ambitious, Justin decided to take over the cafe and made it thrive. Emily, who also had a keen interest in cooking, ran the business together. It was beyond everyone’s expectation that such a small shop could enjoy such a boom and was highly acclaimed by neighbors for its savory flavor and affordable price. So face the life with a heart of gold and one day you will get the reward for your kindness and generosity.昌图县第一高级中学2022一2023学年度高二月考

W: Well, I planned to go there at first, but after knowing most bands to perform there were rock bands, I changed my mind. The rock music is a little too loud for me.
M: Oh, there was really a lot of fun at the festival, though I’m a big fan of jazz. I greatly enjoyed myself.

W: Mark, have you finished your schoolwork
M: Yes. I searched about the sun bears for an hour on the Internet and have just finished writing about the species. So all my schoolwork is completed now.
W: I’m very interested in the sun bears. Could you tell me something about this species
M: Certainly. They are the smallest of the world’s eight bear species. They spend most of the time by themselves. They often play gently with each other.
W: So what do they feed on Do they love eating meat
M: Yes. They mainly live off both plants and animals. Bees and honey, termites and earthworms are the most common in their diet, as well as a variety of delicious fruits and palm oil if they can find them. Occasionally, with luck, they catch small birds and lizards.
W: Anything else
M: They can copy other sun bears’ facial expression as a form of communication. Just like gorillas. They can even make a face.
W: Really That must be very interesting. Mark, now could you tell me something about their daily movements
M: With pleasure!
Text9
W: Sam, could you review the results of the survey on leisure sports last Saturday We need to plan out our proposal for this Friday’s business meeting.
M: Sure. I’ve summarized the results in the handout, and analyzed by consumer age groups and sporting activities. The results have been compiled in the following age groups: 18 to 26, 27 to 35, 36 to 55, and 56 to 65.
W: Could you tell me the results
M: The most active group involved in sporting activities are those between 18 and 26 years old, followed by those 36 to 55 years old.
W: OK.
M: As to particular sports, people in these two groups choose jogging as their favorite recreational sport, followed by swimming and cycling.
W: Hmm. Based on what you have said, I think we should consider targeting the 18 to 26-year-old age group more in the future and expanding our factory’s athletic shoes line, particularly jogging footwear.
M: We also have to come up with a more appealing slogan aimed at this group.
W: That’s a very good idea.
M: However, when these results are compared with the survey carried out three years ago, we can see a growing trend among older consumers.
W: Right, the old are becoming more conscious and concerned about staying fit, so we should also focus on this group.
M: I quite agree with you.
W: Well, let’s meet again on Wednesday to iron out more of the details of this proposal.
Text10
Ana Reyes is a famous lawyer in America. At the age of five, she and her family moved to the United States, where she was surrounded by a strange language. In 1980, she entered Wilder Elementary School in Louisville. At school, she couldn’t understand a word. Pat Harkleroad, Ana’s first-grade teacher noticed her. She talked with Ana’s mom and arranged to have her come in each day before school for tutoring. The teacher would arrive at school an hour early every morning for a one-on-one lesson with Ana to teach her English. Thanks to her help, Ana made progress in English quickly. In American elementary schools, teachers are assigned to a certain grade. So, a year later, Ana’s teacher changed. Years later, when a friend’s young daughter read to her, it was as if Ana had been hit by something and a scene in her memory came to her mind. Ana decided to find and reconnect with her former teacher. Ana wrote a letter to the Kentucky Department of Education, which put her in contact with Pat. During their reunion they looked back on the past while Ana expressed her gratitude to her former teacher, Pat Harkleroad. She is now gray-haired. She has helped thousands of other children.
