When drama teacher Chelsie King asked students in her school to come up with a way for her husband to go around the block in his wheelchair with their newborn, they were up for the challenge.
Chelsie's husband, Jeremy, underwent brain surgery three years ago, and since then it has been difficult for him to keep his balance. “He wanted to be able to safely hold his baby, but there's just really not a ton of resources out there for disabled parents,” Chelsie said. She works at the Bullis School in Germantown, Maryland, and asked her colleague Matt Zigler, who teaches the “Making for Social Good” class, for assistance.
In this course, students learn and design products to help people. The 10 high school students were excited to come up with something that could attach to the wheelchair Jeremy uses. They spoke with the Kings about their needs, conducted research on infant (供婴儿使用的) car seats and how they are installed, and then drafted 3D models of their designs. “I really feel the students took all my concerns to heart when creating the prototypes (原型),” Jeremy said. Two projects were selected for the students to make—one that connected an infant car seat to Jeremy's wheelchair and another that attaches an entire stroller (折叠婴儿车) to the wheelchair.
When they were done making the attachments, the students put the instructions online to help even more people. A few weeks later, the Kings went out with the car seat attachment, and found it worked perfectly. The students were excited to learn that their creation was a hit. “I feel fortunate to have been able to take a class that has allowed me to truly make a difference in someone's life,” said Zlotnitsky.
24.What happened to King's husband Jeremy
A.He had a brain operation. B.He could safely hold his baby easily.
C.He got a job at school in Germantown. D.He had to make his wheelchair himself.
25.Why did high school students speak with the Kings
A.To print 3D models of their designs.
B.To help the Kings fix baby car seats.
C.To connect something to Jeremy's wheelchair.
D.To know about the Kings' practical requirements.
26.What can we know about the students from the last paragraph
A.Their design was a great success.
B.They discussed and designed two projects.
C.They were crazy about wheelchair models.
D.They taught more people to make car seats online.
27.What's Zlotnitsky's attitude towards taking “Making for Social Good” class
A.Positive. B.Doubtful. C.Objective. D.Negative.

Along the river banks of the Amazon and the Orinoco, there lives a bird that swims before it can fly, flies like a fat chicken, eats green leaves, has the stomach of a cow and has claws (爪) on its wings when young. They build their homes about 4.6m above the river, an important feature for the safety of the young. It is called the hoatzin.
In appearance, the birds of both sexes look very much alike with brown on the back and cream and red on the underside. The head is small, with a large set of feathers on the top, bright red eyes, and blue skin. Its nearest relatives are the common birds, cuckoos. Its most striking feature, though, is only found in the young.
Baby hoatzins have a claw on the leading edge of each wing and another at the end of each wing tip. Using these four claws, together with the beak (喙), they can climb about in the bushes, looking very much like primitive (远古的) birds must have done. When the young hoatzins have learned to fly, they lose their claws.
During the drier months between December and March hoatzins fly about the forest in groups of 20 to 30 birds, but in April, when the rainy season begins, they collect together in smaller living units of two to seven birds for producing purposes.
28.What is the text mainly about
A.Hoatzins in dry and rainy seasons.
B.The relatives and enemies of hoatzins.
C.Primitive birds and hoatzins of the Amazon.
D.The appearance and living habits of hoatzins.
29.Young hoatzins are different from their parents in that ________.
A.they look like young cuckoos B.they have claws on the wings
C.they eat a lot like a cow D.they live on river banks
30.What can we infer about primitive birds from the text
A.They had claws to help them climb. B.They could fly long distances.
C.They had four wings like hoatzins. D.They had a head with long feathers on the top.
31.Why do hoatzins collect together in smaller groups when the rainy season comes
A.To find more food. B.To protect themselves better.
C.To keep themselves warm. D.To produce their young.

Emotional intelligence is highly important in a teen's development. There is considerable evidence pointing to its positive role in helping students deal with stress, develop relationships, and handle the transitions (过渡) facing them.
Emotional intelligence helps us manage negative emotions and our behaviors in response to them. So, does it impact on how teens and students perform academically Some research does, in fact, suggest a relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement. In one study of education students at university, self emotion appraisal (评价) and understanding of emotion were revealed to have positive significant linkages with their academic performance on assessments.
Later studies support this finding, with Sanchez Ruiz and colleagues finding that emotional intelligence predicted academic performance better than established personality and cognitive (认知的) ability for Cyprus university students.
But what about teens specifically Interestingly, there is also cogent evidence to suggest that teens with EI are better able to make the transition from high school to higher education. Results of a study of 1,426 first year students found significantly higher interpersonal, stress management, and adaptability skills among students who were academically successful in entering university. The authors' conclusion was that emotional intelligence has a large impact on students' ability to deal with challenges such as developing new relationships and learning to live more independently, amongst other factors.
It is worth noting that while the studies above do provide evidence for some benefits of emotional intelligence skills for students, they don't necessarily indicate an academic consensus (共识). As with most areas in the field, much room for future research remains. So interpersonal and emotional management skills may play a key part in helping students better handle the challenging aspects of academic life.
32.What can be inferred from Paragraph 2
A.Emotional intelligence is only helpful to negative emotions.
B.Evidence of the function of emotional intelligence isn't enough.
C.Emotional intelligence is connected with academic performance.
D.Our behaviors can't be treated with our emotional intelligence.
33.What does the underlined word “cogent” in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Insufficient. B.Specific. C.Usual. D.Convincing.
34.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.Emotional intelligence equals academic performance
B.Much research is needed for emotional intelligence.
C.Emotional intelligence doesn't adapt to teens yet.
D.Interpersonal management counts in learning languages.
35.What's the suitable title for the text
A.Emotional Intelligence is Important for Teens
B.Emotional Intelligence Means a Lot to Us All
C.We Should Develop Our Emotional Intelligence
D.We Need Further Study on Emotional Intelligence

第二节(满分25分)

I had a problem. Talent Night was coming up, but I had no talents.
Kate can make anything using origami (折纸). Tommy creates breath taking beats on overturned plastic buckets. Olivia trains her petty dog to do tricks. And those are just my friends. My grade also boasts four dancers, a gymnast, two bakers, a yoga expert, six singers, and five artists, among others.
Every day my teacher asked if I'd decided what to do. And every day I reminded her that I had no talents.
“Nonsense, Benjamin,” she said. “You'll think of something.”
“I'll just have to be sick the day of the show,” I announced to my friends one afternoon. “If you get a cold, be sure to cough on me.”
“You must have a talent,” said Kate. “Let's make a list. What are you good at?”
“Eating,” I answered.“Watching TV.”
Kate rolled her eyes. “Benjamin, be serious.”
“Tormenting (捉弄) my little brother.”
“Are you kidding me?” Kate looked at our friends. “Come on, guys. What are Benjamin's talents?”
“He's good with dogs,” said Olivia. “My dog adores him.”
“Oh, great,” I said. “I can sit on the stage while he licks my face. Benjamin Belinski, Human Dog Toy.”
“Benjamin's funny and humorous,” said Tommy. He turned to me. “You could do a comedy routine.”
“Yeah. Every joke could be about how I have no talents,” I said.
“Benjamin,” said Kate, “maybe you don't know how to juggle (变戏法), but your birthday parties are the best.”
“Yeah,” agreed Olivia, “and you always get us together to do stuff. Like having game nights or riding bikes after school—or when we held that yard sale. The week you had the flu we didn't do anything fun.”
“You're like the glue that holds us together,” added Tommy.
“Oh, great,” I said. “Benjamin Belinski, Human Glue Gun.”
But their comments got me thinking. Lying in bed that night, I came up with a plan so exciting that it took me two hours to fall asleep.

Text 10
Harry came to his mother one morning while she was having her breakfast, and said to her, “No one at my school likes me, Mother. The teachers don't, and the children don't. Even the cleaners and the bus drivers hate me.”
“Well, Harry,” his mother answered, “Perhaps you aren't very nice to them. If a few people don't like a person, he or she may not be responsible for that. But if a lot of people don't, there is usually something wrong, and that person really needs to change.”
“I'm too old to change,” Harry said, “I don't want to go to school.”
“Don't be silly, Harry,” his mother said, going to the garage to get the car out. “You have to go. You're quite well, and you still have a lot of things to learn. And besides that you're headmaster of the school.”
