第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Covering an area of 972,000 square kilometers, Greenland National Park is one of the largest parks in the world, including both the highest parts of the Northern Hemisphere's largest ice cap and the world's northernmost land area.
For thousands of years, various Inuit (因纽特人的) cultures have lived and survived here thanks to the Arctic species of animals. Today, the hunters from Ittoqqortoormiit are the only ones who have regular access to the area. They go on dogsled (狗拉雪橇) trips and hunt in the National Park. The only people who live in the vast area are a total of about 40 people in five settlements.
·The Sirius Patrol has its main base at Daneborg in Northeast Greenland. The Patrol is responsible for monitoring the area by dogsled. They also have to control exploration and protection rules in the National Park.
·Mestersvig is hiring people, and especially in summer, there is a lively activity in the old mining (采矿) town.
·The weather stations at Station North and in Denmark's Harbour are also staffed. The main task of the staff in Denmark's Harbour is to launch a weather balloon twice a day with measuring instruments.
·Zackenberg Research Station is about 450 kilometers north of Ittoqqortoormiit. Research is conducted here into the effects of climate change. The station is located in a high Arctic climate area that reacts earlier than other areas to changes in global weather.
Each year the National Park is the goal for a growing number of scientific explorers. Many also come to explore the tracks of ancient Inuit settlements.
21.Which of the following best describes the Greenland National Park
A.Species poor. B.Extremely cold. C.Easily accessible. D.Highly developed.
22.Where do people probably go for the protection of the National Park
A.Daneborg. B.Mestersvig.
C.Station North. D.Denmark's Harbour .
23.What is the main task of Zackenberg Research Station
A.Studying climate change. B.Predicting local weather.
C.Exploring ancient settlements. D.Controlling scientific explorations.

Sunny Goyal and Unnati Mittal went on a trip to the Amarkantak Hills where they noticed a lot of plastic waste lying around destroying the beauty of the place. They saw animals consuming that plastic and tourists throwing away more single use plastic, and learned that the locals also burn plastic waste along with wood to keep themselves warm. The amount of environmental pollution shocked the two students. Returning to their campus, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in Indore, they realized the problem was everywhere. “We saw our friends and other students throwing single use plastic away wherever they liked, even when thrown in garbage bins, none of it had been treated properly. And all of it ended up in landfills (垃圾填埋场). We decided to do something about this,” Sunny says.
And this is how Plament was born. Plament is a start up that develops a unique material from plastic waste that can be then used to build eco friendly furniture (家具) and items for indoor decoration. The material that these students have created is 100 per cent recycled and made out of plastic waste. “We were business students and didn't know much about the entire process. Our teachers at NMIMS helped us understand and also provided us with access to the labs. We made our first sample (样品) at our campus and within a few months of experimentation, we developed the material from plastic waste,” explains Unnati.
Adding to that, Sunny says,“We collected different types of plastic waste, and each one has different melting temperature. We had to figure out what kind of plastic or plastic waste would be suitable to create furniture, after that it went through several processes like compression (压缩) and chemical treatment. The material created is finally heat proof and water resistant and scratch proof(防划伤的). The furniture made from this is lower in cost than wooden furniture and what other plastic competitor brands offer. And it is not as harmful as regular plastic.”
24.What does Paragraph 1 mainly talk about
A.The experience of a trip full of waste. B.The motivation for establishing Plament.
C.The pollution that needs to be dealt with. D.The reason why Sunny and Unnati got shocked.
25.What did the students do first to develop the material from plastic waste
A.They consulted with the teachers.
B.They did months of trials in the labs.
C.They invited other students to join them.
D.They collected as much plastic waste as they could.
26.What helped the students figure out suitable plastic for creating furniture
A.Assessing the cost.
B.Testing the chemicals.
C.Identifying the melting temperature.
D.Comparing different plastic materials with wood.
27.How does Sunny feel about the future of the furniture made from the new material
A.Worried. B.Uncertain. C.Optimistic. D.Unconcerned.

When a leafy plant is under attack, it doesn't sit quietly. Back in 1983, two scientists, Jack Schultz and Ian Baldwin, reported that young maple trees getting bitten by insects send out a particular smell that neighboring plants can get. These chemicals come from the injured parts of the plant and seem to be an alarm. What the plants pump through the air is a mixture of chemicals known as volatile organic compounds, VOCs for short.
Scientists have found that all kinds of plants give out VOCs when being attacked .It's a plant's way of crying out. But is anyone listening Apparently. Because we can watch the neighbours react.
Some plants pump out smelly chemicals to keep insects away. But others do double duty. They pump out perfumes designed to attract different insects who are natural enemies to the attackers. Once they arrive,the__tables__are__turned. The attacker who was lunching now becomes lunch.
In study after study, it appears that these chemical conversations help the neighbors .The damage is usually more serious on the first plant, but the neighbors, relatively speaking, stay safer because they heard the alarm and knew what to do.
Does this mean that plants talk to each other Scientists don't know. Maybe the first plant just made a cry of pain or was sending a message to its own branches, and so, in effect, was talking to itself. Perhaps the neighbors just happened to “overhear” the cry. So information was exchanged, but it wasn't a true, intentional back and forth. Charles Darwin, over 150 years ago, imagined a world far busier, noisier and more intimate (亲密的) than the world we can see and hear. Our senses are weak. There's a whole lot going on.
28.What does a plant do when it is under attack
A.It makes noises. B.It gets help from other plants.
C.It stands quietly. D.It sends out certain chemicals.
29.What does the author mean by “the tables are turned” in Paragraph 3
A.The attackers get attacked. B.The insects gather under the table.
C.The plants get ready to fight back. D.The perfumes attract natural enemies.
30.Scientists find from their studies that plants can ________.
A.predict natural disasters B.protect themselves against insects
C.talk to one another intentionally D.help their neighbors when necessary
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.The world is changing faster than ever.
B.People have stronger senses than before.
C.The world is more complex than it seems.
D.People in Darwin's time were imaginative.
D
The number of birds coming through your neighborhood is changing, and so is the timing of their migrations (迁徙). Birdwatchers noticing these differences are playing a big part in understanding how climate change and severe weather events are affecting bird population.
John Rowden is director of community conservation at the National Audubon Society, which aims to protect birds and their environment. He said, “Birdwatchers have to be much more alert (警觉的) to when birds are coming through than they used to be, since birds may be coming through much earlier or much later.”
Rowden said, “Birdwatchers are increasingly seeing birds in their areas that are usually found elsewhere. And they are seeing fewer of the birds that usually travel through. Although we have seen these birds, it doesn't mean they'll always be there. They are declining in numbers because we're throwing so many things at them, so we need to do what we can to help them.”
“At least 314 species of American birds are expected to lose 50 percent or more of their range by the end of the century. Those species are listed by the Audubon Society as climate threatened or endangered,” Rowden added.
Environmentalists say there are a few easy steps people can take to help struggling bird populations. These include planting native species, which leads to more native insects for the birds to eat. During spring and fall migration seasons, people can help migrating birds by keeping outdoor lights turned off and covering reflective surfaces like large windows. People also should make indoor plants less visible to passing birds.
Geoff LeBaron, director of the Christmas Bird Count at the National Audubon Society, says he has seen the effects of climate change firsthand. “I've been a birdwatcher since I was a little kid,” he said. “It's clear that climate change is affecting and will continue to affect birds on a global scale, and it's a question of whether or not they can adapt to what the climate is throwing at them.”
32.What do the birdwatchers find
A.Local birds are increasing in their areas.
B.50 percent of American birds have disappeared.
C.Climate change affects animal population greatly.
D.The number and timing of migrating birds are changing.
33.Why do the birdwatchers have to be more alert
A.To deal with climate change. B.To do research on bird population.
C.To watch the migrating birds in time. D.To help birds migrate successfully.
34.Which paragraph mainly focuses on the ways to help the birds
A.Paragraph 5. B.Paragraph 4. C.Paragraph 3. D.Paragraph 2.
35.What does Geoff LeBaron think of the birds' situation
A.It's hopeless. B.It's normal. C.It's worrying. D.It's promising.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Brutus had everything in the world: good food, good toys, and good clothes. But the problem was that he had to share them all with his three other brothers, Mack, Jack and Robert.
Brutus had to share his favorite cookie box with Mack, who always finished the whole box before Brutus could take a bite. He also had to share his toys with his youngest brother Jack, who always ended up breaking them. Brutus also had the unfortunate privilege of being given his older brother Robert's hand me downs of old clothes.
Brutus hated sharing and wished he had nobody to share his belongings with. “Why can't I be the only child?” Brutus sighed as he stared at the stars. “I wish I had no stupid brothers,” Brutus demanded at one sparkling star.
To his surprise, the star suddenly twinkled and fell towards his direction. The star inched closer and closer to his bedroom window. He screamed and tried to wake his brothers up but it was too late. The star crashed inside their room, followed by an ear splitting explosion.
The next day, Brutus woke up with a bad headache. He rushed to his brothers' beds to ask them if they were okay but was quickly shocked to see that their beds had been empty. They were nowhere to be found.
Brutus had the fortune of spending the whole morning playing with his toys. He put on his brother's brand new clothes and sneakers which fit him perfectly. As he was checking himself in the mirror, he suddenly realized that his wish had come true. His brothers were gone and he had the whole world to himself.
“I can get used to this,” he said to himself happily.

Text 10
A jellyfish is a soft creature that swims slowly through water. They don't have bones, brains, eyes, ears, and hearts like true fish. However, jellyfish do well without these body parts. They live in every ocean in the world. There are hundreds of kinds of jellyfish. The number of jellyfish keeps increasing.
Jellyfish also need oxygen to live. Their skin is so thin that oxygen can pass through it and enter their bodies. If you ever see a jellyfish, look at it carefully. You can even see its stomach through the skin.
All animals must protect themselves against danger. And when a jellyfish touches an animal or person, it gives off poison. If you go swimming in the ocean, watch out for jellyfish, get out of the water if you see them. If you see a jellyfish on the sand, don't pick it up.
Sometimes, hundreds of jellyfish appear at once. These large groups are called “swarms” or “blooms”. Recently a “swarm” of jellyfish covered one end of the Gulf of Mexico.
Why are there more jellyfish now than in the past There are two possible reasons.First, adult fish and jellyfish eat much of the same food. In some places, too many adult fish have been caught by humans. This leaves more food for jellyfish. Second, farmers use fertilizer on their fields. When it rains, some fertilizer gets washed into rivers. It flows into the oceans. There, more plants grow and the oxygen in the water is reduced in the water. Jellyfish can live on less oxygen than fish.

How to Protect the Environment
As we all know, June 5 is the World Environment Day. As high school students, we should contribute to environmental protection.
At present, tail gas pollution is very serious, and we'd better take public transport or ride a bike instead of driving. In addition, plastic pollution is also severe, and what we can help is to avoid buying plastic bottled water. Finally, many places lack water. Therefore, when we don't use tap water, we should turn off the tap immediately.
Take action now and we will have a great impact on the environment!

Mom told him that his brothers had gone to visit his grandparents with his dad. Thinking that he could enjoy all the cookies alone, Brutus was wild with joy. With mouth watering, Brutus wolfed down four cookies before he felt too full to have more. Every day Brutus enjoyed playing toys, having delicious food and wearing new clothes without his brothers bothering.
