What would life be like if you were a rocker, a soccer player, a professor who teaches at Stanford University, and a Nobel Prize winner Carolyn Bertozzi from the US lives such a cool life!
Bertozzi, born in 1966, shares this year's Nobel Prize in chemistry with two other scientists. She has won the prize because she has found a smart way to connect cells(细胞) by connecting their sugar coats. Although she has achieved a lot in science, Bertozzi was not interested in science until her second year at Harvard University. “The professors made the class very difficult,” she told Chemistry World magazine. “My classmates complained a lot. Apart from doing research, Bertozzi has lived a colorful life. She was in a rock band. “I even used to think about being a student studying music,” she said. She also played soccer, and won a sports scholarship (体育奖学金) from Harvard.
As a female scientist, Bertozzi always tries to speak for women. She believes that women can also contribute to the development of science and work hard for it. She even got an award for this in 2021. “In the late 1980s, maybe 90% of the students were men,” Bertozzi said. “There were maybe just one or two women in a lab, so I tried to support each other by starting a monthly sharing meeting for all the women students in the department.”

It was a clear sunny day. Mary skipped all the way to the secret garden wall. At this moment, the robin flew towards Mary and landed at her feet. Mary was pleased to see him, then she stopped skipping and spoke to him.

Do you know how to cook, clean or grow vegetables Do you know the skills of raising chickens or fixing the washing machine in your home If not, don't worry because Chinese primary and middle school students will learn to do these soon.
A new standard (标准) for labor( 劳动) education has recently came out. Students in primary and middle school will have at least one class a week to experience different kinds of labor so as to learn different life skills and even job skills.
In order to develop students' all-around abilities, students from different grades are asked to complete various tasks(任务), from cooking to growing vegetables, and from school labor classes to community volunteer services. For example, students from Grade 3 and Grade 4 will learn how to wash their own clothes, help clean the classroom and even try planting vegetables. Fifth- and sixth-graders will learn to cook two or three common dishes and plant at least two kinds of vegetables. As for middle school students, in addition to cooking meals on their own, they also need to learn fixing some machines, do some voluntary work in the community and even make one or two traditional handicrafts. These courses make teachers and students quiet interested.
This move can greatly enrich Chinese students' life and hopefully build their character through pared to students from the US, Chinese students haven't paid enough attention to the courses which require hands-on ability. According to a 2019 report, Chinese kids only do 12 minutes of practical activity each day, while US kids do 1.2 hours each day, China Daily reported.
