Analysis of teaching material What:This is a daily conversation about the places that Grace, Kevin and Julie visited and what they did on vacations. Why: It helps students learn how to talk about their vacation using simple past tense and promote their love for life. How: It uses basic sentences including “ Where did... go on vacation ” “She/He went to...” “Did you... ” “Yes/No,...” to talk about vacations. The words, such as “wonderful” and “interesting” are used to express how speakers feel.
Teaching objectives By the end of the session, most students will be able to talk about their vacations with simple past tense. This will be achieved by: 1.grasp the information about the speakers’ vacation, including places, activities and feelings. (learning and understanding) 2. apply the key sentences “ Where did... go on vacation ” ,“She/He went to...” ,“Did you... ” ,“Yes/No,...” to practice the conversation. (applying and practising) 3.create a new dialogue about their own vacations and establish their positive attitudes towards life. (transferring and creating)
Teaching focus master the key expressions about vacations, such as “wonderful” , “interesting”, “ Where did... go on vacation ”, “Did you... ”,etc. learn the simple past tense to talk about past events.
Anticipated difficulties Students may feel it difficult to use the simple past forms properly.
Teaching procedure Objective 1:grasp the information about the speakers’ vacation, including places, activities and feelings. Step 1 Lead-in Show pictures of different activities during the vacation and invite students to share where they went on vacation. Look at the pictures in 1a and describe the vacation activities in the picture. Step 2 Predict Look at the picture in 2a and predict where the girl in a yellow T-shirt was. Listen again and check Yes, I did or No, I didn’t for each question. Step 4 Listen and find Guide students to find out the indefinite pronoun in the table and pay attention to the position of the adjective. Explain the function of the indefinite pronoun. Step 7 Role play Use the sentences and structure we have learned to create a new dialogue about students’ own vacations and share it with class. Justifications: Step 1:to arouse students’ interest and elicit the topic. Step 2:to create listening expectation and train students’ ability to predict. Step 3:to grasp the information of the listening material. Step 4:To impart the knowledge of the indefinite pronoun under the context. Step 5:to act as a scaffolding to support the students’ output. Step 6:to apply what they have learned into practice. Step 7:to evaluate students’ performance and whether the teaching objects have achieved.
Homework Must do : read the listening material three times. review the key words and sentences we have learned in the class. Optional: do a survey about your friend’s vacation and share the results of your survey with classmates.

Reflection This class is carefully designed to meet teaching objectives.
